Chapter 1116: Still a no?

"Do you still think she’s innocent, Mr. Wu? A woman who committed all crimes you can think of that could break a world record is innocent?"

This was not true, was what Leo wanted to say. However, he knew there could be some truth in it. Even so, he didn’t want to accept them just as it was. People could just have rigged the list to make her look bad.

"There must be a reason," he murmured, nodding to himself. He forced a smile as he looked up at Dominic. "I lived with her. She’s like a puppet. I’m sure Dragon is simply using her and her face as his front. It makes sense! Now, the authorities are after her instead of him!"

The more he rationalized it, the more desperate he appeared. Yet, he seemed to have believed it.

"Minister Zhu." Leo put down the tablet, looking at him straight in the eye. He patted his chest as he spoke. "Please. Believe me. They’re just using Hera. She didn’t do all of this and even if she did, they were all against her will!"

"Against her will, you say?" Dominic’s eyes drooped, realizing Leo was much more stubborn than he thought. No wonder his wife had to slap this guy back then. He could be too persistent.

"Check the next page," said Dominic. "That profile hasn’t been updated yet. It would’ve been longer if it was."

"What?"

"Turn to the next page," he repeated, jerking his chin in the tablet’s direction. "Everything you see in there were all recent reports after you were rescued. If you are so convinced she’s innocent, then go ahead and see for yourself."

Leo’s hand shook under Dominic’s cold and distant gaze.

"You don’t want to?" Dominic provoked. "Why? Scared that what you’d see next might just prove my point? And shred yours to nothing but powder?"

"That’s not it."

"Then, look."

Leo clenched his teeth, convincing himself Dominic was simply trying to stop him. After all, he had been bugging Dominic. At first, he listened. But after that, Dominic just avoided him. Therefore, Leo came all the way here when he heard about the private press conference.

Leo took another deep breath, following Dominic’s instructions to check the next page. The very first thing that came up was an aerial photo of what seemed to be a port. It looked destroyed, as if the place had just survived a natural calamity.

Swiping next, he instantly froze, not expecting a gore close-up of a dead body. He even forgot how to breathe for the next three seconds.

"Don’t stop," Dominic remarked. "Keep going."

Leo gulped, glancing at Dominic before moving on. He swiped once more, almost wincing at more photos of bodies. And then he swiped again and again and again. The photos were either dead people or some more under the container. There were even photos of the authorities standing next to a container with some feet sticking out underneath it. The photo after that was when the container was lifted, showing the crushed and flat upper bodies of those people.

"I can’t —" Leo gagged, putting the tablet away while covering his mouth. "No more — I can’t."

He could stomach the first photo he saw, but the more he swiped, the more it turned his stomach. That was not a result of a natural disaster. If anything, it was a massacre. Leo was only human with a slightly privilege line of work. He had seen people playing dead or ghosts in films, but not a real massacre.

"I..." Leo recklessly reached for the door handle, pulling it open. As soon as he pushed the door open, he moved his head out and threw up.

Meanwhile, Dominic sighed as he watched the man throw up. Any person with a conscience would also find those confidential photos sickening. It was cruel, and one just could imagine the horror of being in that place.

"That massacre." Dominic broke the silence with his cold baritone. "Is led by Hera Cruel herself."

Leo froze, wiping the corner of his mouth with the back of his hand. He slowly pushed himself to sit up, facing Dominic with denial burning in his eyes.

"If you still don’t believe me, keep swiping. You’d see her there."

"No." Leo shook his head. "That’s not true."

Dominic sighed once more and picked up the tablet. He tapped on it a couple of times before flipping it, showing Leo a clear photo of Hera, which was recently taken.

"That’s her, Leo." Dominic pointed at the screen. "She’s fine and obviously, she doesn’t need your help."

Leo held his breath as his eyes shook. "No."

Dominic swiped the photo, and this time, it was the video version where the photo was taken.

"This one?" he breathed. "Still a no?"

Leo pressed his lips and stared at the video, watching the short clip. The video seemed to be taken via CCTV. Yet, it was clear. In the security footage, Hera seemed to be heading out of the back of the building. There were a few masked men with her, armed with deadly weapons.

She talked to them for a few seconds before she opened her palms. The man standing next to her then handed her a pistol. As she wrapped her fingers around it, she slowly lifted her eyes and straight to the CCTV camera. The corner of her lips curled up into a devious smirk, raising the pistol in its direction, and then the video was cut off.

Leo’s heart sank, his body also dropping. Slowly, he raised his helpless eyes to meet Dominic’s eyes.

"Are you still going to deny it?" he asked, but Leo didn’t answer. "You should know by now how to embrace the truth. After all, you fell for that once with Paula. It almost cost you your friendship with my wife and your career because I would’ve destroyed you if not for her. Truths are always ugly and painful, but they are the truths. Comforting yourself with a lie and denying it isn’t gonna help."

How could he deny it? There was not a shadow of a doubt it was Hera. The height, the physique, the face. He could argue that it was edited, but then, that look in her eyes couldn’t be faked. It was as though when she smirked, she was taunting whoever would see the clip.

"That is Hera Cruel," Dominic asserted. "And everything about her isn’t an exaggeration. There’s a reason she was kept in that place and was put through such pain. I’m not saying she deserved it, but it’s the only option those people who got her had."

"Because if they didn’t try to control her..." Dominic slowly put down the tablet on his lap. "... no one else can."

Leo let out a weak laugh. "Are you saying the Hera I know... is just an act?"

"No."

"What?"

"If you want to confirm if the person you met in there is real or not, why not ask her yourself?" Dominic arched a brow while Leo furrowed his brows. "If you have the guts and if you truly believe she’s good, then I’ll tell you the address where that Hera lived."

Dominic tilted his head a little to the side. "Do you want it?"
