Chapter 1109: Sentiments
Chapter 1109: Sentiments
Meanwhile...
Heaven took a deep breath, standing in front of the door where she lived before her life spiraled out of control. She pulled up the lid of the passcode lock, putting in the combination of her place. But when she grabbed the knob, she froze.
[If you want to go home tonight, I left your keys to your nurse.]
Heaven closed her eyes and took another deep breath, recalling Dominic’s parting remarks. She didn’t know Dominic kept the very first thing she bought with her own hard-earned money.
He would’ve surely told her if only she asked back then.
A bitter laugh slipped past her lips, biting her lips as tears formed in the corner of her eyes. When she took another deep breath, she finally mustered the courage to open the door. As soon as she did, the dim lights automatically switched on.
Her lips fell a little, dragging her way into the entryway. Standing in the living area, she looked around. Tears pooled in the corner of her eyes as her lips quivered. Many different emotions swirled in her heart as she looked at the place, which was perfectly maintained. Framed posters of herself still hung on the wall and her trophies from when she won her biggest award and all the little trophies for other contests were displayed on the large stand.
The place was just like how she left it.
Every decoration, the interior design, and everything was still in the same place as if she was suddenly taken six years back. Not only Dominic bought it, but he also maintained it just the way she left it.
Heaven covered her mouth with her hand, muffling her cries.
All these years, she hated him.
She blamed him for everything, seeing him as the person who took away everything from her. But... surely, she was wrong. Dominic didn’t steal anything from her, but it was Heaven, herself, who robbed herself of the time, the happiness, the freedom.
The person who punished her was herself.
"Why am I so pathetic?" she whimpered, burying her face in her palms. "I already knew he wasn’t as bad as I thought he was thanks to Hera, but..."
One thing that Hera didn’t know while living in her body was these little things Dominic did for the real Heaven Liu. Though she was certain Dominic didn’t hide it from Hera. It was just that Hera and Dominic were too busy fixing the marriage and loving each other that this place was never brought up.
Hence the surprise when he mentioned it during his last visit.
"Gosh," she cleared her throat, wiping her tears. Heaven looked up and forced a smile, still tearing up despite mentally convincing herself to be okay.
Heaven picked up her bag and placed it on the coffee table. She toured her own place just to check, smiling and wiping her tears because even the small dent in the corner was kept. She knew that dent. After all, she once thought of fixing it herself.
After checking the other areas of the place, Heaven found herself standing by the door of the master’s bedroom. Her eyes softened as soon as she switched on the light. She pressed her lips into a thin line, seeing a mirage of herself lying on the bed, crying and hugging her father’s photo.
Her breathing grew slower, staring at her mirage. She swallowed down the rising tension in her throat, marching inside. For some reason, her bathroom door was left open. When she turned, Heaven saw herself again. This time, she was standing in front of the sink, holding a pregnancy test.
Looking at her right, she found another of herself in the corner. She was hugging her knees, the pregnancy tests a palm length away from her feet. And then, when she moved her gaze again, she saw herself sitting at the study table while staring at the medication she bought illegally. Heaven balled her hands into a tight fist, looking back at the bed. This time, she saw herself sitting on the edge of the bed with a few documents piled beside her.
’I...’Heaven smiled bitterly, realizing one thing after another.
Along with the sentimental memories of coming home to the place that reminded her of her success, the memories of her downfall also came along. Back then, she believed this place would witness her continuous success. This was where she started dreaming big and knowing she would achieve them. But this place, these same walls, also bore witness to her cries, her pain, her fear, and her fall from grace.
Tears continued to stream down her cheeks as the several mirages of herself slowly disappeared. Back then, during those times, she blamed everything on someone else. But now, she could see it clearly. Heaven pressed her lips as she suddenly felt a presence behind her.
"I could’ve done it better," she muttered, forcing a smile through her tears. "I can’t believe that in this very place, I... tried to kill an innocent child."
"Sis..." Axel called worriedly, taking a step inside the bedroom.
The corner of his eyes were red, and he seemed exhausted. He had been from the hospital, but he was told that she had been discharged. Hence, he had to use his connection to know where she went. Much to his surprise, his intel told him she went back to her own place. So, without wasting a breath, he rushed in here. When he arrived, the door was left ajar. He got in, thinking something might’ve happened.
Heaven bit her lower lips, gazing at the study desk bitterly. "I hate your brother for barging in that night. But now, I’m glad he did. If not, I would’ve hated myself more and I don’t think I would ever forgive myself."
"I used to hate you too," she trailed off, turning around to face Axel. "Do you know? I saw you as a nonsense, spoiled bully who hates me for no reason. I’ve always thought you existed just to make my life miserable. But thinking about it, I would’ve hated myself too."
"Even so, I was glad you hated me," she added with a short smile. "Because if you didn’t make me miserable or didn’t make me angry, I wouldn’t have even the smallest reason to live. Your brother’s kindness pushed me to the edge, but your hate made me cling to the cliff. It somehow made me want to live another day just because I don’t want you to win."
"So, thank you for hating me..." she continued, nodding at him slightly. "... and loving me twice as much. And I’m sorry for everything."
