Chapter 1102: Paula and Andrea’s proxy
"Revealing it before her permission won’t be, either. My information is solely for the cause of my misery. What she’s going to do with it, I don’t care. But I don’t trust any of you."
The corner of Wolf’s lips curved down, displeased at Joker’s remarks.
"You’re doubting me?" asked Wolf in disbelief. "You think I will betray her?"
"I said in general." Joker hummed, leaning back comfortably. "You work for her, and I work for her. We’re not friends. I lost a part of me that no one can ever give back. I’m not losing more than I already have just because I held on to the possibility none of you will betray her."
Slowly, Joker’s tone lowered, but it sounded more assertive. "Learnt that the hard way."
"You learned that lesson because of your loyalty," Wolf argued. "You chose to stay and save her."
"And by doing so, I disobeyed her orders. I went against her words." Joker cast him a look. "If Hera and Heaven didn’t switch bodies, she would’ve been dead, anyway. And so am I. I don’t want her to keep me just because of her fragile and seasonal conscience. She almost died, thinking she killed me."
"You look at her as if she’s that... considerate. She’s not like that."
"Maybe she isn’t, but what I do know is that the first thing she did the moment she woke up in her original body was to look for me," Joker stressed. "If that is not her conscience and worry, I don’t know what to call this."
Joker paused upon saying his piece, taking a deep breath. "Don’t be upset, Wolf. This is not new for us. Everyone in the Reapers isn’t friends; we were all each other’s competition who worked for the same person. To me, it’s much better that way."
Wolf wanted to argue with Joker and correct him. However, he couldn’t. Because in the first place, Joker rarely came down to the headquarters and chatted with anyone. He was usually somewhere, attending meetings and even assisting missions from afar. Not to mention, he would often talk to Hera and not anyone else.
Wolf might be wrong since he had been out on a mission for years.
"Someone has to be suspicious of everything. That might save us in the future and I’m also sure there’s no harm in being extra cautious," Joker added, running his fingers on the keyboard to check the whereabouts of Hera’s group. "She doesn’t have to be that person, though. It’s more like a personal oath. As long as she’s alive, there’s no reason for me to end mine just because I can’t accept that I lost my fingers so pathetically."
Joker threw his hand and stretched them as soon as he located them. "Oh? They’re here. She’ll probably kick the door any minute now."
"You didn’t lose your fingers pathetically," Wolf remarked, peeling his eyes from Joker. "What you did back there... I’m sure no one sees it as a pathetic sacrifice other than yourself."
"I know, which is why it’s pathetic." Joker smiled. "Because, for me, everyone’s opinion doesn’t matter, except mine. So if I say it’s pathetic, then there’s nothing else you can say to change my mind."
The second those words rolled out of Joker’s tongue, the door suddenly flew open. Both of them instinctively turned their heads to the door, only to furrow their brows upon seeing Moose coming in.
"How’s everything here?" Moose greeted as he leisurely marched inside the room. "It must be nice being in here while people out there are dying."
"Where’s Hera?" asked Joker, seeing that no one else was there behind Moose.
Moose rolled his eyes and threw himself on the couch. "I’m okay, Joker. Thank you for asking."
"Seeing that you’re not frantic, I assume she’s not dead," Wolf pointed out. "Did she run off somewhere?"
"She went to see her little take homes," Moose explained. "Not the one we took home today, but those guys she dragged from Dimitri’s base."
Deep lines appeared between Joker’s and Wolf’s foreheads. Hearing Moose’s remarks, they immediately thought of those two people Hera took home for no reason and locked up somewhere in the base. She didn’t torture them or mentally abuse them to get information. Hera simply locked them, telling them they would be her future besties.
"I’m going to see her," Wolf announced as he pushed himself up. "Bear had a message for her."
"Go ahead." Moose shrugged, making Wolf stop in his tracks.
Wolf looked back at Moose, eyes narrowed. "Is she okay?"
"She is — aside from a broken heart, she’s fine." Moose nodded. "It’s just that you might want to know she’s planning to rob Dominic."
"That’s her money," Joker commented. "It’s about time to decide on how to deal with our lack of funds."
Wolf ran his tongue across his inner cheek but didn’t refute anything. "Moose, tell the guys Dominic was attacked in case this will change her mind on our next course of action."

Somewhere in the mansion...
Romnick and another of Dane’s lackeys squinted their eyes when the light suddenly penetrated the dark room through the door. Peeking through their one eye, they caught Hera stepping in. She left the door ajar, making them see her sit down in the corner near it.
Ever since she threw them in this room with no windows or anything, the two of them hadn’t seen a light. They weren’t tortured and were actually fed well, but not seeing any faint light anywhere hurt their eyes with the sudden change.
"What are you doing here?" keeping his eyes narrowed, Romnick slowly shifted his eyes to where Hera was. "Are you going to torture us now?"
"If I want to torture you guys, you would’ve been in the infirmary by now," Hera remarked lazily. "Just be quiet."
The other lackey gulped. "Why did you take us here? What do you actually want from us?"
Hera didn’t answer immediately, keeping her eyes closed to get used to the darkness in the room. Sensing that the two had their eyes on her, she slowly opened her eyes.
"Paula and Andrea are too far to visit," she remarked in the same languid tone. "You two are their proxy."
Huh?
"Say... do you know anyone who scares Dimitri?"
