Chapter 1099: Make the call tonight

BOOM!

Dominic held the edges of his desk to keep his balance. Without thinking twice, he rushed to Miracle’s crib and held her securely in his arms. His heart drummed against his chest, looking around the room. It was still intact and no traces of any fire.

Even so, he heard what he heard.

Thus, Dominic didn’t waste time and sprinted straight to the door. As soon as he did, he caught a few servants running to his room.

"What’s going on?" Dominic asked the first servant that came to him. "Where’s Basti?"

"Sir!!"

Just then, Gray’s voice reached Dominic. When the latter turned his head, he saw Gray carrying Sebastian in his arms.

"Let’s get out of here," Dominic said, his expression pale. "Tell everyone to get the hell out of here."

"Everyone is already going out," said the servant. "This way, sir."

"Gray!" This time, Princess’s voice reached them.

The servant, Gray, and Dominic turned their heads to her. Stopping a few steps from them, Princess drew a deep breath.

"The explosion is not here," she announced with deep breaths. "It’s the neighbor a few blocks from ours."

"Are you sure?" The servant gasped. "The entire house shook!"

"Yeah, that’s the impact of the explosion." Princess gulped the tension in her throat, nodding. "But I checked."

Deep lines appeared between Dominic and Gray’s forehead, eyes on Princess. They trusted her. They were familiar with what sort of destruction an explosion could cause. Hence, it wouldn’t be surprising if what they felt was simply an impact.

"Prepare to leave." Dominic slowly handed Miracle over to the Princess. "We’re leaving either way. I’ll go see the situation."

"I can do that!" Gray offered in a panic. "I’ll check it."

However, regardless of Gray’s intention, Dominic shook his head. "Look after them for now."

********

It was foolish for Dominic to check the situation on his own. However, at this point, he knew he had to see things for himself instead of letting others do the work for him. He wouldn’t believe anything if he only listened to reports, nor would it help him in any way if he cowered behind Hera’s back.

His wife was out there, fighting in the front line.

But this wasn’t about that anymore. Deep in Dominic’s heart, he knew hiding and using the excuse of staying with his kids would more likely put them in danger. After all, it was too close of a coincidence that the explosion happened right after he answered that mysterious call.

With that being said, Dominic went out to the front lawn to check what happened. And it was just as Princess said. His neighbor, a few blocks away from the villa, was on fire. Firefighters, the subdivision’s marshals, and people thronged the usually empty street.

’I think Hera said I might want to get out of here,’ he thought. ’Did she think I got busted?’

Dominic gulped down the rising tension in his throat, eyes on the fire and smoke the firefighters were trying to put out. He could even hear some cries along with the shouts and panic in the area.

’What is this supposed to mean?’he wondered, but his train of thoughts halted when he heard a call outside the villa. ’That call... this is not a coincidence. Is it a warning? That bomb could’ve been planted in my home, but instead, it was planted in my neighbor’s home that...’

"Hello, sir?"

Dominic gazed at the person outside, squinting his eyes as he assessed the man. The person was wearing a police uniform.

"I’m from the police. We’re investigating the explosion and we need everyone’s statement," the officer explained his agenda from outside the fence, holding a badge on his right.

Dominic let out a sigh, marching toward the gate. However, he didn’t open it immediately, assessing the person through the small gaps. Who knows? This might be an enemy.

"I know you’re scared," said the officer, but was cut mid-sentence as Dominic spoke.

"I can talk from here," Dominic remarked with hostility. "I don’t know what happened. We just heard the explosion, that’s all."

"Oh, anyone you saw suspicious lurking around in the past few days?"

"There’s none that I know of."

"How about your servants?"

"They don’t know."

The officer looked at him through the gaps. "May I talk to them?"

"You can, but not now. They’re too scared to be questioned."

"I see..." The officer sighed, nodding in understanding. "Very well. I’ll come back here again tomorrow morning, then."

"Sure." Dominic took a step back from the gate, only to hear the office speak again.

"Oh, by the way, if you remember anything, please call me." The officer slipped a calling card through the gaps, waiting for Dominic to take it. "That would help us very much."

Dominic gazed at the calling card. He took a deep breath and took another step, taking the calling card from the officer. But just as he pulled it, the officer held it tightly.

"You’re not careful enough, Mister Zhu. However, do not worry. Someone’s just very interested in you. This is simply to get your attention," the officer’s tone changed, making Dominic look back at him. "I hope you make the call tonight."

With that being said, the officer released the card and turned back. He casually went back to the sheriff’s car and left the street without raising suspicion from everyone around. It was bold, but it only showed the prowess of whoever sent that man.

"He could’ve shot me," he muttered to himself, but then, he believed if they wanted him dead, this villa behind him would have been the one on fire. Slowly, Dominic gazed down at the calling card the officer handed him.

Looking at it, his jaw tightened as his grip caused a little crease in it. This calling card was just like any typical calling card, but the name on it and the company were very familiar. It says:

[Dane Zhang

CEO’s Executive Representative and CEO’s department head

LYON GROUP

473 XXX]

The name, position, and company were correct except for the contact number. This wasn’t Dane’s contact number.

"Hera," he whispered. "I think getting separated is useless at this point."
