Chapter 1076: Back to the hell where they belong
[PORT]
"Where the hell is she?" Primo checked the time in irritation. "Should we leave her behind?"
Tiger just stood motionless several meters from him, staring at nothingness. Everyone had already left. At least, most of the Reapers who came on this mission already left via helicopter. There were also a few from the Interpol who came with them disguised as hostages, and then Ram and his people.
All that was left in the port were Primo and Tiger, the dead bodies loitering on the ground, and the helicopter hovering in the port. They were just waiting for Hera.
"Should we go find her?" Primo suggested, having this mixture of annoyance and worry. "She said she only needed a bit of time. This isn’t a bit of time anymore. We can’t stay here any longer, or the police will come."
"Tiger," he called again since Tiger didn’t seem like he was hearing him. "If you don’t want to, then I’d go —"
"She’s here."
Primo almost bit his tongue when he heard Tiger’s remarks. He watched the man jog away, following him with his gaze. When he did, he caught Hera approaching them by foot. Deep lines instantly appeared between his brows, catching a glimpse of Hera’s dead expression.
"Did she meet him?" he blurted out before he could even think. "I guess she did."
Meanwhile,Tiger stopped in front of Hera. He held her arm, lowering his head to see the bruise on her cheek.
"Hera," he called worriedly. "What happened?"
Hera slowly lifted her dimmed eyes to him. "Nothing."
Nothing?
By the looks of it, she fought with someone because of the bruise on her cheek and the cut on the side of her lips. However, Tiger held himself back from saying anything. Instead, he pulled her into his arms and patted her back.
"It’s okay," he cajoled, rocking his head. "It’s alright."
He patted her back while his other hand rested on the back of her head. "It’s okay, Hera. It’s... okay." He placed his chin on top of her head, taking a deep breath.
"Everything will be okay."
Hera didn’t react, nor did she embrace him back. She didn’t even try. She just stood there while he comforted her. For some reason, she couldn’t feel Tiger’s warmth. Or maybe her body just felt completely numbed and cold.
"You can cry if you want to," Tiger whispered. "No one’s looking."
He then turned his head to Primo before yelling, "Look away! I don’t want you to find out we’re actually secret lovers."
"Damn..." Primo sighed in irritation, shutting his eyes tightly while covering his ears. He then yelled. "I can’t even hear, okay? What did you say, Tiger!? Are you talking to me?"
Tiger weakly smiled at Primo’s obvious attempt to give her reassurance. But alas, Hera didn’t react. She simply stood frozen, not moving away from his embrace or indulging them with their suggestion.
"His fight... is over." After a prolonged silence, Hera pushed Tiger weakly. She glanced up at him without life in her eyes, not crying or showing any pain.
Her eyes were just deprived of life. It didn’t even bore the same confidence and arrogance she used to have. It was just like a dead person’s eyes. The only difference was that she was still breathing.
"Mine has yet to start," she added quietly, her voice barely above a whisper. "Don’t worry. I won’t fall apart on you, Tiger. As promised."
Hera patted his chest mildly before she walked past him.
"La la la la~!"
"Stop that now," she remarked at Primo, who was singing loudly while still keeping his hand on his ears. "Put an earplug. That might help."
"Huh?" Primo snapped his eyes open, only to see Hera approaching.
Hera raised a hand and flicked her fingers, beckoning the pilot to come down and pick them up. The aura she gave off was still the same, but the look in her eyes was something no one could overlook. She was acting fine, not shedding a tear, and even speaking in the same authoritative manner.
Yet, Primo and Tiger could feel the great difference she was now.
She was like a walking corpse now. A dangerous corpse who had lost everything she ever had.
"I guess the chopping board is no longer needed," Primo muttered, glancing at Tiger as the latter stood on his side. "Will she be fine?"
"You’ll be surprised how fine she will be," Tiger remarked, watching the chopper descend and create a harsh wind in the area. "At least, from what it looks."
"Mentally?"
"It won’t affect her judgment and make a decision that could kill all of us," Tiger reassured. "She has a habit of pouring all her energy into her work. So, expect busy days ahead. Whoever wants to cross her will get what they want."
"Are you saying... there’s nothing to worry about?"
"She’ll still be the same Hera we all know." Tiger turned and faced Primo squarely. "The same clever, skilled, and fearless boss. Only this time, she had no heart." — left it to wherever she left Dominic.
With that being said, Tiger walked away to join Hera as the chopper descended in front of her. Primo, on the other hand, stayed in the spot for a moment. He kept his eyes on Hera’s figure, sighing deeply.
’I know what it feels to lose everything,’ he thought as he took a step forward to get in the chopper and leave this place. ’You will never move forward, nor does time will heal it. Time... never heals the wounds. It just gives you room to learn how to come to terms with it.’
Once the chopper landed, Hera got in first. Following behind her was Tiger and then Primo. As they settled on their spot, both Primo and Tiger gazed at Hera on instinct.
"We’re leaving," said Tiger to her, making her look at the window on her side. "Are you sure you’re ready to go?"
Primo and Tiger waited for her answer, willing to fly to wherever she left her heart and abduct Dominic. Wild, but they were considering.
"Let’s go," Hera whispered, peeling her eyes from the window. "Our business here is over. We’ll go home... let’s go back to the hell where we all belong."
