Chapter 1075: Come back to me somehow

The sound of the motorbike roaring on the road rang in the air as Hera sped through the highway. She kept switching lanes at high speed, making the very few cars honk at her. She even thought she heard curses along the way, but she wasn’t so sure about it. She didn’t pay attention.

Hera just kept speeding, as if she was running out of time. Regardless of the dangers that were being carried out by her actions, she didn’t care. It wasn’t like a little bit of pain was enough to scare her anymore. She was already in unimaginable pain that an accident sounded like a piece of cake.

Her grip on the lever tightened, eyes fixed on the road, tears on them.

"I can’t..." Dominic’s sobs rang in her ears, still feeling his lingering hold on her body. "Hera, I... can’t... it hurts."

Hera clenched her teeth, twisting down the lever to speed up even more.

When Dominic embraced her as tight as he could, he kept begging her through his quiet sobs. He was almost choking, clasping her clothes as if that was the least he could do to stop her. She had never seen him break down that much. Even when she "died" as Heaven the first time, Dominic managed to keep his composure.

But tonight, he couldn’t.

It broke him and made him vulnerable to anything. She could no longer say she was in a hundred times more pain because what she saw, what she felt, and what she heard from his voice was pain even she couldn’t measure.

It made her want to come back, to bend, to tell him, "Fine, let’s find another way to do this." Hence, she was driving as if the road behind her was crumbling. She had to get away fast because, if not, she could see herself coming back to him and swallowing everything she had said. No matter how shameless that appeared.

"I’ll wait!" Again, Dominic’s voice rang in her ears, reminding her of his words as she walked away from him.

[SHORT FLASHBACK]

"You know I can’t forget about you and I will still break down every time I think of you," Dominic added courageously despite his voice cracking. Hands balled tightly, tears pouring down from his eyes. "Don’t even think another love will erase the good and bad memories we shared."

Dominic kept staring at her back, his breathing heavy and slow. His neck turned taut as he tried to speak his mind, not allowing her to go just like that.

"As much as possible, I’ll take care of our children and protect them from any harm. I’ll do everything it takes to keep the peace they deserve even if I have to die for it," he continued, stopping once more as he felt like choking. "So, finish everything and come back to me... somehow."

"I’ll wait. I’ll be patient and wait — no matter how long this wait was, I won’t complain." Dominic forced a smile, grinding his teeth, barely forcing the words out of him. "All I’m asking you is... come back to me. I won’t ask you to apologize or explain. I’ll be waiting and we can continue from where we left."

Hera cast her eyes down, trying her best to hold back her tears. However, her traitorous tears escaped the confines of her eyes and streamed down without control. She clasped her hands, digging her trimmed nails into her palm until she could feel the slight pain in them.

Hera didn’t look back, even if that was the only thing she wanted to do. Instead, she took another step, and it was no surprise that her foot weighed too heavy for her to even carry. Even so, she resumed her steps, even if every step was torturously crippling.

Meanwhile, Dominic stayed in the same spot while staring at her back. For some reason, he knew it was over the second he stared at the back of her figure.

[Present Time]

Hera’s vision blurred as tears brimmed in her eyes. This time, she let out a scream to release the pain and heaviness in her chest.

"Hah..." she sobbed and screamed while still recklessly maneuvering her way on the highway. "I’m sorry. Dom... I... need you."

She clenched her teeth, muffling her call for help. "Save... me."

Whoever listening to her would probably say she had gone crazy. After pushing the love of her life away, after begging him to let her go, she was asking him to save her. It was ridiculous, but alas, it was what her heart had been screaming the second she saw him fighting with Dane.

Watching him corner Dane, fight him, and even dominate him. Even when Dominic closed his eyes before getting struck by a rock, just because his intuition told him someone would come out to save him, amazed her. It gave her hope. A hope that Dominic might just solve all of Hera’s problems without her lifting a finger.

But alas...

Even if Dominic could do that, what about the kids? Who would take care of them? Hera? This face was far too popular in the underground now. Heaven? That woman couldn’t even take care of herself. Axel might, but their children would look for them. Moreover, having Hera’s face known to everyone was the main reason she couldn’t be with them. Putting Dom’s face out there would close all bridges and doors for the kids; it was akin to begging her enemies to target his kids.

They could keep Dominic’s identity a secret for some time, but Hera didn’t want to underestimate her enemies. They would find out one way or another. Because her enemies weren’t just a simple mob; her enemies weren’t like Dragon or Dane. They were even scarier, smarter, and capable.

"Hah..." she sobbed through her gritted teeth.

The life Hera Cruel had was not something she chose. She was born in it. But this one, this pain, was her choice. A choice she made not just as Hera Cruel, but as a mother of two adorable rays of sunshine and the wife of a wonderful man.
