Chapter 1074: till death do they part.
[Flashback]
"Paris?" Dominic suggested, opening his eyes ever so slowly. When he did, the first thing he saw was Heaven, looking down at him curiously. Dominic had his head on her lap, his body lying on the thin fabric over the grass.
"The Maldives?" he suggested once more, and this time, Heaven cocked her head to the side. "Caribbean?"
"Dom, what are you saying?" asked Heaven. "I can’t understand if you just started giving places names."
"Where do you want to go for our next picnic?"
"Me?"
"Mhm. We can afford it."
"I’m not saying we can’t." Heaven pouted. "Paris? Hmm. I don’t think I’m welcome there."
His brows rose. "As Heaven?"
"Oh, right?" Heaven chuckled nervously, glancing at their side where Sebastian was napping. When she was sure her son was asleep, she gazed down at her husband again, giggling. "Sorry. I forgot I’m Heaven since you started calling me by my name."
"How about the Maldives?"
"It’s a pretty place. I know a few locals."
"Friendly locals?"
"Friendly, to the point they want me dead."
Dominic squinted his eyes, now even more curious at the places she had been as Hera. "Japan?"
"Nah. The yakuza will chop my pinky after I toss them in the fire."
"Bora Bora?" he spewed randomly, curious if she also got bad friends over there.
"Darling, do you know where some Russian Mafias hide?" she asked out of plain curiosity. "It’s not like they bite unprovoked, but when an enemy steps into their territory. Things can be bad."
"Is there a place for Hera to go?"
"Of course."
"Where?"
"All the countries you mentioned."
"Huh?"
Heaven grinned from ear to ear while his mouth fell ajar. It wasn’t like her enemies were enough to stop her from visiting a country. But for sure, it wasn’t a vacation. Dominic knew his wife — the soul inside Heaven’s body — was a notorious person in the underground. But he had underestimated how narrow her world was.
"Have you ever had a vacation?" he asked out of plain curiosity. "As Hera, have you?"
"I always call things a vacation." She shrugged with a nonchalant smile. "It’s not that bad."
"Not bad? Or did you just get used to it?"
Heaven raised her brows, maintaining the smile. "I can do that now," she said. "With you, Basti, and..." she paused, placing her hand on her bulging stomach. "And our little Miracle."
"Mhm." Dominic smiled, propping his elbow to push himself up. Since she couldn’t bend over because of her baby bump, he lifted his head and planted a soft peck on her lips. "They’re not dangerous places if you’re Heaven, right?"
"I’m just a tourist. Why would it be dangerous for me?"
Both their lips stretched from ear to ear as they held each other’s gaze. When Dominic rested his head back on her lap, she raised a question.
"Why were you asking, by the way?" she tilted her head to the side, plucking out a grape which she slipped in his mouth. "If you want to have a picnic, we can do it here. I mean, there were many places like this around here. And good thing, we won’t compromise Basti’s school."
Dominic chewed the grape while looking at her. He swiftly shoved his hand inside his pocket, making her knit her brows. When he took out his hand, he was holding a small box.
"Honeymoon," he confessed, opening the box with his thumb, before showing it to her. "Let’s get married."
Heaven stared at the ring in surprise, casting her eyes down on him.
"Heaven and I had a civil wedding. We barely signed the papers and got our marriage registered," he explained. "We never had a proper wedding."
"Are you proposing to your wife?"
"I am proposing to the love of my life," he clarified. "It’s a shame your name is different in the family registry, but the one I want to marry is you, Hera."
His expression softened, smiling at her gently. "Will you marry me, Hera Cruel?"
"Dom." Heaven chuckled, glancing at the ring again. She shook her head, biting her lips, giggling.
"Basti will be a cute ring bearer." He wiggled his brows. "Though I don’t think I can wait until Miri can walk. I have an idea, so she can still be a flower girl."
Her eyes softened, sighing as she shook her head. This was silly, she thought. She didn’t need a wedding because this marriage was all she could ever ask for. However, as she looked at the ring once more, a thin layer of tears suddenly coated her eyes.
"Of course," she breathed out, smiling. "Even if we have to do it a hundred — a thousand times."
His lips stretched until his teeth were fully displayed, taking out the ring. Heaven willingly lent her hand, watching him take out the wedding ring on her finger and replace it with this one.
"I spent tears and blood just to get this stone," he quipped, meeting her eyes once more. "It’s beautiful."
Heaven looked at the ring on her finger. "There’s only a few Aphrodite’s Tears in the world." She then cast her eyes back on him. "Now all of them are mine."
"One is legally obtained," he humored, making her laugh out loud.
Dominic lifted his head once more, placing another peck on her lips. She cupped his face, kissing him back deeper until they parted.
"I love you, Hera," he whispered affectionately. "Let’s stay together forever."
"Mhm." She hummed and nodded. "Let’s grow old together until Basti enters his rebellious stage and becomes a fine adult."
"And until our hairs are white."
"Our skin wrinkly."
"Our backs hunched."
Heaven and Dominic chuckled together, leaning their faces to each other again to share another round of passionate kisses. They were so sure they would be together for as long as they could. Even before the wedding, they already pledged to love and cherish each other, for richer or for poorer, in sickness and in health, till death do they part.
Who would have thought this promise of forever would be spent differently and separately?

[PRESENT TIME]
"Check over there!" Bear instructed the men to check the other area of the field.
Everyone had been searching for Dominic, but the tall grasses deterred them from finding him immediately. Bear, on the other hand, continued to make his way through the grasses. He heard a few gunfires in the area, and his anxiety that Dominic was injured peaked every second.
"Dom —" Bear halted when he stepped out of the tall grasses, leading him to the pathway. His brows rose, turning his head to the side.
There, sitting on the muddy ground, was Dominic. Near Dominic was Dane’s unmoving body. Dominic was facing the opposite direction, so Bear could only see his back.
"Dom," he called, advancing in Dominic’s direction until he was a few steps from him. "Are you..."
"She left," Dominic whispered lifelessly, but it still reached Bear’s ears. "Hera... she..."
His breath skipped, grinding his teeth, tears flowing from his eyes. "She left... and I had to let her." He clasped his chest, his heart felt like it was about to explode.
Bear’s broad shoulders relaxed, eyes on Dominic’s trembling back. He let out a shallow breath, eyes softening as he shifted his eyes to the direction Dominic was facing.
"I’m sorry," Bear expressed, only to hear Dominic’s muffled sobs sound louder. "I’m... sorry, Dom."
