Dane took a deep breath and closed his eyes. His neck turned taut as he held his breath longer than he should have. He slowly raised his hands to his shoulder level when he breathed out. Reopening his eyes, he glanced over his shoulder and whispered;

Dominic didn’t answer, assessing Dane from behind.

"See?" Dane scorned, waving the pistol slightly. "You should’ve pulled the trigger the moment you pressed the muzzle on my dome. If only you did, I wouldn’t have the chance. Bad habits are called bad for a reason."

Dominic slowly raised his hands on his shoulder level. He kept his eye contact with Dane, not showing any sign of fear.

"Hah. Did you think you can kill me, Dominic Zhu?" Dane mocked.

"Yes."

"I know you can, but too bad, though." Dane smacked his lips, arching a brow knowingly. "You got cocky... again."

Dominic rocked his head. "I didn’t."

"Just what?"

"I was thinking that killing you with one shot is far too... easy."

"And this, ladies and gentlemen, is one of his bad habits too!" Dane laughed, shaking his head mildly. He took a languid step closer, raising the pistol until its muzzle was pressing on Dominic’s forehead.

Dane slowly leaned his face forward, smirking evilly. "Don’t worry, CEO Zhu — or rather, Minister Zhu, because this won’t hurt." He nodded reassuringly, caressing the trigger carefully. "You won’t feel anything. Even if your body falls hard, it won’t hurt you. Do you know what’s good about being dead?"

A malevolent smirk dominated Dane’s face, staring at Dominic up close. His eyes showed satisfaction as if etching Dominic’s last moment of his life. When he was about to pull the trigger, Dominic broke his silence.

"Hera must’ve scared the hell out of you, huh?" Dominic’s eyelids drooped, watching how the smirk on Dane’s face disappeared. "I bet the thought of having her going after you took away all the fun and games you enjoyed doing. I wonder what she would take away from you next?"

"Would it be power? Control? Your people? Confidence?" He added with genuine wonder. "I don’t know which will come first, but I’m sure death would be last."

At this point, the confident smirk on Dane’s face vanished without a trace.

"You’re angry," Dominic pointed out. "The veins in your forehead are protruding and your grip on the pistol is tighter. I bet, realizing that you crossed the wrong person and got too greedy is a bitter pill to swallow."

"You... know Hera Cruel...?" Dane trailed off, assuming Hera’s people had been hanging out with Dominic for quite some time now.

It wouldn’t be surprising if Dominic knew about Hera. Moreover, Dominic had participated in the attack on his mansion at the same time some Reapers attacked Dragon. It would be stupid not to think Dominic didn’t know Hera one way or another.

"You work for her?" he asked out of pure curiosity. "Knowing you, it would be ’with’ and not ’for.’"

"Surrender now, Mr. Zhang," Dominic advised. "If you do, you might have a chance to live."

"Hah!"

"But if you don’t, you’d live your life running away from a madwoman," Dominic continued. "You know no matter how fast you go or wherever you hide, she would find you. Matter of fact, she would find you sooner than you expected. But considering she’d be too bored with her life, she would purposely miss you for the fun of it."

Dominic paused for a second, keeping his eyes on Dane. "You and Hera... will spend the rest of your lives playing cat and mouse until all your fighting spirits are gone."

"What makes you think I’ll agree with your suggestion?" Dane snickered in amusement. "Do you think I’m stupid?"

"No, but I don’t want that kind of fate for the two of you."

"Ah?"

"It makes me jealous." Dominic shrugged. "In my understanding, it sounds more like a marriage. It’s just that the vow is taking each other’s lives, but it will still bind you for the rest of your lives. I don’t want that."

Dane let out a scoff, overly miffed at the nonsense Dominic was spewing at gunpoint. "This might be a lame trap or a desperate attempt to make yourself feel better before you die. But I’ll kill Hera and everyone who stands in my way the same way I’ll kill you tonight."

As soon as Dane uttered those words, he unhesitatingly pulled the trigger.
