Chapter 1057: Lucky night

[FLASHBACK: SORRENTO, SUN ORGANIZATION’s MANSION]

"Ugh..." Katherine grunted. The pain in parts of her body felt paralyzing. ’No. I can’t die now.’

She tried crawling away in a futile attempt to escape. However, she knew deep in her heart this could be her end. Yet, she still tried. No matter how imbalanced and cruel she was, she was just like anybody else in the face of death.

They would kill and even torture others but were too afraid to face their deaths.

"I got to..." she trailed off when she sensed a person’s presence in her vicinity. Rolling on her back, her mouth parted, eyes wide. Katherine held her breath, staring sternly at the pair of eyes hovering over her.

For a moment, she couldn’t react and her mind just went into a blank state. All she could do was stare at the person looking down at her. The look on Dominic’s face wasn’t enough to distract her. She could only stare at his eyes, devoid of any human emotion.

Dominic just stood there beside her, looking at her as if she was a piece of meat he would never put in his dish. She had met and seen different sorts of people in the underground. Many of them were always full of emotions. Anger, joy, greed, fear... all sorts of emotions under the same circumstances were usual to be seen. But this man... he carried none of those.

The only thing she could see in him was... none.

’Don’t kill me,’ was what she wanted to tell the man. She was even prepared to beg. But alas, after looking into his eyes, she knew saying those words was futile. This man would kill her, not out of spite or anything of the sort.

He would kill her because... he could.

It scared her. For the first time, she felt sincerely scared. And her body reacted to this growing fear, and she ended up peeing herself.

"You..." Katherine whispered, lips quivering, her nerves already numbing before her impending doom. "... are a monster."

Dominic didn’t even flinch at her dying remarks.

"Just who are you?" she added as if speaking more was her only way to take advantage of the last moments of her life. "No... I know you."

Now that she thought about it, she realized why this man’s face looked familiar. After all, Katherine would secretly stalk Dane from afar. Therefore, she was very much aware that this man was the person Dane had been working for all these years.

"Oh, Dimitri, my love..." Katherine let out a weak laugh, as she only felt more worried for Dane instead of her own well-being. "... just what kind of monsters did he awaken?"

Dominic slowly pointed his rifle at him. "I am no monster," he muttered quietly as his index caressed the trigger. "But I can if that means my wife didn’t have to be one."

BANG!

*******

[PRESENT TIME]

BANG!

Dominic fired his gun at Dane without a second hesitation. But alas, Dane had seen it coming. The moment Dane saw the black handle within Dominic’s grip, he knew the latter had planned to kill him. Thus, Dane instinctively jumped away, rolling to where his suitcase was to fight back.

It only took him a few quick rolls for Dane to reach for his gun. When he did, he stood on his one knee, firing back in Dominic’s direction. This time, however, Dominic kicked the table from underneath, subsequently making it flip around to catch the bullet in his way.

When Dominic jumped away from his seat, he picked up the rifle hidden behind him when he was seated. Without wasting a breath, he fired numerous times in Dane’s direction.

"Fuck you!" Dane yelled, springing up from his position, and fled out of the cabin.

"He was just talking big about not fleeing," Dominic spat out to this side, eyes glinting, jogging toward the door to follow his enemy. But just as he reached the open door, he swiftly hid on the side because Dane fired back at him.

Dominic took a deep breath as his back was almost fusing with the wall. He closed his eyes for a moment, counting the bullets Dane had already fired.

"He will never make it to the Reapers," he whispered. "Does he know why Dragon succeeded in taking the majority of the Reapers hostage?" — Because Dragon was a former member of the Reapers, and thus, he had the same training as everyone. Dragon was aware of whether he had an advantage or not in any gunfight battle — just like any other reaper.

It just boiled down to their different skill set and how to maximize their cards. Good thing the Reapers had been around him for an extended period of time for him to get familiar with all the types of guns.

Dominic arched a brow and glanced over his shoulder, waiting for Dane to stop shooting him. "Fifteen bullets left, and he’s dead."

Meanwhile, Hera leisurely chewed gum as she filled up her motorbike. She was humming while reading the list of locations Ram handed to her.

"Where could he be?" she muttered to herself, glancing at the gasoline meter to see if it was done. "It’s not even a full tank. I should’ve asked for their cars instead."

Hera lazily put the hose back in its place, closing the lid of her fuel tank and riding her motorbike. She checked the fuel gauge. It was still above the middle. After she put on her helmet, she idled for a moment and skimmed through the possible locations where Dimitri could’ve hidden.

"Whatever." She folded the document in two, slipping it into the small space in the motorcycle’s head. ’I’ll check them one by one. I just hope my husband woke up from the wrong side of the bed and is suffering from a mental fog that he will spend the entire night trying to find Dimitri.’

With that thought in mind, Hera revved up her ride and sped away from the gas station. It wasn’t like she was worried about Dominic. Her husband wasn’t as simple as others think he was. If anything, he was the real threat anyone wouldn’t expect. Aside from all the information he knew — which came from her during their pillow talks — her husband was skilled enough to use every resource to their full potential.

But what truly worried her was that Dominic might just embrace the darkness he fought so hard for growing up. The darkness that Dominic’s uncle, Leon, gifted him since that time he abducted and attempted to kill him.

"That man needs to be set straight... because if both of us are monsters, our children will suffer. Look what happened to me."

A glint flickered across her eyes as she sped through the highway. But just as she was speeding, she caught these cars driving in the opposite lane, heading in the same direction where she came from.

The port.

"Hmm?" Hera slowed down and took a peek, catching a familiar man driving one of the SUVs. "Guess it’s my lucky night. Hihi."
