Chapter 1056: Lost it

"She knew what true loyalty means. She had seen it... and loathed it. Thus, she knew loyalty at first sight. She didn’t see that in you."

Dominic and Dane stared at each other for a moment after Dominic’s last remarks. Dane ran his tongue across his inner cheek, reminded of that woman who spoiled his plans.

"Haha!" Dane chuckled, shaking his head. "No, you’re wrong, Dominic. Although you were right that I chose you because of that reason. How many men who stand on the same ground as you have a clean track record as you?"

It wasn’t initially the power or the influence Dominic held that attracted people like Dane to him. It was the fact that despite Dominic’s position, he was well-respected and well-connected. On top of that, Dominic was clean of any corruption. All his taxes were paid, his employees well-compensated, and his company upheld its integrity.

Dominic was free from any illegal activity. He was as clean as a new canvas.

If something bad happened, Dominic would be the last person to be suspected. It was just like what Dominic said. Dominic was a perfect cover, the perfect wall to hide from. Above all, Dane, or rather, Dimitri and Dominic, had no known connection in the past. No one could trace Dominic to him if he ever had to abandon the name Dimitri.

However, all of those reasons only surfaced after everything that had happened. Dane’s intention was far from that, initially.

"Oh, Dominic. Why do you have to fall for that wench?" he continued under his breath, stressing each syllable harshly. "Truth is, I never intended to hurt you, Dominic Zhu. How can I hurt someone whom many people would gladly hound if all my wrongdoings pointed in your direction?"

The corner of his mouth curled up into a smirk. "That Heaven Liu... I knew she should’ve died. Why did that Andrew Song have to fail? If only he killed her, it would’ve worked out for you and me."

"For me?" Dominic rocked his head. "I guess you were right."

"But well, I heard she was in a coma." Dane shrugged, arching a brow as he smirked again. "Right. You don’t know? I placed people around her ward."

Dominic’s expression turned darker while Dane’s smirk stretched.

"You got my message. Stay dead, and your children will not get harmed. But I never said I won’t touch that bitch," Dane mocked and laughed. "It’s her fault. I knew it. No wonder I never liked her. It’s a premonition of what sort of trouble she would stir."

He straightened his back, raising his chin until he was almost looking down at Dominic. "I just hadn’t killed her because... I feel sorry for your children. I mean, their dad is almost dead. How could they lose their mom as well on the same day?"

"That is why I ordered for the delay. I said around four—five days later?" Dane rubbed his chin as if wondering how many days it had been since he gave out that order. The sides of his mouth stretched from ear to ear until his teeth were fully displayed, adding, "If my calculations are correct, that should be today."

"Today would be Heaven Liu’s death anniversary day."

Dane laughed evilly, looking at Dominic with mockery. This was what he meant when he said Dominic hadn’t gotten the upper hand.

"I might be amused that you found where I am, but Dominic, you... are weak," Dane dawdled with a hiss. "You have so much weakness in you that all your talents and skills don’t matter. You bend immediately when your kids and wife are mentioned..."

Dane trailed off, furrowing his brows at the subtle smile that appeared on Dominic’s face. Dominic held his laughter back, but failed miserably. Dominic laughed with his mouth shut, holding his head as he lowered his head.

"Why are you laughing?" asked Dane, watching the man try his best to contain his laughter. "You’re not fooling anyone, Dom. Do you think I’d buy this bluff? Your wife will die."

"What a great idea." When Dominic spoke, he slowly raised his head and combed his hair back. "If that is the plan, then be sure she’s dead."

His mouth was stretched into a vile grin, his eyes sharp and cunning. The overall look on his face seemed wicked, as if the devil possessed him. Seeing the look on his face, Dane immediately felt hostile and entered his offensive mode.

This guy had lost it.

"You want your wife dead?" Dane repeated, almost laughing. "You? Hah! Who would believe that? You and I know that you would do anything for your wife."

"If she’s dead... isn’t that a great excuse for remarriage?" Dominic remarked, ignoring Dane’s last comment. He didn’t care what Dane had to say. He heard enough. "I never thought of that. Sounds ideal... I think."

"What are you talking about?"

"I’m saying if you’re going to kill my wife, make sure you don’t fail this time," Dominic urged. "Stab her a thousand times until she’s drained of blood. If you’re going to gun her down, make sure it goes through her head. Three holes in her forehead, just to be sure. Might as well disintegrate her body to make sure she doesn’t cause any more trouble... for you and me."

Dane subconsciously took a step, a little creeped out at Dominic’s change of tone toward his wife. ’Is he serious? He wants his wife dead? No. He might be bluffing.’But then again, Dane worked for Dominic for many years.

They knew each other more than they knew themselves. And Dominic? He could be diabolical — Satan himself, if he wanted to. And right now, Dominic wasn’t in the right state of mind. Dane didn’t notice it initially because of the shock, but he could see it clearly now.

The Dominic he knew... wasn’t this man.

All this time, he was simply trying to act normal.

He lost it.

Unbeknownst to Dane, this discovery would’ve been important to those who knew Dominic’s real situation. It wasn’t Hera’s mental state of mind they should worry about. It was Dominic’s.

"Heaven Liu’s death... might just save my children the pain of why their mother and I can never be together again." Dominic slowly put the flask in his suit, eyes still on Dane. His wicked smile remained, eyes dark. "Her death might just save my children’s innocence and warrants me... freedom. And you’d be happy because the woman who popped your little bubble is dead!"

The corner of Dominic’s eyes creased as he grinned. "That could’ve worked for you... and me."

When the last syllable rolled out of his mouth, he took out his hand and was already holding a small pocket-sized pistol. Without a second hesitation, he fired it at Dane.
