Chapter 1058: What a terrible luck

"Guess tonight’s my lucky night!" Hera giggled as she glanced at the highway. When it was safe enough for her, she drifted into the lane and made a U-turn.

Sounds of abrupt honks erupted on the highway at the motorbike making a U-turn in the fast lane. Fortunately, they were just in the lane beside it and didn’t crush the rider. But then again, she wouldn’t make such a bold move if she knew it would kill her at that moment.

Hera lowered her head a bit as she saw a fast-moving sedan honking and beaming at her in the same lane. She hissed and revved up the engine, driving straight to where the sedan was. She might not know what sort of curses the driver was shouting as it tried to lower its speed, but what she did know was that she needed enough momentum to get through the barricade.

The sound of honking got louder and longer, but Hera kept her eyes ahead. Before she could crash into the sedan, she turned the handle and drove through the barricade. Her motorbike jumped, making use of the elevated concrete as her ramp.

Those who were driving in the same direction found their jaws on their lap, eyes wide at the motorbike flying over the barricades. For them, time seemed to stop for a moment as they held their breaths. When the motorbike safely landed on the other track, they saw the rider struggle to maintain her balance. But after a few moments, she was back on track, speeding on the opposite track and leaving this highway for only sane drivers to use.

Good luck to those on the other side.

"What the hell was that?" the man from the sedan breathed out, almost crashing on the post because he got too distracted. Fortunately, no accident was met despite the brief circus they caught moments ago.

Meanwhile, in one of the SUVs that were driving straight to the port, Romnick huffed. His expression was solemn, mind filled with different strategies to execute the order successfully. This was tricky, he thought. The Reapers already got the upper hand in the port, and coming there was akin to a death sentence.

The Reapers already pushed back their forces to retreat, like always.

His expression turned even darker, remembering his experience in Dragon’s den not long ago. Back there, the Reapers also pushed everyone back to flee. If only the Reapers fight fairly, but they don’t. They do all sorts of crazy stuff. At that time, Fig launched an entire chopper to kill him. Thus, hearing that container after container was being thrown into the port like baggage almost didn’t surprise him.

’I still think this is impossible,’ he thought. "Once we kill Elliot, we’re leaving."

The man seated in the front passenger seat looked at Romnick and nodded. "And the rest?"

"Don’t bother," Romnick grumbled. "Our only target is Elliot Dunkel. As much as possible, don’t engage with any of the Reapers."

"Yes."

"Any new developments in the port?"

"Our men that managed to escape told us it was still ongoing," reported the man solemnly. "And most of our men that were stationed in the port and were in charge of highjacking the ship were probably dead or held hostages."

Romnick’s already grim expression darkened even more. "Tell them to find a spot they could hide while still being able to monitor the situation."

"They’re already doing that, but they told me it’s impossible to turn things around," the other man replied bitterly. "They’ve already sighted some members of the Reapers, but they never saw Hera Cruel."

"I don’t think Hera Cruel needs to be there to succeed."

"Boss Rom, I don’t think you should still underestimate her," said the man solemnly. "She regained her memories and since then, everything in the underground is falling apart. You heard the message she sent to everyone in the underground."

Of course, Romnick knew that.

Not long ago, another message from Hera Cruel circulated in the underground. This time, however, wasn’t a video. Rather, it was Dragon’s beaten-up photo with a text saying:

[This is Dragon. He crossed the line he shouldn’t, so he’s now knocking on hell’s door. Don’t be like him.]

The warning was only sent to certain individuals. At least, most of the people Romnick knew in the underground received the warning, while some didn’t. It was the reason half of Dragon’s associates and alliances cut him off as soon as they heard about Hera.

Not to mention, the news of the Reapers entering the Interpol and leaving unscathed also circulated. This news, however, only came from Dane. He said it came from one of his trusted sources.

"I’m not underestimating her," Romnick clarified. "No matter what my first impression of her was, she’s Hera Cruel. Probably not as crazy as that other woman, though. But her name made it out there for a reason."

"You mean... that woman named Heaven Liu?"

"Mhm." Romnick nodded, recalling that unforgettable chase with Heaven Liu. "Any word from the people we sent to kill her?"

"The last I heard is they’re going to execute her tonight."

"They better make sure she’s dead." A glint flickered across Romnick’s eyes, deprived of sighing in relief until they told him Heaven Liu was dead. "That woman can’t recover. If she did, I’m afraid we have another big problem on our hands."

The other man assessed Romnick before he blurted out, "Is she really that terrifying?"

"She’s unhinged." Romnick’s answer was quick as if he didn’t need a second to ponder about it. "And a crazy person with skills is always an alarming opponent. That’s why many stories with mad scientist villains are stressful."

"That’s quite the example."

"I’m saying the level of difficulty is the same..." Romnick trailed off when he heard a sudden knock on the window. He furrowed his brows, glancing at the meter gauge on instinct. They were speeding on the highway, so there was no way someone could just knock on the window like it was parked.

The other man’s thought was the same, thinking he was probably hearing things. Thus, he didn’t mention anything. But after a few more seconds, they heard another knock. This time, they saw a figure in the driver’s seat window. Turning their heads, they caught a person riding a motorbike, catching up to them until it was driving at the same pace.

What?

Both Romnck and the other man stared at the rider until the latter bent over to look at them. Her visor was up, making them see her squinting eyes as if she was smiling.

"Who is that...?" the man in the front passenger seat blurted out under his breath. They could only see her eyes. Thus, he didn’t know the person.

But Romnick was different.

He had seen those pair of eyes before. Therefore, he recognized the rider almost immediately.

"Hera Cruel," Romnick breathed out, sensing this feeling of dread creeping up his spine. "That’s Hera Cruel. She’s here."

What a terrible luck.
