Chapter 1037: Superheroes always win, right?

As Hera, she knew having someone as adorable as Sebastian calls her mommy was a farfetched dream. It was a dream she would only have in her sleep. And it was good enough for her.

"Mommy..."

Hera instinctively held her breath as she froze, eyes dilating. Both shock and touch clashed in her heart, battling which emotion was dominant. She slowly turned around, gazing down at the boy she tried so hard not to embrace at first sight.

"What... did you just say?" she breathed out with quivering lips.

Sebastian pursed his lips, studying the look on her face. The corner of her eyes slowly turned red and a layer of tears coated her eyes. By the looks of it, she was on the brink of falling apart.

"My mommy," he smiled warmly. "She’s going to be fine."

"Oh." Hera blinked fast, nodding. ’That’s what he meant. He’s not calling me mom. Of course, he wouldn’t know. Haha. Silly me.’

Hera forced a smile as she swallowed the tension in her throat. "I know she will be." She took a step toward him, ruffling his hair gently.

"Your mom will be fine, so don’t worry about her," she asserted, nodding at him encouragingly.

The two of them stared at each other before Hera retrieved her hand slowly. But just as she did, his little hands quickly reached for her hand. Hera almost jolted when he grabbed her hand, furrowing her brows as she caught him staring at the bandage around it. The book in his arms fell on his side, but only Hera glanced at it while Sebastian ignored it.

"You have very rough hands," he pointed out, pressing his thumb on her palm. When he looked up, he blinked at her innocently. "My mommy said if people have rough hands, it means they are hard workers."

Hera kept her eyes fixed on the little fingers pressing on her palm. "Is it?"

"Mhm." Sebastian nodded. "My mommy also said it’s awfully cruel for people to deliberately break their promises."

"Hmm?"

"She promised to pick us up from our grandparents’ home," he continued. "When do you think that is?"

Deep lines resurfaced on her forehead, looking at him in genuine wonder. His eyes swirled with the same curiosity and anticipation.

’Basti...’Hera mentally whispered, eyes softening. She squatted down in front of him once again. For some reason, it felt like there were only two of them.

"Is she... going to leave us?" he asked once again. "She promised, though. That if she decided, she would take me with her."

Sebastian bent down to pick up his book, handing it to her. "She put her hand over this book and promised."

Hera glanced at the book she was so familiar with. When she woke up in Heaven’s body for the first time, Sebastian was into cloning. When asked, he said that he needed another Sebastian to leave for his father. In that case, Dominic wouldn’t come looking for him.

A tear suddenly rolled down her cheeks, which she wiped with the back of her hand immediately. Hera drew a deep breath, forcing a smile as he looked back at him.

"Mommy... your mommy... is still recovering," she breathed out with a forced smile. "I’m sure once she gets better, she will fulfill all the promises she told you."

"Are you sure?"

"Mhm." She nodded. "Hundred percent."

Sebastian stared at her for a moment, moving the book closer to her. "Can you take this with you?" he asked, making her brows rise. "And give it to her?"

"Sure." Hera took the book carefully, biting her bottom lips while maintaining her smile. "I’ll give it to her and tell her she should stop being a bi—wimp."

She raised her hand and cupped his face. "Your mommy is lucky. I bet she’s so proud to have such a genius and considerate boy like you."

He smiled in response.

Meanwhile, Princess looked at them with soft eyes. She carefully took a step back to give them some space. Until now, she was unsure if the little master knew Hera was his mom or considered her as Heaven’s friend. Either way, she knew Hera was glad to have this conversation with her son.

’Little master...’Princess set his eyes on Sebastian’s back. ’... you have no idea just how many lives you had given hope and a future.’

Princess then slowly shifted her eyes to Hera, smiling subtly.

Just then, she caught a figure who had just come out of the elevator. When she lifted her eyes, Princess let out a shallow huff upon catching Gray standing motionlessly. His eyes were wide, looking in Hera’s direction.

Gray shifted his eyes to Princess, only to see her shake her head mildly.

When Hera and Sebastian parted, Princess and Sebastian resumed their quick journey to Heaven’s ward. Gray didn’t follow as he went with Hera discreetly.

"Uncle Princess?" Sebastian called as he slowed down, looking up at Princess. "What do superheroes do?"

"Huh?" Princess furrowed her brows.

"Do they always save the world?"

Princess pondered about it, wondering where this line of questions was coming from. "Little master, to be honest, I don’t know." She squatted down in front of him and smiled. "But what I do know is that they always fight the bad guys."

"And superheroes always win, right?"

"Well... I guess."

"I see." Sebastian rocked his head in understanding. "I understand now."

With that being said, Sebastian resumed his steps. Princess slowly pushed herself up, smiling as she watched the little master reach Heaven’s room. Standing in front of Heaven’s ward, Sebastian stared at the door for a moment.

Much to Princess’s dismay, instead of knocking and going inside, Sebastian wiped his eyes with his arm.

"Little master..." Princess panicked, rushing to his side. "Is there something wrong?"

Sebastian faced Princess, chewing his bottom lips as he said, "Uncle Princess, what if my mommy is the bad guy? I don’t want the superheroes to win."

"Basti, what are you..." Princess trailed off, realizing this boy knew his mother more than any of them. Maybe more than Dominic. She carefully pulled the little master into her embrace to console him, stroking his back mildly.

"You know, Basti... that woman back there is not a bad guy," she cajoled. "She’s very kind to the point it’s ridiculous."

Princess created distance between them, smiling at him encouragingly. "And she’s also someone who always keeps her promise."

"Really?"

"Yes."

Sebastian sniffed hard, wiping his eyes with his arm once again. "Uncle Princess, can you tell me more about her?"

"Of course." Her smile softened, nodding. "Happily."
