Chapter 1035: Sometimes life’s timing can be awfully cruel.
Chapter 1035: Sometimes life’s timing can be awfully cruel.
If there was someone who could understand Hera just as deeply as herself, that would be Heaven. She lived as Hera for months, and then back to her own body, where Hera’s soul lived. Therefore, Heaven knew switching back to their original bodies left Hera with nothing.
And it was quite inspiring that for someone who lost everything, they could still be kind.
"Live, Heaven. Live."
Heaven smiled subtly as a thin layer of tears coated her eyes. Hera’s words replayed in her mind even when the woman left.
"How could I ever hate you, Hera?" she whispered. "When you are so beautiful inside and out?"
Hera might not be perfect. She could be very cruel and devious, but one could understand why the people around her care and love her so genuinely. Hera had no pretenses; she hated and loved openly. And even if it killed her, she would choose to do the right thing for those she loved.
"I always hoped she was just as vile as others see her," she continued under her breath, letting her tears land on the back of her fist. "Has anyone told her it’s much better if she’s just as irredeemable as Dragon and me?"
At the bottom of Heaven’s heart, she knew all the people around Hera hoped for that. It would be easier for everyone to let her go if she was. But she wasn’t.
"This is unfair." Heaven buried her face in her palms, muffling her sobs as she thought of Hera. "How can you thank me for existing... when you should’ve cursed me to death?"
She chewed her bottom lips, hugging her knees as she sobbed quietly. Deep in her heart, she was thankful that Hera had made time to visit her one last time. But also, the kindness Hera showed her even if Hera was slowly dying inside felt... horrible.
While Heaven was avoiding everyone at all costs and blamed her at every turn, Hera was trying to face the miserable reality they were in. Even with a tear in her eyes, Hera had kept her head high, regardless of the deep cuts in her heart. Hera was trying to embrace reality despite the sharp thorns around it.
Heaven would never match that woman.
Be it beauty, brawn, skills, heart, and even soul, she would never match. Yet, somehow, it didn’t feel insulting, nor did it feel infuriating. If anything, this truth might’ve hurt her but also saved her from going further into the prison in her mind.
"You are truly... so beautiful and tragic, Hera." Heaven mustered the courage to look at the door, nodding at it encouragingly. Despite the tears in her eyes, she forced a smile as she whispered, "I should’ve thanked you too... now, I have a new entry in my regret list."
How she wished she could also say Hera’s life was just as beautiful as her soul and existence.

When Hera left Heaven, she stayed idled outside after closing the door behind her. Her soft eyes fell on the floor, her jaw tightening, and her chest moving in and out heavily.
[Everyone cares, Hera. But they don’t care about me. They care about the Heaven they loved, not me. They care for you, not for me. And that... makes me feel I don’t belong in my body anymore.]
[Everyone is just worried about me. Axel would even peel the fruits he brought for me, telling me things I was not interested in. Do you think it’s easy to listen to Basti every time he says something that his mother taught him?]
[I wanted to show you that Hera can live, and the name Hera Cruel can have a future. I wanted to show you life, just like you showed me there’s a future for Heaven.]
[I don’t know where to go, who I am, and what to do.]
[I’m sorry... I... didn’t want to hurt anyone anymore.]
’I know, Heaven,’she mentally whispered. ’I know what it feels to be loved and cared for, knowing they love and care for someone else. That’s what I felt when I realized all of them called me Heaven, not Hera. And that that life is simply borrowed.’
’I also know what it feels to drown in this sea of confusion, not knowing what to do, where to go, or who I am. I know.’Hera slowly turned on her heel, facing the door squarely. ’Even now, I still have those questions in my head.’
’All I know is that whoever I am, wherever I am, and whatever I am going to do, I didn’t want to see them cry more because of me,’she mentally added, planting a hand on the door. ’I hope you find it in your heart that our children aren’t hard to love. In fact, it was even easier than breathing.’
A subtle smile slowly dominated Hera’s face. Just like Heaven, Hera knew her more than anyone. Heaven might be infuriating many times, but she wasn’t a bad person. If Heaven found it in her heart to embrace Hera’s life, she would be able to accept her life back.
After all, this was their rightful place.
Hera in her body, and Heaven in her own.
"Thank you," she whispered one last time, pushing herself from the door and walking away.
Hera’s every step felt heavier by the second, but she continued. Even when her breath slowed down until she couldn’t almost breathe, she continued. She had to. For herself, for her loved ones, and their future.
Everyone was better off without Hera Cruel in the picture.
’At least for now,’ she told herself. ’I’ll think about what I’ll do once I finish all the unfinished business.’
As Hera marched to the fire exit, her steps slowed down as she made a turn. Her eyes slowly fell on the little boy stepping out of the elevator. She held her breath, watching the little boy carry a book with him.
"Sometimes life’s timing can be awfully cruel, isn’t it?" she whispered, frozen on the spot. "Ah... shit."
