Chapter 1034: Life is beautiful, especially yours.
"It’s just that seeing me here as free as a bird took away all your justification for what you went through? You really are a piece of garbage, are you, Heaven?"
Heaven’s breath hitched, looking at Hera as tears slightly blurred her vision. She couldn’t disagree with her. She truly was a piece of garbage. To protect herself, she would hurt others and use her pain as justification. She would shun the world and blame everyone for not giving her enough ’consideration.’
And Hera came in here to pop the bubble she was in.
"I get it," Hera nodded. "I understand your father raised you like a princess. He loved you and never laid a hand on you. He taught you the world is beautiful if only you look on the brighter side. Looking and expecting others to suffer isn’t the brighter side, Heaven."
"You wanted me to suffer in Dragon’s hands like you did. Why?" Hera continued. "Because it will justify your actions and decisions. It would give you a chance to say it wasn’t that easy, and that you were helpless. And it would make you feel better."
"No!" Heaven denied through her tears. "That’s not it."
"No?" Hera scoffed. "Then, what, Heaven?"
"It’s..." Heaven’s breath hitched one more time, looking at Hera sharply despite her tears. "It’s... just... you’re wrong."
Hera waited for a few seconds, shaking her head mildly. "No, I’m not. No matter how much you twist the truth, I am correct. You are a piece of garbage and that’s not an opinion. It’s a fact."
Heaven looked away bitterly, wiping her tears with the back of her hands. "Go away," she muttered through her tears. "If you’re fine, then good for you. Why did you even come here? Do you think I want this? Do you think I’m happy? Were you expecting me to be celebrating to be back in this body?"
"You have no idea, Hera." Heaven mustered the courage to look back at her, glaring at her. "Everyone is just worried about me. Axel would even peel the fruits he brought for me, telling me things I was not interested in. Do you think it’s easy to listen to Basti every time he would say something that his mother taught him?"
"Everyone cares, Hera..." Heaven almost choked, but forced herself to speak more. "... but they don’t care about me. They care about the Heaven they loved, not me. They care for you, not for me. And that... makes me feel I don’t belong in my body anymore."
"I don’t know where to go, who I am, and what to do," she added through her tears, clasping her hair tightly. "These memories... I hope they didn’t exist in my head. They are so beautiful — it’s killing me because they’re not mine."
"But those memories in Basti and Axel’s were theirs," Hera spoke, pausing as she swallowed the lump in her throat. "Those memories aren’t just for you to hold on to."
Heaven slowly looked back at Hera, watching the latter stand up and sit on the edge of the bed.
"Don’t take it away from them, Heaven," Hera whispered, leaning closer to Heaven. "We’ve suffered enough and are already in pain. Don’t drag them into our struggles anymore, even if it kills you and me. You said those memories are beautiful and they are, but they won’t be without them in it."
"They’re innocent, Heaven." Hera’s voice cracked as the corner of her eyes turned red. "Don’t break them... just like how it breaks us."
Heaven sniffled, unable to look away from Hera. "I..." she hiccuped. "I’m... sorry, Hera."
"I wanted to show you that Hera can live, and the name Hera Cruel can have a future. I wanted to show you there’s life for you, just like how you showed me there’s a future for Heaven," she added through her tears. "I’m sorry... I... didn’t want to hurt anyone anymore."
"I know." Hera forced a smile, reaching for Heaven’s hand. "I know you’re not a bad person, Heaven. And knowing your thoughts while in this body is good enough for me."
"It’s not." Heaven shook her head. "Do you have any idea how bad this body’s fall was? You could have died because of me. And Joker too. This wouldn’t have happened if I listened to you."
"This wouldn’t have happened if I didn’t stay," Hera corrected. "You made your decision, and so did I. The damage had already been done and —"
"Dominic is dead," Heaven cut her off with a helpless voice. "Your husband is dead, Hera. The damage is far too great."
Hera pressed her lips, wanting to tell her Dominic was fine. However, she couldn’t. Dominic might not be dead, but he wasn’t fine either.
"I didn’t have to stay in Dragon’s clutches to suffer," Hera whispered, still holding Heaven’s gaze. "Waking up in this body is enough to hurt me in ways no one else can imagine. But... it’s still not the end for you and me."
Hera took a deep breath and squeezed her hand. "Don’t make me go down on my knees just to convince you not to hurt our children." She forced a smile, nodding at Heaven encouragingly.
"You failed and regret many things. Don’t add more regrets to that list," she added. "They are also your children, your family. Take care of them."
Hera and Heaven held each other’s gaze until Hera’s eyes softened. Hera slowly raised her hand, wiping Heaven’s tears with her thumb.
"My life is in your hands, Heaven," she snapped her eyes back to Heaven, smiling subtly. "Please. Do the right thing this time. I beg you."
Heaven chewed her lips as her tears continued to flood her face.
"I don’t blame you for making the decision you made as Hera," Hera expressed sincerely. "If anything, I admired your decisions and willingness to embrace Hera Cruel. However, Hera Cruel isn’t the way she is right now when she is young. It took me almost three decades to be the person I am. So, I wasn’t expecting you’d solve a three-decade of problems when you are just a few months in that body. You made a lot of mistakes, but this one isn’t your fault."
Hera nodded at her encouragingly. "Life is beautiful, especially yours. Thank you for existing, and I’m more than grateful that you shared a piece of that existence with me. It gave me something to hold on to."
"Live, Heaven," she added with a smile. "Live."
