Chapter 1028: Sad

Many people would find it hard to understand Tiger and Hera. A part of their hearts sometimes wished the other was dead, but the other part of their hearts couldn’t stand the thought. They had put each other in misery to save each other.

It was ironic and almost incomprehensible.

They wanted to take away each other’s pain because they couldn’t stand it. However, they wouldn’t support each other in doing what the other want. Because at the end of the day, what they wanted was something they shouldn’t even dream of.

[Call him. Tell him to stop, tell him you love him. Say everything you want to say. End it with him or cling to him. It doesn’t matter.]

[Don’t run away. Take responsibility. It was your fault that the poor man would do anything for you. You made him fall in love with you, so you have to take responsibility.]

Still sitting on the wide windowsill, Hera rubbed her thumb on the phone’s edges. Tiger left her, telling her he would be right outside her room if she needed him.

[I will stop you, even if that means I have to break your legs.]

"I feel trapped," she murmured, staring at the unnamed contact number on the screen. "Perhaps, Tiger was right. The only way I can gather myself is if I... face my fears."

A shallow laughter escaped her. "I used to tell them to face their fears, but here I am, hesitant. What a hypocrite." She pressed her lips, taking a deep breath as she closed her eyes. Determination shone in her eyes when she reopened them, tapping the call button without a second hesitation.

Hera stared at the screen as it rang, waiting for it to show the word ’connected.’While waiting, she wondered if she felt anxious waiting for it to be picked up or glad he wasn’t picking it up yet. When she thought the call wouldn’t push through, it was answered.

Hera swallowed the tension in her throat as she slowly put the phone in front of her ear. For a moment, there was only silence on the line. She could hear faint breaths from the other end of the line, gazing down as her lips opened and closed.

I’m sorry.

I missed you.

Are you okay?

I love you.

There were so many things she wanted to say and yet she didn’t know where to start. Should she put her heart out there immediately? Or would she tell him she seized Dragon to break the ice? Should she pretend she was okay and unbothered?

Myriads of thoughts hovered over her head, wondering what to say first. But before she could decide, a voice came through.

"Uhm... hello?"

Hera’s breath hitched as her eyes dilated upon hearing the adorable voice from the other end of the line. Tears instantly formed in the corner of her eyes, covering her mouth so as not to make the slightest noise.

"Hmm. My daddy told me someone would call on this phone," said Sebastian with a hum. "And that I should answer it. I don’t know why I have to answer the call, but he said it’s important."

Sebastian swung his feet back and forth, gazing at the phone when he heard nothing in return. Putting the phone back in front of his ear, he spoke again.

"Hello? Are you there?" he asked curiously. "Do you need my dad? Are you not going to talk?"

Hera bit her tongue as hard as she could, keeping her hand over her mouth. Tears continuously streamed down her face, sniffling hard as her nose started to run.

"Are you... okay?" Sebastian furrowed his brows. "Are you crying?"

Still, nothing.

All he could hear was silence and occasional sniffles.

"Are you in pain?" he asked once again, sighing. "Well, I’m also a little sad. My mommy always tells me not to talk to strangers, not that she has to tell me. I don’t even talk to the people I know. Hehe."

A brief smile turned up on Hera’s face, hearing him mischievously giggle.

"But... you sound like you are sad," he continued. "My daddy gave this phone to me, so I guess it’s not bad to talk to you."

Sebastian paused as he sighed once more. "My mommy told me being sad is alright and normal. Even crying is okay because not crying can be destructive. She said one would feel better after crying. So, I know you’ll feel much better once you finish."

"I don’t know what made you so sad, but everything will be okay!" he added cheerfully. "I know it will."

Hera forced a smile as she rocked her head, leaning back until the back of her head was against the jamb. She slowly put down her hand from her mouth, forcing a smile as she listened to the little boy comforting her.

"I feel like talking to myself. I don’t talk to myself — I end up arguing with myself," Sebastian remarked. "Don’t cry anymore, okay? If you need someone to talk to, just ring me. I know a lot of things to have fun. Bye-bye ~!"

Before Sebastian could end the call, he finally heard the person on the other end of the line saying, "thank you," quietly. He looked at the phone curiously, tilting his head to the side.

"Basti."

Just then, Sebastian heard a knock before the door opened. Looking up, he caught Princess stepping inside the playroom.

"Basti?" Princess furrowed her brows, eyes falling on the phone in his hand. "Who are you talking to and whose phone is that?"

"Dad’s," he shrugged, frowning as he looked at his phone. "My daddy gave it to me, telling me that someone would make a phone call and that I should answer. But that’s strange."

Princess carefully sat down across from him, darting her eyes between the phone and Sebastian. "What’s strange?"

"Someone called, but she didn’t say anything. She’s very quiet too."

"She?"

"The only word she said is, ’thanks,’ and it’s a woman’s voice," he explained and then asked curiously. "Uncle Princess, why do you think she’s crying? I wonder what made her so sad?"

Princess smiled meekly. ’The same reason your dad’s been sad.’
