Chapter 1027: You and me

More people arrived at the mansion every five minutes. Some arrived by a chopper, others by car. There were even those who came on foot. Most of them knew each other, but some of the arrivals were new faces. Faces they had never seen before except Hera. Fortunately, Hera provided them with a system to make the process easier. Since an enemy managed to sneak in amid the situation, the security tightened.

Hera watched everything from the window, sitting on the wide windowsill, that provided enough space for a person to sit on. Tiger, on the other hand, sat on the chair near her spot, wiping the blood off her hands.

"I talked to Princess," he said, breaking the prolonged silence between them. "She told me the kids are fine. Dominic raised more security around them and Basti also knew the news was fake."

Tiger glanced up, his eyes landing on her side profile. She still had her eyes on the window beside her, bearing no reaction or emotion.

"Should I keep talking about them?" he asked quietly. "Or does it only hurt you?"

"How was she?" Hera whispered emotionlessly after another minute of silence. "Heaven. Was she fine?"

"Mentally, she’s a mess. But, physically?" Tiger nodded, setting his attention to the gaps of her finger to continue wiping them. "It’s a miracle. From what I heard, she was supposed to be brain-dead and even if she woke up, she would have brain damage. But when she woke up, she had the energy to lose her mind. Though she was able to tell us the effects whenever you switched bodies before she went hysterical."

Tiger stopped wiping her hand, holding it and stroking the back of her hand with his thumb. "To be honest, I don’t know if that should make me feel happy."

"Heaven is Heaven and no matter what, I am Hera," she muttered, eyes still on the busy crowd in the wide landscape. "Everything in this world always falls to their rightful place. I should’ve known her body isn’t my place, and going back is inevitable."

"There should be a way," he remarked. "Heaven... doesn’t want that life."

"I also do not want this life." Hera slowly turned her neck to face him. "But here I am, and I have to suck it up. Do you think it’s unfair?"

Tiger opened his mouth but his voice was stuck in his throat. When he recovered his voice, he asked, "Then what now? Are you going to throw your life away?"

"Hah..." Hera let out a short chuckle, looking away from him. "Is that a surprise?"

No.

"You, of all people, know I was... relieved when they told me I was dying," she continued. "Although it was a shock, knowing I had a lot of things to do, I was glad my journey was nearing its end. Instead of fighting another batch of people who can kill me and my people, all I have to do is make sure they’ll be fine."

The side of her lips curled up a bit as her brows rose. "If I did it perfectly, there’s nothing else that can hold me back. Dying has never terrified me, but staying alive for a long time. And now, I’m... petrified because even if I want to, this brain and body are wired and built to keep me alive."

"Not just me or you or everyone in this place, but I know I can’t die yet," she added quietly. "Dom is still out there. God forbid what else he’s planning to do."

"Call him."

Hera paused, looking back at Tiger once again.

"Call him Hera." Tiger nodded encouragingly. "Tell him to stop, tell him you love him. Say everything you want to say. End it with him or cling to him. It doesn’t matter."

He pressed his lips into a thin line, massaging her hand with both his. "Hera, don’t run away. Take responsibility. It was your fault that the poor man would do anything for you. You made him fall in love with you, so you have to take responsibility."

"I don’t know how you’d make my nephew and niece understand, but right now, just don’t give a fucking damn," he continued under his breath, holding her eyes. "If I can, I would do anything to ease your pain. But I’m not the one you need, nor there’s anything else I can do to lessen the burden. Dominic can only do that."

"Don’t worry." He forced a smile. "I know you might end up running back to him. I know that because that’s what I do if I see or hear Ivy again. Just tell me what you want and what you have to do so you can do so you can do both. I won’t let you run back to Dominic without any solid plans."

Tiger slowly released her hand, pushing himself up from the chair. He sauntered toward the bed, picking up the phone he handed to her earlier. When he returned, he sat on the windowsill near her feet.

"You can call him without being scared of running back to him," he remarked quietly, taking her hand and placing the phone in her grip. "I will stop you, even if that means I have to break your legs."

Hera held his gaze with shaky eyes before her eyes fell on the phone in their hands. "Since when did you grow up?"

"Since that time, I realized the only thing I’m good at is making my sister hold back from getting what she wants," he replied, waiting for her to gaze up at him once again. "I was never the same since the time I realized the reason you cannot die even if you wanted to is because you blame yourself for putting us in this mess. You promised to protect us when you reached out your hand to those unlucky and unwanted children who were meant to die young."

Tiger slowly closed her hand into a fist, tapping on it as he locked eyes with her again. "I won’t let you victimize Dominic and those children. So... I’ll stop you and you will stop me from seeing her. It’ll be you and me... like always."

You and me... sounded like a shackle locking around their ankles and hands, keeping them bound in this miserable hell they were trapped in. Yet, those shackles were probably for the best to keep the monsters in them from terrorizing more innocent people.
