Chapter 1026: Somebody to a nobody
"Why?" Hera roared, clasping the man’s hair up and then smashing his face against the floor. "Don’t die! You haven’t finished your job! Why are you dying?! Why?! Why!? Why?!"
She smashed his head over and over until blood splashed on her. She was so angry that she didn’t notice the door flying open. Rushing inside were a few of her people who heard the gunfire coming from her room.
"Wake up!" Hera growled, seeing everything red. "Don’t die yet! Finished what you meant to do! Get up!"
"Boss!" One of the men called, only to stop when Wolf raised a hand.
For a moment, those who rushed to Hera could only watch her try to wake up the intruder by smashing his brains out.
"The hell?" Primo gasped in disbelief at the sight happening inside. "She lost it, did she?"
"Hera," Deborah called out worriedly, having this chill down her spine at the event unfolding right before her eyes.
Just then, Tiger, who rushed to the scene last, froze just like everyone else. However, instead of staying in their spot, he rushed stepped in, and sprinted to her.
"I said, wake up —" Hera halted when Tiger held her arm, looking up at him.
"That’s enough," Tiger forced out a breath. "Smashing his brains out won’t wake him up. Let him go."
Hera’s lips quivered as a thin layer of tears coated her eyes. Slowly, she released the man’s hair and heard his head thud one last time.
"Take his body and get the hell out," Wolf ordered, eyes fixed on Hera and Tiger. "Now."
The other men who came into a shocking scene gulped and nodded. They asked no questions, rushing toward the body and pretending Hera wasn’t there. They carried the body out, making Wolf, Primo, and Deborah make way.
"You too." Wolf faced the two. "Go."
"But —"
"I’ll go with you." Wolf nodded, casting Hera one more look. "Stay with her, Tiger."
Tiger didn’t respond as he held Hera’s gaze quietly. Wolf didn’t wait for his response as he faced Deborah and Primo, assisting them out and closing the door behind him.
"What the hell was that?" Primo asked in disbelief the moment they stepped out, pointing at the door, eyes on Wolf. "That woman... Hera... she’s not fit to lead the group, is she?"
"Wolf, is that the after-effects of all the drugs injected into her all these years?" Deborah followed. "You need to get her check — no, how did an intruder manage to come in? With all these people, how could he sneak in?"
Wolf darted his eyes between the two as they bombarded him with questions. For a moment, the only answer he could give them was a heavy sigh.
"This isn’t the first time someone managed to sneak in. She had plenty of enemies and they were all skilled people," he answered after a while, facing the door once more. ’But this is definitely the first time she has lost control.’
"Deborah, call for Moose. Tell him once he’s done checking Joker, check on her," he continued, making Deborah press her lips into a thin line. "Just stop asking about Hera for now. She’ll be fine... soon. Don’t forget, she just woke up. Everything is probably a shock to her."
"Well, everything is a shock to me too," Primo remarked sarcastically.
"Fine." Ignoring Primo’s sarcasm, Deborah rocked her head. "I’ll go see him."
As Deborah turned around, she glanced at Primo briefly. But she didn’t say anything, walking away to do something else. After all, they weren’t doing anything at the moment since everyone else was busy as more people arrived in the mansion one after another.
"What’s wrong with her?" Primo scoffed, rolling his eyes at Deborah and then back to Wolf. "What? You’re not going to tell me to go away, will you?"
"You said it yourself," Wolf returned. "The only reason you’re here is because you want to know more details before leaving. I don’t have to give you any order."
Primo raised his brows, and he rocked his head. "Also, you promised to lend me a chopper."
"Do whatever you want," Wolf remarked. "You don’t have to stay here."
"You don’t have to tell me. It won’t make me feel guilty." Primo slowly gazed at the door which Wolf had been staring at intensely. "Did she actually lose it?"
He slowly shifted his eyes to Wolf again. A moment of silence dawned on their shoulder as Wolf recalled a recent memory he had with Primo.
"Back then, you asked if she could save you," Wolf whispered, causing lines to resurface between Primo’s brows. "Do you know why I told you you’ll come to regret it back then?"
A bitter smile turned up on Wolf’s face as his eyes softened. "I said that not because she’s cruel or not worthy to follow. But because she does everything for her people. She helped all of us and had never turned her back on any of us, even if others betrayed her."
"However, the way she makes us so powerless whenever she falls apart is akin to torture. We can’t do anything but watch her fall deeper into the abyss," he continued under his breath. "We all wanted to be saved, and she did, but we can’t even do anything to save her."
"If we weren’t in her life, she wouldn’t be the person she had become," he added. "That’s why if I could go back in time, I would’ve just turned my back on her earlier, so there’s nothing to hold her back from becoming somebody to a nobody."
Primo stared at Wolf with furrowed brows, jogging his memory of what he was referring to. However, as far as he knew, Wolf was referring to Heaven when he said those words, not Hera.
"What the hell are you talking about, man?" Primo let out an awkward and short chuckle. "I think we weren’t on the same page at that time. I was talking about Heaven, not Hera."
Wolf didn’t answer, but he only cast Primo a look. Primo’s awkward smile faded, turning his head toward the door.
"That’s..." Primo trailed off, shaking his head mildly. "... impossible."
