Chapter 1022: Search
The members of the Reapers raised their weapons at the chopper descending into their territory. They stood on standby, ready to shoot once the first sign of danger appeared. However, as the chopper went closer to the ground, they saw the big man Fig in the cockpit. Thus, those on standby lowered their weapons. At the same time, the door on its side opened up.
It wasn’t hard to identify the person standing by the door, tossing out a rope and sliding down on it. The chopper hadn’t reached the ground, but Tiger already did.
"Tiger!" one of the men jogged his way to Tiger. "What are you —"
"Where is she?" Tiger growled, clasping the man’s chest and pulling him closer. "Where’s Hera?"
The man leaned back a little, sensing Tiger’s awful mood. "Chill, man."
"Don’t tell me to chill when you were so diligent in aiming your toys at us not long ago." Tiger ground his teeth. "I don’t know why Hera let you all live, but if it was me, I would have killed you all."
"We don’t have a choice, man." The man scorned, holding Tiger’s wrist. But Tiger only hissed.
Just then, Moose also landed through the same method Tiger did. He straightened his knees, casting Tiger and the man a look.
"Tiger," called Moose. "Let him go. They didn’t have a choice, and so we are."
Tiger ground his teeth even more, staring at the man, who was still wearing the same uniform they wore as Dragon’s men. His eyes fell on the man’s neck, catching a small sun tattoo on his throat, making him scoff in ridicule.
"You better peel that tattoo off your skin," he hissed. "Or I’ll peel it for you."
After saying those words, Tiger pushed the man away and started marching in the mansion’s direction. Much to his dismay, more men came to him and blocked his way.
"What the hell are you doing?" he roared, darting his eyes at the people before him.
"I’m sorry, Tiger," said one of the men. "I know you are a higher-up, but with everything that had happened, ranks don’t matter at the moment."
"What the hell are you saying?" Moose stopped a step behind Tiger. "Move away."
"You didn’t try to help Hera." The man Tiger almost assaulted spoke, standing a few steps away. "Just a few days ago, we were at each other’s throats. While it is true we let Dragon exploit us, we have a valid reason for it. We did what we think is right and for Hera’s sake. And we already proved that our loyalty will always be to her."
The man paused, watching Moose and Tiger look back at him. "But you haven’t."
"Haha..." Tiger let out a short laugh, in disbelief at their reason. However, Moose couldn’t blame them. They made sense and were simply following the protocols the Reapers had. In their eyes, they were the ones who didn’t help Hera.
"Are you questioning our loyalty?" Tiger scoffed in mockery. "Valid reason? You let that traitor use you while he does the unspeakable to her. If you are so loyal to her, why didn’t help her get out of there instead of watching Dragon disgrace her on the sidelines?"
"Tiger," Moose called, but Tiger ignored him.
"Stop me from seeing her, and I’ll kill you all. After all, I don’t have any more valid reason to protect those who betrayed her."
"We are not saying we will detain you," said the man, unfazed by the heavy threats Tiger spewed. "However, we have to search for you and tell her your request. Follow the procedure and we’ll be able to figure out this misunderstanding."
"There’s no misunderstanding here," Tiger argued. "You know me. I need to see her, and anyone who gets in my way will die. I promise you that."
As soon as those rolled out of his tongue, Tiger turned and faced the people blocking his path. He scanned them slowly, stretching his neck as he was closing to his boiling point. The people blocking Tiger, on the other hand, cast the man behind a quick look.
"Let him," said Moose to the man. "Even if he ends up a traitor, Hera will just kill him. You might be thinking of her safety, but she’ll find it insulting that you believe Tiger can kill her so easily."
"That’s not what I’m worried about," said the man, keeping his gaze on Moose before shifting his eyes to the other people in front of Tiger. "It’s the opposite. She might kill him in a fit of rage. Let him go and step into his demise."
The men nodded, making way for Tiger to go. Tiger wasted no breath, marching away to see Hera as soon as he could. Meanwhile, Moose stayed behind, eyes on the person in charge here for now.
"What happened to her?" asked Moose. "Did something happen?"
"Many things happened, Moose." The man sighed. "But strangely enough, she’s fine from the time she worked up until the time she returned from the Interpol. Until she watched that news."
"News?"
"The inauguration," explained the man. "I don’t know what riled her up, but you know when she loses control. It’s best to leave her alone. Those guys will search you. It’ll be a quick one, so please bear with it."
Moose rocked his head. "Help Fig out of there. I think he’s stuck."
The man slowly turned to the chopper as it had landed moments before. However, the pilot hadn’t stepped out even when he turned off the engine. He smiled subtly.
"I guess my captain gained a lot of weight," he said before casting Moose another look. "More people will come in here, so we will be busy identifying them and screening them."
"Need a hand?"
"It’s alright. We can handle it, but Joker probably needs your help."
"I’ll go to him." Moose nodded, and with that being said, he faced the men before him. He raised his hands and confessed to what to expect in their search. "A pistol in my back, a small knife in my shoes, and an improvised explosive in my hidden pocket at the hem of my pants. I’d appreciate it if you return them to me later."
"We will. I’m sorry. We all went through this, too."
Moose shrugged, slowly lifting his eyes to the mansion that brought a lot of memories from the past. "Well, it’s not the first time I’ve gone through this. I still remember how she stripped me naked the first time I arrived here. So, no worries."
"If there’s anything that I’m worried about is her mental state," he added, sighing once more. "You guys got no idea how crazy this situation is."
