Chapter 1020: What is justice? All I know is retribution
An hour later, Wolf and his party arrived in a mansion surrounded by acres of farming land. People already guarded the area; some were still even wearing the same uniform Dragon’s people had. Others were in casual clothing. There were very few who were still in their farming attire, talking to others as if they were just casually catching up with their old friend.
"We’re really back," Wolf whispered, seeing a familiar sight he had almost forgotten. "I can’t believe there isn’t a twist in this trip."
Tracy chuckled, looking back at the back seat. "Were you expecting us to kill you on the way once we got your trust?"
"You’ll never get my trust."
"But you slept so deeply in the middle of the trip. Victor and I couldn’t even sleep because you snore so loudly."
"My age had caught up," Wolf grumbled, ashamed of succumbing to sleep. "If this was before, I wouldn’t even blink."
Tracy chuckled in response as they stopped by the gates of the mansion. Victor only rolled down the window, telling the guard Wolf was with them. Wolf peeked his head out a little, waving at the guards. However, the guards simply cast Wolf a look before refocusing on Victor. Victor had his hands raised as the other guard slipped his rifle at him, ready to shoot if they weren’t part of the invited list.
When the other guard ran their faces in their system, he cast the other guard a look and nodded.
"I got scared for a second," Victor humored, putting his hand back on the steering wheel as they watched the gates open slowly. "The security here is much more scary than a military base."
"They won’t let us in even if they saw Wolf in the back." Tracy nodded.
"Even if you hadn’t stepped foot in here, you should’ve known if you’re not invited, you can’t get in." Wolf leaned back, stretching his stiff muscles. "Even if you’re with me or with another member, that doesn’t give you a pass. If anything, the member will just be in trouble. Whatever the reason, it’s breaking the house rules and compromising everyone’s safety."
Victor glanced at the rearview mirror. "That’s why she’s the one we chose to follow."
"Hah..." Wolf let out a short and airy laugh, rocking his head. He said nothing further, observing the area until their car stopped in front of the castle-like mansion. He looked at the main entrance before stepping out, huffing as he stood in the driveway.
"Home sweet home," he muttered, turning to Tracy and Victor.
"Wolf."
Just then, an armed man jogged down the stairs to welcome Wolf and his company. He glanced at Tracy and Victor, waving a hand for others to search the two.
"They’re safe," said Wolf to the person in front of him. "They were one of us."
"I know. I was told about it." The man nodded. "Our men would’ve shot them dead in the gates if they weren’t."
"Why are you searching them, then?"
"We just want to make sure. It’s been a long time since they were deployed for their mission. Anything can happen and people change," the armed man explained to Wolf while the latter nodded in understanding. "Once they’re cleared, they can go."
Wolf cast the two a look, only to see them holding their hands up while four people search every inch of their body.
"We’ll be fine," said Victor with a smile. "We’re told about it even before we went to the mission."
"She’s really making us go through this, just as what she said before." Tracy chuckled, but her tone was more amused than irritated.
Seeing that the two were fine, Wolf faced the man before him. "Where is she?"
The man tipped his head to the mansion behind him.
"I see." Wolf took a step forward, only to stop when the armed man touched his shoulder to stop him. "What?"
"Careful," said the armed man. "She massacred Dragon’s people and infiltrated the Interpol in one single night. I don’t think she’s in a good mood."
Wolf pressed his lips together and nodded. "I know. Thanks for the heads up."
With that being said, Wolf jogged his way to the several stairs heading to the main entrance. He passed by a few more soldiers but wasn’t stopped by them. Wolf had no problems going through the security, unlike Victor and Tracy.
When he reached the entrance and pushed the door open, he halted for a second. He took a deep breath and huffed it, stepping inside the entryway. The moment he did, he immediately saw several people scattered inside.
The people inside instinctively glanced at the door, and one of them was Primo. Wolf and Primo immediately locked eyes with each other but didn’t say a word. Sensing the gloomy air in the living area, deep lines appeared between his brows.
’What’s wrong with him?’ he wondered, catching the fire burning in Primo’s eyes.
"What’s going on?" Wolf asked. "Did someone die?"
"You bet," Primo clicked his tongue, cocking his head in a direction.
Wolf’s eyes followed the direction Primo pointed, only for his gaze to land on Hera’s back. She was standing in the middle of the living room, staring at the television motionlessly.
"Hera," he called quietly before his eyes veered to the wide television in front of her. Wolf squinted his eyes, realizing she was watching the news. However, it wasn’t just local news, but something that happened in another place.
His irises slowly dilated as his pupils constricted. He held his breath, reading the headline on the screen and listening to the reporter’s report.
"Dom..." he whispered in panic, shifting his eyes to Hera’s back. "Hera."
Hera didn’t move or react, keeping her eyes on the television as if her life depended on it. After showing the snippets of the chaos of the inauguration, Hera dragged her feet closer to the television. This time, they were showing a picture of Dominic taken during his campaign while the news reporter was reassuring the public the authorities were conducting a thorough investigation.
"... whoever did this unspeakable action will face justice..." said the chief police, as reporters flocked to their station.
"Justice," Hera whispered, reaching her hand out and grabbing the top of the television. "What is that? All I know is retribution."
Hera pulled the television down, jumping away as it fell to the floor. Everyone held their breath, staring at the shattered television and then at Hera with wide eyes.
The corner of her lips curled up a little as her eye twitched, staring down at the shattered television on the floor. "Now, no more bad news," she murmured, followed by a quiet chuckle until they slowly grew into a series of loud laughter — it sounded evil.
The longer her laughter echoed in every corner of the mansion, the clearer the horror they felt listening to it.
She snapped.
