Chapter 1018: Let him die
[BREAKING NEWS: SHOOTING DURING THE INAUGURATION.]
The news of the shooting during the inauguration shook the nation. The news outlet didn’t need to report it, because many who watched the live broadcast saw what happened before the broadcast was cut off.
Many were shocked and in disbelief; how could such a thing happen?
The event had the most important figures in their country. Hadn’t they put up more security parameters for such a thing to happen? Two ministers were fatally injured while the other was shot in the leg. However, it was still enough to alarm people.
"Goodness." An old grandma stood in front of the television, hands covering her mouth. "Surely, this world had become so dangerous. How can someone just shoot people down?"
"Tsk tsk tsk." Another old man in the old and small restaurant could only shake his head. "This is for sure a political problem."
"Probably, his competitor couldn’t accept that he lost!" another old man chimed in.
Most of the people in the small restaurant were old and thus, they went on to a full theory chatter. They would either blame Dominic’s rival or some more theory that made little sense. Others argued that it was the terrorists. Despite the deadlock arguments, one thing was for sure.
Things were bad.
The only young person at the small diner kept his eyes on the television without joining in the conversations. The corner of his eyes creased, briefly smirking as they showed some snippets of the shooting.
’Dominic Zhu.’Dane’s eyelids drooped. ’You know me very well, and that goes the same for me. I know you just as much as you know me.’
"Grandma, I’m off!" Dane announced, earning the attention of the old server. He placed a few folded bills on the table, standing from his seat to leave.
The old grandma rushed to him. "Young man, you shouldn’t be going around all alone. We think we’re under terrorist attack!"
"I’ll be fine." Dane smiled at the old woman.
"I’m just telling you since you said you live alone." The old grandma sighed heavily, knowing Dane for years as this young man had always dined in this place. He was the only young regular customer in this worn-out restaurant.
"Thank you. I’ll be extra careful, so you won’t have to worry." Dane maintained a smile, taking his wallet out to hand her a few more cash. "Grandma, I don’t think I could visit here more often."
"Huh? Why?"
Dane pressed his lips as he stared at her quietly. "I’ll go far away."
"Are you going abroad?"
"Mhm. There was a job offer for me. It’s a lot simpler and easier, and the pay is much higher."
"Is that so?" the old grandma sighed once more, putting the bills back into him. "Take care of yourself, hmm? Keep it. I heard life abroad is a lot tougher. You might need it."
"No, you should —"
"I’ll be alright." The old grandma patted his hand, making sure he held his money securely. "Just visit me when you have the time. This place might be old, but it won’t close down anytime soon. I’ll make you the warmest soup then."
His expression softened, nodding in understanding. "Alright then," he said, taking the money with him as he walked out of the establishment. As soon as he stepped out, he looked back at it once again. He pulled out his phone and marched across the street to where he parked his car.
"Burn it down," was all he said before he got into his car.
Dane remained in the driver’s seat for a minute before he heard some commotion from the restaurant across the street. When he turned, he saw smoke coming out of the restaurant and the elderly running outside with everything they could.
"Warmest soup..." he snickered. "It tastes like crap."
As flames started to engulf the old restaurant, Dane unhesitatingly stepped on the pedal to drive away from the scene. His job was over here. He only came back here to make sure Dominic was dead. Even if he didn’t die in the shooting, he already sent people to make sure he would never wake up.
"Dominic Zhu," he whispered, smirking. "If I were you, just stay dead. I won’t touch your children if you do, but I can’t say the same to your wife."

Imperial General Hospital
Heaven covered her mouth, wide-eyed. Axel also dropped the apple he was slicing, eyes stuck on the television as the news flash suddenly interrupted the drama they were watching. The news was about Dominic’s inauguration and that he was injured.
"Brother..." Axel breathed out, frozen on the spot. "... what... what’s going on?"
Heaven flinched when Axel suddenly rose from his seat. She quickly grabbed his arm on instinct, stopping him from leaving.
"Where are you going?" she asked.
"My brother was injured," he answered through his gritted teeth. "I have to see and know what happened."
"Axel, don’t."
Axel clenched his teeth, staring at Heaven, who was shaking her head. "Why?"
Why?
Heaven’s lips quivered, not knowing what to say. How could she say it would be too dangerous for Axel if he got himself involved? Even if she didn’t like Axel, Hera did. She already messed up many things for Hera; she couldn’t add more failures.
"Just... don’t," she forced out a breath. "It’s dangerous."
Dangerous? Since when did that word exist in her?
"Sis." Axel scoffed, pointing at the television. "Did you see what happened? I know you’re in no better shape, but aren’t you concerned about my brother? How can you say it’s too dangerous when it’s my brother in there?!"
"Axel —"
"I’m sorry, sis. I didn’t mean to raise my voice, it’s just that — never mind." Axel cleared his throat and forced a smile. "I’ll see what I can do. Don’t worry, okay?"
He bent down and peeled her hand from his arm, thinking Heaven was just still recovering and that she couldn’t think straight. What she needed now was a stress-free environment. Thus, even if it was futile, he reassured her.
"I’ll be back," he breathed out, nodding at her encouragingly. "Don’t watch the television for now."
"Axel, wait!" Heaven reached her hand out to him, but Axel rushed outside without looking back. She bit her lips, retrieving her hand slowly. She then turned her head to the television, swallowing down a mouthful.
"Even now... I can’t do anything." A thin layer of tears coated her eyes. "Please tell me this isn’t true."

The same prayers repeated in Axel’s mind as he rushed outside of the ward. In his head, he kept repeating the news was nothing but a hoax. It was not true. However, as he reached the lobby, he saw a group of doctors running outside as countless ambulances reached the driveway.
"No," he whispered, dragging his feet and stopping when his eyes landed on one of the patients being wheeled in. Despite the people surrounding the bed and a person on top of the patient currently resuscitating him, Axel would never mistake him.
Dominic.
"Brother..." he whispered, taking a few steps until he was jogging. When he got closer, his breath hitched as his complexion turned pale at the sight of blood. Tons and tons of blood.
"No, no, no!" he panicked, running beside the staff. "He’s my brother! Bro!"
"I’m sorry, Mister Zhu, we have to get the minister to the emergency surgery..." one of the resident doctors blocked Axel from going into the surgery room, telling him the procedures they had to do in one breath. "We’ll do our best. Just let us do our job."
Axel stood motionless as he kept his pair of blank eyes on the emergency door. When the resident doctor went inside, Axel staggered back until he collapsed on his knees.
"This is not happening," he whispered, shaking his head in denial. "Someone... please tell me I’m dreaming."
Dominic couldn’t be in this situation, but alas, when Axel saw Bear approaching, he knew this wasn’t a dream.
"Where is he?" Axel blurted out emotionlessly. "The person who shot my brother."
"He is in police custody — where are you going?" Bear held Axel’s arm to stop him from leaving. "Second young master."
Axel looked back at Bear with a plain expression. "I’ll just see him, so I know who I’m going after if something bad happens to my brother. Let me go." His eyes blazed, snatching his arm away, angry enough to hurt anybody who hurt his brother. But before he could go, he stopped at what Bear said.
"What did you say?" Axel looked back in disbelief, only to see Bear’s solemn front.
"Leave now, and everything your brother worked so hard for and all the sacrifices he made would go down the drain. This is what he wants," said Bear. "Let him die."
