Chapter 1011: Wants public apology
Chapter 1011: Wants public apology
[Interpol: Interrogation Room]
"He won’t talk." A man standing among a few men in the observation room kept their eyes on the mirror where they could see Wolf. "Someone like him won’t talk, no matter what. He’s trained for that."
Silence filled the observation room, wearing grim expressions. It had been days since they arrested the chief of the Central Intelligence, but even after that, they hadn’t gathered any useful information from him. Wolf would only talk nonsense, claim innocence without making an effort, or stay quiet.
No matter what the investigator used to him, nothing would come through Wolf.
"Reapers..." the middle-aged man crossed his arms under his chest. "If that’s true, then we need more evidence than we already had."
"Captain, I did what you told me." Just then, another man entered the room in a hurry. "That video file spreading in the underground is not Hera Cruel."
Everyone in the room turned to the other man from the computer crime unit.
"Look at her face. See these glitches on her jaw?" the man gave them a thorough explanation, showing them some photos from Hera’s video that had been circulating in the underground. "It was deep faked."
"Who is the person behind it?" asked another man in the room.
"We’re still working on getting the original video, but because of the software used — it’s a lot more complicated," explained the tech guy. "Whoever did this is a professional."
"Don’t the Reapers have Joker with them?"
The tech guy nodded, giving them a knowing look. "That is why it’s a lot more complicated and more work for us."
"If they had to fake a video to make it appear Hera Cruel is alive, does that mean she’s already dead?" a woman in the group wondered. "We’ve all known that woman and the Reapers. She wouldn’t fake something like that to threaten her enemies."
Everyone went silent once again while the interrogation on the other side was still ongoing. At the same time, the chief felt his phone ring, answering it upon seeing it was coming from the higher ups office.
"If she’s dead, why would her people try to make her look alive?" someone in the room wondered, continuing the discussion they were having. "It doesn’t make sense."
"Is someone else trying to frame a dead person?"
"She’s alive," said the captain, ending the quick phone call. "Hera Cruel reached out to the higher-ups. She wants to negotiate."
Deep lines appeared between their brows, looking at their captain with fire in their eyes. The captain, on the other hand, turned his head in the window solemnly.
"They said not to touch even the tip of that man’s hair," he breathed out, obviously displeased at the orders. "Until we catch her. He stays where he is."

Wolf leaned back against the chair, darting his eyes between the two detectives, who just come back after being called from the observation room. He arched a brow, intrigued by the reason the detectives were called out. Situations like that only had a few reasons: one was they were getting scolded or the other reason was that they got new information.
"You looked intrigued," said the female detective. "Do you want to know why we were called out?"
"Did you get a word that you got the wrong man?" Wolf cocked his head to the side. "It’ll be a huge problem for you, because I’ll make sure someone has to pay for tarnishing my years of unblemished service."
"No, actually, we just got a word to make sure you’ll rot behind bars." the woman smiled.
"You had nothing on me." Wolf shook his head. "The mere evidence you got was a misleading photo and a tip."
"Do you actually believe that we hadn’t been investigating this case for years?" the other detective spoke, standing in the corner, back against the wall, arms crossed underneath his chest. "We had enough on you, Wolf."
Wolf chuckled, shrugging. "I wish you luck, then."
"If you’re innocent, as you claimed, Hera Cruel won’t reach out to make a deal," the detective revealed, observing the slight change in Wolf’s expression.
"Hera Cruel?"
"You’ve worked in the CIA for years. I’m sure you know that name very well, even if you aren’t associated with her."
"I know that name, and I also know she’s dead," Wolf stressed. "Our agency confirmed that."
"Well, apparently, she’s not dead." The detective in the corner spoke. "She’s on her way... or rather, she probably has already taken the bait."
A moment of silence fell in the interrogation room as both detectives observed Wolf’s aura. The latter slowly peeled his back from the chair, resting his handcuffed hands over the table.
"That’s impossible," said Wolf.
"Because she’s dead?"
’No,’was what he wanted to say. ’Because the Hera Cruel everyone knew was in another person’s body.’
Wolf furrowed his brows as he lowered his gaze. ’Unless... she’s back in her body.’
"If you tell us everything now, our defense attorney might give leniency," said the female detective. "Perhaps, an immunity if you talked about everything you know about Dragon, the Sun Organization, and the Reapers."
"You said I know Hera as a man who worked for the Central Intelligence," Wolf remarked, lifting his eyes to the female detective sitting across from him. "Isn’t that the same for the Interpol and Feds? There is a reason Hera Cruel isn’t behind bars all these years."
"As shameful as it may sound for all of us, she’s someone we don’t want to mess with," he continued. "I’m giving you a piece of my expertise. She’s not the one taking the bait. You are."
Wolf pushed himself away, keeping his eyes on the detective. "I’m expecting a public apology the second I step out of this place for tarnishing my name and years of hard work."
The detectives kept their eyes on Wolf before casting each other a look. After a while, they left the interrogation room with grim expressions.
"He’s confident," said the woman, glancing back at the door. "More confident he would get out of here in no time."
The man with her also looked at the door. "The captain was listening to everything. I’m sure he already gave a heads-up."
"Would it be a bloodbath?" she asked, only to make her partner shrug.
"She knows the law more than any judge," he answered. "Killing is the last resort. She’s going to play with the law and politics first."
Both detectives looked at each other knowingly, because what Wolf said was nothing but the truth. As shameful as it was, Hera’s existence was mere proof of their incompetence. Not that they weren’t doing their best, but catching this particular felon was akin to a farfetched dream.
Hera’s influence and power are rooted deeply not just in the underground, but also in government agencies. And she would prove that in no time.
