Chapter 1012: Already got him, did you?

[Interpol: Main Headquarters — Lobby]

’Ah, shit!’Primo mentally freaked out the moment they stepped into the Interpol’s territory. He looked back, ready to make a run for it, but to no avail. The doors locked down, giving them no chance of an exit. Armed men gathered around, though not in an offensive manner. Their aura, however, showed signs of hostility.

’This is insane! I thought Heaven was already crazy, but this woman is unhinged!’Primo glared at Hera. ’I shouldn’t have let her drag me here! Why did I even tag along!?’

Deborah and Hunter’s expressions were dark, standing motionless behind Hera. When they heard she would be going straight to Interpol’s headquarters, a myriad of thoughts ran through their heads. But when she asked them to come with her, they couldn’t find the courage to say no.

They asked her, though.

They wanted to know why she kept taking them with her, only to hear her say staying close to her was the safest place. Which explained why they were in the middle of Interpol’s lobby, surrounded by trained and elite agents of a worldwide government agency.

Hera Cruel.

Surely, this name didn’t stand out in the underground for no reason. Her name would definitely go down in the history of the underground, Interpol, Central Intelligence, and even the FBI. She was the only person in history who would put herself in such a situation and show no fear.

"What a warm welcoming party. I didn’t expect such a grand welcome." Hera’s eyes veered to an old man several meters from her. "Where is he?"

A glint flickered across the old man’s eyes. "Hera Cruel."

"On the flesh."

"Hah! Did you think you could simply barge in here and demand whoever you want?"

"Timothy Pratt," Hera called hands inside her long black coat. "Where’s Wolf?"

"He’s not going anywhere." The old man shook his head. "Just like you and your accomplices won’t go anywhere."

His lips curled into a smirk. "This place is in a lockdown. All employees were sent away to —"

"I was told that I can talk to the person the General Assembly elected," Hera cut off the old man mid-sentence. "Are they testing the limitations of my patience?"

"Hah!" the old man scoffed. "Hera Cruel, you are a felon and with all your crimes, you’d spend the rest of your pathetic life in prison. We’ll see if you can still act so cocky after you are arrested."

Hera shrugged, making the old man, Timothy even more agitated.

"Arrest her! They’re only four of the —"

BANG!

A loud bang resonated in everyone’s ears, catching many of them off guard except for Hera. Primo even shut his eyes and defended himself, only to realize he was still alive. When he peeked over his eye, he caught Timothy’s body lying in his pool of blood.

"What in the world...?" Primo gasped, lifting his eyes to the person who shot Timothy dead.

"I’m sorry about that, Miss Cruel." There, stepping over Timothy’s body, was a man in his late thirties. "I knew this would’ve happened and thankfully, I was just around the area."

Unlike the old Timothy Pratt, this man exuded a different kind of air around him. He looked sophisticated and knowledgeable; the men around him only showed a brief surprise at the man’s appearance more than his brutal action toward his people.

Deborah, Hunter, and Primo furrowed their brows as they set their eyes on the man. This time, they were even more cautious.

This was the boss of the Interpol.

"Elliot Dunkel," said the man almost poetically. "The man you’re looking for."

"Anyone else above you?"

"The General Assembly." Elliot smiled. "But if you want someone else who is above them, then we can pray together and try to reach God. Do you know how to pray, Miss Cruel?"

"You bet I do." Hera raised her brows knowingly. "I won’t have the confidence to hear people’s last prayers if I don’t. That would be too shameful. I’m no hypocrite."

"Just as I heard. Miss Cruel has a great sense of humor."

"I hope you also know what else is great about me."

"Absolutely." Elliot nodded, glancing at everyone. "I know you do not like the setup, but it’s the only way we can protect ourselves."

"You only need to protect yourselves if you give me the slightest reason." Hera shrugged, glancing at the people around. "Are you going to keep me here for long?"

"Of course not." Elliot motioned his hand. "Rest. Miss Cruel is not our enemy... for the next one hour. Even a felon like her still has human rights."

"This is what I like about the law so much. So many rights."

The faces around turned even darker, but Elliot managed to maintain an amicable appearance. "Follow me, Miss Cruel. I guarantee your safety for the next hour, so I hope we can discuss everything and end it on a good note."

"So do I."

With that being said, Hera followed Elliot to a large conference office. Hunter, Deborah, and Primo followed closely. Elliot’s men also followed, escorting them as if their boss just didn’t kill one of their men.

Only Hera and Elliot took a seat on the enormous oval table of the conference room.

"Don’t be shy," said Elliot, casting Hera’s company a look. "You may take a seat."

"We’ll stay on standby," Deborah immediately remarked, glancing at the other men guarding the place around. "It’ll be hard if someone suddenly puts a gun at the back of our heads."

"As you pleased." Elliot nodded, watching the three move back until their backs were inches from the wall. "So, it’s just the two of us, Miss Cruel. Shall we start?"

"Give me Wolf," Hera demanded without beating around the bush.

"I can’t just release him, considering the word had spread out immediately. Covering it up is impossible." Elliot tapped his fingers against the table. "You should at least give me something else in return if I do the impossible, Miss Cruel. I believe you already know that."

"Who do you want?"

"You." Elliot leaned forward, linking his hands together on the table. "Will you take his place, Miss Cruel?"

"No."

"Well, I don’t think there’s anyone else who is worthy to take his place aside from you."

"Even if I say yes, you won’t have the means to keep me locked up." Hera wiggled her brows playfully. "I can get out. You know that."

Elliot rocked his head, a little speechless at her remarks. It was the truth, though. Hera’s connection and control were still under investigation. But even without concrete proof, everyone had a vague idea that she wouldn’t have the nerve to come in here with only three people to guard her security if she didn’t have cards up her sleeve.

For instance, she might have more people in the Interpol than expected.

"Dragon," Hera spoke once more, shattering the building silence in the room. "I’m sure you know him, and catching that guy is like a limited edition luxury perfume spray on the name of the Interpol. I’ll give him to you now and a follow-up freebie — the Sun Organization."

Elliot arched a brow as he slowly leaned back. "You think those two are enough? Miss Cruel, Wolf worked in the CIA for years. He knows too much information, which also means, you know all of them."

"Who said Wolf is my guy?" Hera cocked her head to the side. "I’m only interested in him and everything he knows. I might find something interesting. For instance, a dirt on you?"

"You are not convincing me, Miss Cruel."

"I’m not here to convince you. I’m here to get what I want, and I want Wolf." She shook her head, leaning forward slowly. Despite the distance between them, the length of the table felt smaller and smaller until it felt like they were only an arm’s length from each other.

"Elliot Dunkel, are you going to give me Wolf or not?" she dawdled. "I would like an answer now."

Elliot didn’t answer immediately, observing her sharp expression before the corner of his lips curled up. "You already got him, did you? And this... is nothing but a trap, isn’t it?"

Slowly, Hera’s smile reached her eyes.
