Chapter 101: Pillow talk

"Hmm?" Heaven wearily opened her eyes, catching a pair of eyes staring at her from the side. "You’re back?"

Heaven blinked and blinked before rubbing her eyes. "Did you have dinner yet? Wait. I’ll make you..." she trailed off as a finger pressed on her forehead, pushing her back when she tried to get up.

"I already had dinner, so sleep some more," said Dominic, smiling.

"You did?" her voice was coarse, displaying her exhaustion.

"Mhm. A few hours ago."

"A few hours ago." She frowned. "You mean lunch?"

"Dinner. Do you know what time is it now?" Dominic moved his knuckles from his temple to his jaw. "It’s almost midnight."

"Huh?" Heaven furrowed her brows before her eyes went wide.

"Haha. You fell asleep in Basti’s room, so I carried you back here," he explained, guessing she already recalled where she fell asleep.

"Oh..."

"So, sleep some more. You’re tired."

"How about you?" Heaven blinked ever so tenderly. "Aren’t you going to sleep?"

"In a bit — I’m not sleepy."

Her body relaxed, dragging her sore body to face him. She wordlessly moved closer, slipping her hand in between his arm and waist.

"So warm," she murmured, burying her face in his chest. "Let’s sleep, Dom. You’re tired too."

He was not.

"Mhm." He stroked her back gently.

Hugging as they sleep just gradually became natural. Dominic didn’t feel any awkwardness anymore, as if they were truly a couple since day one. Not that he wanted to think of the past anymore because he simply wanted to accept the present.

"Are you sleeping now?" his quiet and husky voice caressed her ears softly.

"Not yet," she whispered, eyes closed.

"Why?"

"I was thinking about how your day went."

"It was... alright. Much better than I thought." — considering he and Sebastian agreed to share her.

"I see." The corner of her lips curled up, sighing in relief.

"How about you?"

"Hm?"

"How was your day?"

Heaven chuckled weakly. "I missed you, obviously," she humored, half awake.

"Did you?" His eyes shone with affection as he gazed down at her.

"Mhm. And I hit the gym — I can barely feel my legs."

"Do you want me to massage them?"

"No." Heaven opened her eyes, drawing her head back, and then she looked up at him. "Are you serious?"

"Do I sound like I’m not?"

Another wave of chuckle slipped past her lips. "It’s just weird. That’s all."

"How is it weird?"

"Because... you are Dominic Zhu."

Huh?

Dominic didn’t understand her answer, furrowing his brows. Seeing the cluelessness plastered on his face, Heaven couldn’t help but laugh.

"How cute," she commented as her chuckles faded.

"I don’t understand why it is weird just because I am who I am."

"Are you really that clueless?" she clicked her tongue. "Isn’t it weird to think that Dominic Zhu, the man at the helm of the LYON Group, is massaging his wife’s feet at home?"

"So?"

Heaven sighed before giving up, resting her head on his chest. She pulled his body closer, clutching at his back as she closed her eyes.

"What I’m saying is even I couldn’t imagine my husband massaging my feet," she explained for the last time, knowing leaving him hanging would bother him. "My husband is amazing, after all. I saw the news today."

"View Park District will be amazing for sure," she added under her breath. "Congratulations. You worked hard."

Dominic didn’t respond, as he didn’t know how to respond. He could only stare down at the woman embracing him before a soft smile appeared on his face.

"At this point, we’re truly like a married couple," he blurted out.

"Aren’t we married?"

"I know," but then again, this marriage was simply a marriage of convenience. Dominic kept the rest of his sentence to himself. Even so, it stuck to him.

This marriage was loveless for the first five years. Heaven hated him, and even though he didn’t share the same sentiments, he was nonchalant. They were together for their child. Nothing more, nothing less.

Dominic didn’t have hopes for love. Not that he was experienced, as he never felt that sort of thing to anyone, even to his wife.

But now...

Dominic kept his gaze on her as he listened to his heartbeat. It wasn’t racing, nor was it skipping a beat. His heart was beating normally, but there was this feeling he couldn’t just ignore.

Peace.

He felt at ease with her in his embrace.

His gut feeling about sensing good things would happen truly happened. Her change was the biggest factor, and his willingness to give her the benefit of the doubt came in second. Those two factors... gave this marriage some hope.

"Are you sleeping now?" he asked once again, lowering his hand from his jaw and resting his head on the pillow.

Dominic still waited for her to reply, only to notice her deep breaths. Yet, he didn’t feel annoyed, as if he had seen that coming. She was exhausted after all, but not him.

’These days... everything felt easier,’ he thought, realizing how his days were going by without him getting bored.

He was still doing the same amount of work. Although he would stop at seven or eight in the evening, that didn’t mean he was doing less work in the day. However, he didn’t feel exhausted or drained — not even stressed.

Back then, every time he would lie on the bed, he would sleep instantly. That was because he was already at his limit. Sleep... was not fond of him.

’Perhaps the only difference these days is I am always in a rush to go home.’ He blinked, planting his palm on the back of her head. ’I don’t pray much, but I pray you stay this way, Heaven. Let’s not go back to those horrible days.’

As Dominic closed his eyes, he muttered. "Right. I forgot to tell her about the bodyguards I hired." — never mind. He would just tell her tomorrow.

With that thought in mind, Dominic slowly succumbed to sleep with his wife in the safety of his embrace.

Not only his days were easier, but his nights were as well. Ever since their relationship had gotten better, he slowly appreciated the importance of sleep. Not just him, but Heaven appreciated every second of her sleep without worrying someone would sneak in to assassinate her.

And just like that, another peaceful night in the Zhu Mansion passed by without a hitch.
