Chapter 100: [Bonus Chapter]Alliance
"Welcome back, Master." Mrs. Deng welcomed Dominic with a smile, taking his briefcase. "How was your day –"
"Where are they?" Dominic abruptly stopped the head maid’s sentence with his question.
"Huh?"
"My wife and son. Where are they?" Dominic looked around, but couldn’t see even their shadows.
These past few days, that had been his first questions to Miriam. It just so happened Mrs. Deng was the first to welcome him after her time off.
"The young madam and the young master?" Mrs. Deng furrowed her brows. Her cluelessness brought a frown to his face.
"Never mind." Dominic didn’t dwell on the head maid’s obliviousness. He didn’t want to waste his energy in talking to her, knowing she had been away because of an emergency in her home.
"Master, the young master, and the madam were in the young master’s room." Before Dominic could go to the kitchen where she would normally stay at this hour, a servant who came to welcome him back spoke.
He stopped, eyes on the servant. "I see. Did they have dinner?"
"The young master did, but the madam told us to call her once you’re back." The servant nervously relayed Heaven’s message. "However, when I went to the young master’s room, he said not to disturb them."
"I see." Dominic’s face darkened at the thought. "Don’t bother. I’ll just fetch her myself. Thank you."
Dominic didn’t idle, taking large steps to the stairs. Meanwhile, Mrs. Deng furrowed her brows and glared at the servant.
"What do you think you’re doing?" Mrs. Deng berated. "Are you trying to make me look bad in front of the master?"
"Mrs. Deng." The female servant pressed her lips into a thin line, lowering her head. "That’s not what I was trying to do."
"Goodness! You people these days surely don’t know your place!" Mrs. Deng harrumphed, storming away to put Dominic’s suitcase in his office.
As the head maid left, fuming, the other servants looked at each other. They sighed, thinking their days wouldn’t be as peaceful now that she was back.

Knock Knock
Dominic knocked on Sebastian’s room lightly, but no one was answering him. His expression turned hard before he announced.
"I’m coming in." He held on to the knob for several seconds, waiting for someone from inside to open it. But no one did. Not Sebastian or even Heaven.
Displeased at the thought of being left out, Dominic slowly opened the door. When he stepped in, he immediately turned his head on the bed. There, on the bed, were Sebastian and Heaven.
She was lying on the edge of the bed, her back facing him. His frown deepened as she didn’t move, thinking she was ignoring him. Realization quickly dawned on him as soon as he caught her side profile. Her eyes were closed; she had fallen asleep with her hands holding her cheek while her other hand was on top of Sebastian’s tummy.
’I see.’Guilt tugged his heart at how his mind quickly jumped to an unpleasant conclusion. His wife and son were sleeping, or rather, Heaven had fallen asleep while Sebastian was just pretending.
Sebastian slowly opened his eyes, coldness was shining in them the second he met his father’s eyes. He lifted his finger to his lips when Dominic’s lips parted.
"She’s tired after hitting the gym," Sebastian hushed, turning his head to the side where she fell asleep. "She said she will tuck me in, but she fell asleep before me."
Dominic studied his wife. Her position seemed a little uncomfortable, as her body was on the edge of the bed. His son wasn’t lying. Based on her position alone, it seemed she was trying to lull Sebastian to sleep, but she fell asleep instead.
’Considering we were in a sexual liaison, she’s already tired before hitting the gym. Moreover, she didn’t have any activity for the last five years. That explains her low stamina,’ he thought, nodding in understanding.
"I’ll carry her back to our room," Dominic announced as he approached the bed. But before he could bend over to pick her up, Sebastian rested his hand on her hip.
The father and son looked at each other sharply.
"Sebastian Zhu."
"You should let her be," said Sebastian, unfazed by his father’s tone. "If you move her, she will wake up. Let her sleep in my room so she can rest."
"You understand you cannot fit in that bed, do you?" Dominic narrowed his eyes. "Are you saying you’d let her sleep in that position?"
Sebastian kept quiet, as his father had a point. Even if he scooted over to the side, Heaven would still have to sleep on her side. He might want to hog his mother all for himself, but not at the cost of her discomfort.
"I’ll carry her then," he blurted out, sporting a solemn look.
"You?" Dominic furrowed his brows. "How?"
How could a four-year-old carry a grown woman? Sebastian must’ve known how ridiculous his idea was; he was a smart kid. Why would he suggest something so foolish? Something so out of character.
There was only one reason.
"Basti." Dominic sighed as he slowly sat down on the little space on the edge of the bed, moving Heaven’s leg slightly. "I know you see me as a rival for your mother’s affection. However, competing will only make her sad."
"I thought about it the entire day. If we keep this up, it might make her run away instead," he continued. "We don’t want her to think we are falling apart because of her, do we?"
Sebastian pressed his lips into a thin line.
"Instead of rivalry, we should unite. We both don’t want her to run away and to prevent the worse, we should work together," Dominic proposed, offering his hand for a handshake. "Let’s team up. Her days are yours, but nights are mine. Deal?"
The father and son held each other’s gaze. Sebastian thought about what his father said, and he was right. If they kept competing for Heaven’s attention, it might overwhelm her. He was still planning a perfect escape plan for her, so if she wanted to run away, this was not the time yet.
"If you break your promise, the alliance is over," Sebastian remarked before holding his father’s hand for a handshake.
"That applies to the both of us." Dominic smiled in satisfaction as if he just closed the biggest deal of his life. "I’m looking forward to working with you."
"I can’t say the same."
