Chapter 102: I think she likes my husband

[Heaven, is everything okay? I saw you posted on your page and I’m worried. Won’t Mr. Zhu get angry? Please tell me everything is alright. I know our last meeting ended on a bad note, but I still care for you! You don’t know how worried I am.]

Heaven smacked her lips as she read her ’best friend’, Paula’s message. The latter sent a few more, repeating how worried she was about Heaven.

’She knew there’s nothing to worry about, but she still made it sound like my husband will kill me.’Heaven rolled her eyes, putting her phone on the vanity mirror to dry her hair. As she did, she glanced up when Dominic entered the walk-in closet after showering.

The sight of him put a smile on her face, almost forgetting her friend’s messages.

"Dom, about tomorrow... are we still going?" she asked while Dominic stood in front of the closet to get his clothes.

"It’s your call."

"Will you go if I don’t?"

"No."

"You won’t even drop by?"

"I don’t have work tomorrow. I’d rather stay in if we’re going to stay in."

"Oh..." Her lips were drawn into a thin line, but the corners of her lips were curled up.

"Why?" Dominic looked back. "You want me to go alone?"

"I just thought we should go."

His brows furrowed. "Are you sure? No one’s forcing you."

"I didn’t say I was being forced," Heaven chuckled as she faced the mirror to do her morning skincare. "I just didn’t want to make Grandma sad. Besides, it’s been a while since I went to one. It wouldn’t hurt to go."

Dominic kept his eyes fixed on her figure, shrugging. "Like I said, it’s your call," he said, turning his face to the suits in front of him.

"By the way, do you have plans for today?" he asked after a moment of peaceful silence between them.

"I haven’t thought about it. Why?"

"Nothing. I just thought I’ll take you to the office today."

Heaven paused, twisting her neck in his direction. "Where?"

"To my office." Dominic looked back at her, only to see the surprise plastered on her face. "Why are you surprised?"

"To your office? Why?"

"I hired a few bodyguards, and I thought you should be the one to choose who will be your bodyguard," he explained as he casually took out a suit. "Mr. Zhang recommended one, but I want to hear your thoughts about it."

"..." Heaven was puzzled for a moment, watching him take off the upper part of his robe to wear his inner suit. "What are the bodyguards for? Is there something wrong?"

"For my peace of mind. As cliche as this may sound, prevention is better than cure." Dominic cocked his head back to her. "You’re still a Zhu, Heaven. And I want to prevent what happened the other day from happening. Basti was safe, thankfully, but there’s no telling next time."

Heaven bit her inner lower lips, thinking how she disliked being guarded at all times. In her previous life, capable assassins surrounded her. Her life was in danger 24/7 and although she got used to it, she already had a taste of not being watched anymore.

"Well, if it’s just one." Heaven shrugged, understanding where he was coming from.

Regardless of her opinion, she was willing to compromise. After all, Dominic had a point. Having a bodyguard back then for her wasn’t necessary, since she rarely stepped out of her room. But now, things were different.

The Zhu Family was a household name in the country. No matter a person’s standing, people had at least heard of this family at least once in their lives. With that fact laid on the table, it wouldn’t be a surprise the members of the family could be the target of a horrible plot for ransom. People would do anything for money, after all.

"I’ll try dropping by in your office," she added nonchalantly, putting on a pair of earrings with small pearls.

"I can simply ask Dane to bring them here."

"It’s alright since I’m thinking of meeting Paula, anyway."

Dominic paused as soon as he heard the person’s name his wife was going to meet. He looked back at her, only to see her doing her morning routine like usual. His lips parted but then shut closed again.

"Have fun," was all he said, keeping his thoughts in his mind.

Little did he know, Heaven noticed the slight change in his tone. She looked at him through the mirror, elevating her brows.

"Dom, don’t you want me hanging out with Paula?" she asked, choosing transparency over silence.

"It’s not like that. She’s your friend, so how can I dislike her?"

"Well." Heaven shrugged. "It’s just that I’m having second thoughts about our friendship."

He stopped, brows furrowed. "Why?" he asked, intrigued.

In the past, Paula was the only person his wife would talk to. She was the only person — besides Miriam — that could go in and out of Heaven’s room. That was the very reason Paula Shen could go in and out of the mansion anytime she pleased. It was also the very reason Dominic helped Paula to grow her stagnant career.

Regardless of his growing concern about Paula’s attitude, he let everything slide for his wife.

So, what was his wife saying now?"

"I don’t know." Heaven flashed him a grin. "It’s just sometimes... I think she likes my husband. It’s annoying."

So, that was the reason.

Heaven’s reasoning might be different from what he expected, but it still made his heart pound. Dominic wordlessly marched in her direction, making her brows raise. He stretched his arm, pulling her waist without prior notice.

Heaven planted her fists on his chest, wide-eyed. When she looked up at him, all she saw was Dominic tilting his head as he lowered it. She shut her eyes when she felt his lips on hers, clutching his chest as he smothered her with kisses.

"Mhm!" she moaned in protest, gasping for air as she pulled her head back. "What is that for?"

Dominic thought of the correct term. "Reassurance."

"Huh?"

"What you said is nonsense, but still, I felt the need to reassure my wife," he explained under his breath, making him appear dashing at the little innocence in his eyes. "Even if it makes zero sense, I somehow, strangely enough, liked the idea you are concerned about such a matter."

’You mean he liked it when I’m jealous?’ not that she was jealous of Paula, knowing Dominic wasn’t desperate. Even if Dominic would become a scummy cheater, Heaven was certain he would have better standards.

"Gosh. You didn’t have to do that." Heaven coquettishly raised her arms, wrapping them around his neck.

He smirked. "You don’t like it?"

"Do you really have to ask that? How mischievous," she murmured, closing her eyes as he lowered his head once more, lifting her waist as he sat her down on the table of the vanity mirror.

"Be gentle," she whispered into his mouth before he nibbled on her neck.

"Don’t worry." Dominic bit her earlobe, slipping his hand underneath her robe. "I’ll make it quick."

As if!

Heaven didn’t have time to rebut his remarks, allowing him to untie her robe for a quick round of passion. Surely... this had become a part of their morning routine. A pattern they were addicted to.
