Chapter 1009: Brewing omen

"Don’t worry. That Hera you met before is possessed. It was the devil’s talking. This body is back to its old management."

Hera smirked while the three could only look at her with equal disbelief and surprise. She arched a brow, glancing over her shoulder.

"They’re almost done," she muttered, snapping her eyes back to them. "Anything else you want to tell me?"

"That’s all we know," Primo snapped. "If Fig’s recovery is relevant information, then he was fine. Though the last time we spoke, he was reconsidering doing a healthy diet."

"I’m glad he’s fine." Hera nodded in understanding, raising her eyebrow once again upon sensing the look Primo was giving her. "I saw him get shot before I fell unconscious."

Or rather, the soul occupying this body not long ago.

"Where are they?" she asked, curious. "Those guys, I mean."

"I won’t tell you." Primo motioned his hand across his mouth, showing her a zipping action. "I might’ve risked my life to rescue you, but that information is something I would take to the grave."

"Did you tell Ram?"

"Hell no!"

"Good." Hera nodded in satisfaction. "Because if you did, I’m going to snap your neck right here and now."

"What?"

"You said you’d take that information to the grave," she explained. "Your wish is my command. What’s the use of having you around if you’re useless?"

Primo scrunched up his nose in dismay, only to realize how comfortable she was talking down to him. One could assume she treated everyone like this. However, there was this distinct difference, as if she knew him more than she should.

"By any chance... do you know me?" Primo asked, not expecting any answer from her.

"Alexander Cafre," she answered. "You’re quite famous back then."

"I am?"

"Mhm."

"Really?" Primo scratched the back of his head, a little flattered by that compliment. His smile, however, was short-lived and was instantly replaced by a cautious look. "Why? What did I do to get your attention before? You don’t hold a grudge against me, do you?"

Hera chuckled, almost taking them aback at how different her laughter was compared to her intimidating tone. She shook her head, casting Primo this inexplicably amused look in her eyes.

"You’re silly," she said, and at the same time, she heard people marching back inside the lobby. Hera slowly turned around, waiting for everyone to enter the manor.

Curious, the three also turned their heads to the lobby. Much to their dismay, as some soldiers returned, they tossed severed pairs of pinkies in the front. Deep lines appeared between Deborah’s, Hunter’s, and Primo’s brows.

What were those severed pinkies for?

It didn’t take long for the three to realize what it was for. Since the people who stayed were former members of the Reapers, they knew their boss very well. Hera counted how many people who left; those pairs of pinkies were proof no one successfully got out or was purposely given mercy.

"Damn..." Primo gasped, rendered speechless. "I thought I was a bad person, but also a sophisticated leader. But this one is of a different caliber. It’s not even a good kind of different."

"Considering the Reapers aren’t your typical mob group, but an assassination group, it shouldn’t be surprising," Hunter commented quietly. "Though this is an effective way of having control of such a large group of elite assassins."

"We worked with them for years, but they weren’t like this," Deborah whispered, slowly shifting her eyes to Hera. Just like her, Hunter and Primo also cast their attention to Hera’s side profile.

There was surely a reason many bosses and dons in the underground didn’t want to cross her.

Aside from having capable people under her wing, she was someone who could bring out the best, or perhaps the worst in them. These soldiers didn’t even have this high morale when they were serving Dragon. In other words, what they gave Dragon was their bare minimum.

"Done!" One of the men, standing in the front row, announced after the last man threw a pair of severed pinkies in the front. He counted it in his head, knowing Hera was also counting. Thus, when the numbers were right, he proudly voiced out the first phase of the initiation was done.

"Good job." Hera nodded in satisfaction. "Now, onto the next."

Everyone raised their chins, eyes on the woman looking down at them from the second floor. Silence immediately settled in, even their breaths were controlled in case the faint noise would distract them.

"You might’ve heard it already; The Interpol arrested Wolf." A glint flickered across Hera’s eyes as her expression darkened. "And Dimitri is out there, thinking he can get away unscathed after messing with me."

She drew a deep breath, running her tongue across her inner cheeks. "We’ll move tonight." She then pointed a finger at ten people in the crowd.

"The five of you. Gather as many Reapers stationed in the vicinity. If they fought back, kill them. The other group will send word to those stationed far away. Tell them to come home." She paused, scanning everyone’s faces. "The rest will prepare everything. We’ll leave in an hour."

Meanwhile...

"You don’t know what you’re doing, Mr. Zhu," said a man in the back seat, looking at his side where Dominic sat. "Do you think people won’t know your true colors in no time? This is politics and I tell you, it’s completely different from running a simple business."

Dominic kept his eyes ahead, his expression blank. "That’s right. It’s completely different from just running a business. After all, no one blatantly targeted my children when I was just a simple businessman... but now you do it in broad daylight."

"You got me in the worst time," He dawdled, raising his hand and pointing the pistol in the man’s temple. Without looking at him, Dominic unhesitatingly pulled the trigger.

Blood splatted on the window and some specks on Dominic’s side. But alas, he didn’t even blink as he retrieved his hand. He glanced over at the man lying beside him in the backseat emotionlessly, and as if nothing happened, he stepped out of the car.

"Clean it up," said Dominic, handing out the pistol to one of the men standing outside the car.

The man bowed slightly while Dominic marched to the other car where Bear was. Bear opened the backseat for him, saying;

"I got you a new set of clothes. You can’t go to your inauguration looking like that."

"Fortunately, I moved the children to another location." Dominic nodded, hitching in the car. "Let’s go."

Bear nodded, shutting the door closed when Dominic got in. Before running to the front passenger, he glanced at the other car where Dominic came out.

’I guess he’s really upset at the fact Heaven and Hera switched bodies again,’he thought before he jogged to the front passenger seat. ’He didn’t even spend two minutes to end him.’
