Chapter 1008: Back to old management

Just like the first time, the three followed Hera back to the lobby in confusion. After their brief exchange with her, their caution toward Hera was replaced by myriads of questions. It was strange that she knew even Tiger and Ivy’s relationship.

Wasn’t she locked up all this time?

Regardless of the questions in their heads, they followed Hera to the stairs that led them to the second floor. They walked for a few minutes to reach the mezzanine on the second floor. Hera approached the railing, gazing over it to see everyone gathered downstairs.

The three stayed close, but not close enough to suffocate her. They also looked down, catching four men in the front, tied up and on their knees.

"Are they the ones who facilitated Joker’s torture?" Hera’s voice was quiet, but it still resonated in everyone’s ears.

"They’re the ones in charge of the torture chambers." One man in the crowd answered.

"Just them?"

"Yes, Boss."

Hera rocked her head, earning the three little musketeers (Deborah, Primo, and Hunter) attention. "Beat them up. Give them the same injuries... no, make sure they live until all their bones are broken."

"No, no, boss! I was only told to —" Before the man could finish his sentence, a foot landed on the side of his head.

Each man tied up had at least four men beating them up mercilessly. Everyone watched in silence. No one interfered. Many of them were members of the Reapers, while the other half were Dragon’s recruits. But they all watched in horror. When some of them peeked at Hera on the second floor, they couldn’t help but gulp.

Was this the same woman playing gardening not long ago?

For the next twenty minutes, everyone could only hear the grunts of those four men and how their bones cracked. Those who were executing Hera’s orders continued to beat the men, even if they were already unconscious.

"That’s enough." Hera raised a hand, and automatically, they stopped. "You may continue later. Send them to the infirmary so they won’t die immediately. I want them alive until Joker recovers so he could at least land a punch on them."

Hera rested her hands on the railing, spreading them until she was leaning forward. "Before that, I only have one word for you. Those who don’t want to be here go."

Everyone looked at each other. Even Primo, Deborah, and Hunter looked at Hera in confusion.

Would she let them go?

"I won’t get angry," Hera reassured. "Leave your weapons behind and turn around. Leave."

Hesitation in some individuals’ eyes, mostly the recruits who started working for Dragon and not Hera. Just by the looks in their eyes, Hera could tell those former Reapers wanted to stay with her. And those unfamiliar faces hesitating.

She gave them a minute until one man removed his rifle.

"I heard Hera Cruel sticks to her word, so I am hopeful you will honor your words. I will not stay," said the man bravely. "I worked for Dragon, and not for you. I can’t switch masters now."

Hera nodded in understanding, watching the man turn around to leave. Seeing that Hera was letting the man leave, more and more people put down their weapons. Without saying a word, they turned around to leave the lobby.

"Are you really just going to let them go?" Primo gasped in disbelief, watching more people pass through the main entrance. "You will regret this."

Hera remained quiet, only speaking when the last person crossed the threshold. Looking down at those who stayed, she could still see some men who still had hesitation in their eyes. However, they seemed too scared to follow suit. Not that the numbers who left were too great. Just one-fourth of the numbers in here.

"Anyone else?" she cocked her head to the side. "Run fast while I’m being lenient."

This time, one man whimpered as he hurriedly put down his weapon and ran with his tail between his legs. Watching him made Hera chuckle in amusement.

"Anyone else?" she asked, this time, the determination in everyone’s eyes grew solid. She scanned their faces, nodding approvingly. "I am a little disappointed at how Dragon extorted my people, but I am even more disappointed that you allowed him to."

"If you want to make up for it, I’m giving you your first order." Hera paused, fluttering her eyelashes to the entrance. "Shoot everyone down who crossed that door just now."

Deborah’s expression turned pale, looking at Hera in horror. "Didn’t you say you won’t get angry?"

"I’m not angry." Hera shook her head, shrugging. "I didn’t say I’d let them live, though. I hope they can run fast."

Hera drew a deep breath as she refocused her attention on the people downstairs. "Just like these three Super Fools beside me, those guys might try to play hero. I don’t want to deal with them in the future."

Was this the reason she asked them to stay close? To use them as examples?

"Yes!" Everyone answered in unison, turning around to the door, and without a second hesitation, rushed toward it.

Within moments, a round of gunfire resonated through the night, while the night breeze carried away gunpowder and blood.

Hunter, Primo, and Deborah could only stare at the door, listening to the sound on the other side. This was a massacre. Looking at Hera on instinct, they gulped at the lack of conscience in her eyes.

"You... massacre people the moment you wake up?" Primo blurted out under his breath.

"Why does that sound surprising? It’s not like you’re one to talk." Hera arched a brow, turning around to rest her back against the railing, arms crossed. "Though I understand you’re a bit surprised. I changed, didn’t I?"

"Yes." Deborah nodded. "And it was drastic."

"Too drastic and almost embarrassing. But the good side of that is, I didn’t hurt anybody aside from myself. At least, I didn’t order for a massacre." She cocked her head back, offering them a smile. "Don’t worry. That Hera you met before is possessed. It was the devil’s talking. This body is back to its old management."

The old management was more like a devil now, though.
