Chapter 99: [Bonus Chapter]Such a strange name

[PRESENT TIME]

"Boss, here is the new batch of bodyguards that you asked for." Dominic snapped his eyes, only to see a handful of documents placed on his desk. "Are you alright, sir?"

Dane furrowed his brows, tilting his head to the side as he pointed out. "You’ve been spacing out all day. Is something bothering you?"

"Yes." Dominic sighed, resting his arms on the armrest as he leaned back against the swivel chair. "I’m concerned about Sebastian."

"What about the young master? Did something happen again?"

"He doesn’t like to share. That is the problem."

"..." Dane Zhang was momentarily speechless.

The young master took after his father. Dominic might not be a bad person, but after working for many years for him, Dane could assert his boss was quite greedy about certain things.

"It’s giving me a headache." Dominic pinched the bridge of his nose, recalling the look on his son’s face when they sent him off this morning. "Surely, being a parent isn’t as easy as thinking of other ways to multiply wealth."

’His perspective on wealth never ceases to amaze me,’ thought Dane, thinking his boss wasn’t like everybody else, including Dane.

For many people, money was a huge factor. Having six or seven figures in their banks was a feat one would be proud of. But Dominic saw it with very little value, not because he was born with a golden spoon. It was foolish to think like that.

Dominic was like this because he would still be in this same position in life, even if he came from the bottom. For him, multiplying his wealth was a habit.

Yes. A habit.

"Sir, I don’t have a child yet, but it’s not good to force the young master to share things he was not comfortable sharing." Dane cleared his throat, getting rid of his thoughts before he get sidetracked. "As an alternative to this, you can tell him to offer other toys he can share with his friends."

"You misunderstood, Dane." Dominic blinked. "It’s not a thing, but a person. Heaven, to be precise. It seems my son sees me as a rival."

His expression turned sharp once again, making Dane think Dominic was the one who was seeing his son as his rival. But his brows then furrowed as he replayed his boss’s remarks in his head.

"The young madam?"

"Heaven and Sebastian went on a date yesterday." Dominic frowned. "I don’t exactly know what happened yesterday. She only told me they went to the playground and ate together, but Sebastian had been glaring daggers at me since morning. It seemed he disliked it when I look at his mother or touch her."

Unbelievable.

’This is unbelievable.’ Dane’s mouth fell open, rendered speechless by the dilemma he was listening to. ’Never in my life had I imagined I would see him in such a dilemma.’

For the past five years, Dominic never spoke about his problems at home. He wouldn’t even mention Heaven’s name! Though once in a while, he would mention Sebastian, most of them were reminders or orders regarding the young master’s school.

So this... was like a dream. Hopefully, not a nightmare.

"Maybe... the young madam said something?" Dane blurted out, biting his tongue when Dominic’s eyes glinted menacingly. "I’m sorry. I didn’t mean it like that, sir. I’m just trying to figure things out, but it seemed I misspoke."

"You did." Dominic waved dismissively, bending over as he reached for the documents Dane delivered. "I shouldn’t ask you such things, considering you have no family of your own."

Wow.

Dane’s face twitched. What a way to insult him without even trying. Thankfully, Dane knew his boss well enough not to get affected by his remarks. His boss was just a little insensitive sometimes.

"These are the newly hired guards?" Dominic changed the topic as he opened the folder.

"Yes." Dane cleared his throat once more, straightening his back as he kept his hand behind him.

"I see."

Dane stayed on his spot, watching his boss skim through the profiles they hired. The Zhu Family doesn’t lack bodyguards, especially the elders. They were a household name, after all. Even if there were no existing threats, being targeted by bad people for ransom wouldn’t be a surprise.

Dominic’s concern stemmed from Sebastian’s actions the other day, but the last straw was because of his wife and son’s first date. The two went out with just the two of them. Back then, this wasn’t a problem since Heaven would rarely leave her room while Sebastian always had company.

But now, things were different.

Therefore, Dominic wanted to ascertain his family’s safety even if they wanted to go out.

"Isn’t he a little old for this?" Dominic stopped at a particular page, staring at the man’s photo.

The man in the profile was already a middle-aged man with a pair of silver eyes. He had this strict look at one glance. It wouldn’t be a surprise if his ways were also old-fashion.

Dane stretched his neck to take a glimpse of the profile. "Ah, him? Well, the General recommended him because he heard you were looking for capable bodyguards."

"The General, huh?" Dominic rocked his head in understanding, reading more about the person. "A former lieutenant... and even a politician’s bodyguard for quite some time. His resume isn’t bad."

"Everyone in that folder had gone through multiple physical and mental tests. He scored the highest."

"The highest?" Surprised, Dominic arched a brow at his assistant. "Even in the physical test?"

"Yes. Even the physical test." Dane nodded. "But despite his old age, many of the new recruits respect him. It doesn’t look like it, but I think he will be a good choice to be the young madam’s bodyguard."

Dominic pondered for a moment as he set his eyes on the resume. He leaned back, holding the piece of paper before him.

"You’re right. It’s better to appoint someone older as her bodyguard. I don’t trust young men nowadays." Dominic nodded as he decided while Dane’s face twitched. "His name is a little strange, though. Is this really his name?"

"Yes." Dane cleared his throat for the third time since coming into this office, nodding. "I’ve confirmed through multiple background checks. That’s his name."

"I see." Dominic set his eyes back on the paper, reading the man’s name. "Bear Cruel... such a strange name."
