Chapter 29: Skeleton Team

Next day.

The tiny dark room was filled with the sound of oil sizzling.

Lukas was preparing steaks for Shiba’s breakfast.

As the smoke from the frying pan filled the tiny dark room, so did the aroma from the steak.

Shiba grinned widely, anticipating a treat.

It jumped impatiently from left to right as it saw Lukas stop his hands and glance over at it.

"Remember, no eating the plate." He said and placed a few steaks onto a plate.

He picked up the plate and placed it on the ground.

Shiba grinned and swallowed a mouthful of saliva.

Slurp.

It opened its huge mouth and swallowed the steaks that were on the plate.

This time though, the plate was spared, and it was left on the ground.

Lukas shook his head as he still couldn’t get used to Shiba’s appetite for food.

"Now that you’ve eaten your fill, be prepared to work hard later." He said as he had intended to go out of the city and clear demonic beasts again.

Burp.

Shiba sat on the ground, patted its tummy with its front claws and gave out a loud burp.

"I’ll take that as a yes." Lukas said and he began to pack for the day’s outing.

He wore a new cap he had bought and a different face mask.

Something he had to do to try and stay out of everyone’s attention.

Then he put on his Darkmatter Vault Armor underneath his usual shirt and jeans.

Lukas proceeded to check on his weapons and equipment, packed some essentials like food and water into the storage space.

Then he activated his SSS Level Summoner ability and kept Shiba in his summon space.

With everything done, he set out for the checkpoint at the wall.

...

When the bus stopped and everyone got off, Lukas followed them.

He cleared the checkpoint relatively easily as the soldier at the checkpoint recognized him from his ID.

Lukas shook his head and gestured for the soldier at the checkpoint not to attract attention, and the soldier obliged.

It was a relatively smooth day before noon and he killed three demonic beasts without any injuries.

Lukas sat and took a bite from his energy bar as he looked at the information panel in his mind.

He was confident that he could level up to the next level within the next few days.

While Lukas was having his rest, someone else got busy.

Unbeknownst to him, a small insect that was made of electronics and carbon fiber flew away from him.

It flew away silently as it flapped its mechanical wings.

The small insect then traveled for a few minutes before stopping on a man’s palm.

It stung its sharp and pointed tail into the man’s palm.

The man, who had electronic gear attached all over him, started to give out a ghastly green glow with both of his eyes after the small insect plunged its sting into his palm.

After a few moments the green glow disappeared, and the small insect disintegrated into little parts on the man’s palm.

"Techno, stop your shit and tell us whether our target is still at rest."

There were four other men standing beside him and one of them got impatient with Techno.

The man, called Techno, with electronics all over him, turned to his four teammates and said, "That Lukas is not far away."

"Let’s get it over and done with. I want to be chilling at the bar by 3PM." The burly man, Rock, who was impatient with Techno swung his arms around to warm up.

"Don’t be impatient, Rock. You two go and scout ahead first, don’t do anything until I say so." The leader of the team, Skull, who wore a skeleton mask, glanced over at the other two remaining members.

The other two members, elder and younger Brad, who were twins, had belts of syringes hanging from their armor.

They nodded and started to move out in Lukas’s direction.

Skull then typed into his phone and sent a message to Pak Soon Hyun.

[In pursuit of target now.]

Within a second, Pak Soon Hyun replied.

[Well done. Make sure he dies the most painful death.]

Skull kept his phone and waved his hand.

Rock and Techno nodded and started to move in the direction of where Lukas was.

...

When Lukas stood up and got ready to move on, he stopped when he heard rustling nearby.

He took out his pistol, held it tightly in one of his hands.

The rustling then stopped, and Lukas waited.

Elder and younger Brad had arrived nearby, and they were hiding behind the trees.

Younger Brad, after seeing that Lukas looked like a high school kid, wanted to go out and kill him straightaway.

But Elder Brad shook his head, raised his hand and pointed to where they came from, reminding Younger Brad of their leader’s instruction.

Younger Brad smirked and wouldn’t listen.

Why are you so scared of that young man? He thought.

They, the Skeleton Team, had assassinated so many awakened and hadn’t failed so far.

Younger Brad twitched his nose, and he made a decision.

Bang!

He rushed out from his cover and shot at Lukas with his pistol.

The loud noise startled the birds in the trees, and they flew away.

"Damn it!"

Elder Brad grunted and chased after his younger brother.

Lukas ducked to the ground and the bullet whistled past him above his head.

He looked up and saw Elder and Younger Brad approaching him.

Phut.

His pistol with the silencer let out a few soft phuts.

Lukas didn’t hesitate and fired upon the twin brothers.

"Argh!"

The silent fire caught the twin brothers by surprise and Lukas’s shots hit their targets.

Elder Brad held his hand on his shoulder while Younger Brad held his arm to stop the bleeding from the wound.

However, their armor did its work, and the bullet didn’t penetrate deeply.
