"Yes. I have some demonic beast cores." Lukas said.

The other awakened were surprised by his response.

There was no way Lukas had demonic beast cores on him.

Does he even know what a demonic beast core is? They thought silently to themselves.

The banker frowned at Lukas as he had another bet with the soldier at the checkpoint counter.

He began to pray that Lukas didn’t know what he was talking about.

They gasped as they saw Lukas, with his hand, reach into his Darkmatter Vault Armor’s chest plate.

And when his hand came out of the Darkmatter Vault Armor’s chest plate, he had a demonic beast core of the Ice Panther in his hand.

Lukas placed the demonic beast core on the checkpoint counter’s desk.

All the awakened got nearer to inspect the demonic beast core.

Every one of them was amazed that Lukas not only came back unscathed, but he was also able to kill an Ice Panther and get its demonic beast core.

Lukas didn’t hide somewhere and come back.

"No." The banker slapped his hand onto his face and his hands slowly slid down, showing his face that had an expression of despair.

He had lost all his bets with the soldier at the counter.

He could already envision all his cash being taken away from him.

"Well done! The $100 reward would be credited into your registered account when the authenticity of the demonic beast core is verified." The soldier at the checkpoint counter exclaimed with joy.

He took the demonic beast core, placed it on a device and the device started to scan the demonic beast core.

Whirl.

The device emitted a whirling sound as it scanned the demonic beast core for authenticity.

After it was done, the demonic beast core was recorded into the system.

And Lukas received a notification on his phone immediately.

He picked up his phone and glanced at the notification.

He put his phone down and felt great about the reward.

He would have to work hard just to earn the same amount of money if he didn’t become an awakened.

But now, things were different.

"You can go to the Awakened Center to exchange this for money if you want to. Or you can use it to make yourself stronger."

The soldier at the checkpoint counter said as he passed the demonic beast core back to Lukas.

"Don’t leave first. I had some bets with these awakened, and you deserve some of the earnings."

"I’m not about to leave." Lukas shook his head much to the surprise of the soldier.

The soldier had expected Lukas to leave the next moment, but Lukas didn’t.

He saw Lukas reaching into his armor’s chest plate again.

One by one he took out all the demonic beast cores he had obtained.

The soldier at the checkpoint counter couldn’t believe his eyes when he saw the demonic beast cores on his desk.

There were one Fire Deer’s demonic beast core, and six Ice Wolves’ demonic beast cores.

"Eight demonic beast cores?!"

"How is that possible? He is just a young man."

"This is the first time I’ve heard of someone coming back with eight demonic beast cores!"

"Even Riley can’t get so many. If I remember correctly, his record was only four."

The awakened chattered excitedly amongst themselves.

"Wait. What if these demonic beast cores were fake?"

One of the awakened suddenly exclaimed and all of them went quiet.

They waited and watched intensely for the soldier to proceed to see if the demonic beast cores were in fact authentic.

The soldier shrugged and picked up one of the demonic beast cores and placed it onto the device.

Lukas’s phone then kept on buzzing as the soldier scanned the demonic beast cores one after another.

It was a fruitful trip. He looked at the notification and thought to himself.

By now the other awakened were in a frenzy.

Who was this man?

They had to get him onto their team.

"That’s him. The one that broke Riley’s monthly ranking for this month. No wonder he could be so good."

Someone finally realized who Lukas was, pointed at him and shouted.

Lukas frowned as this meant that he would have to deal with these awakened wanting him to join.

The soldier at the checkpoint saw his expression and stood up.

"All of you better not harass him."

The other soldiers held up their weapons as a warning.

All the other awakened kept quiet and stepped back.

These soldiers were awakened themselves and had the best gear and weapons that were available.

No point for them to go against the troops.

The soldier at the checkpoint counter then pointed at the banker and gestured for him to come.

The banker sighed and dragged his feet towards the checkpoint counter.

"Pay up." The soldier reached out his hand and waited.

The banker took out a stack of cash and slowly counted.

"Here you go. $2000 in winnings." He placed the cash onto the soldier’s palm and said.

The soldier counted the cash, verified it was correct and turned towards Lukas.

"Here, you deserve a portion of the winnings." The soldier said and passed over $800 to Lukas.

"Thanks." Lukas shrugged and took the cash from the soldier.

He wasn’t one to reject goodwill.

This was a different world, and he knew that he needed all the money and resources he could get to survive.

Lukas then proceeded to leave the checkpoint and went back home.

After he got off the bus, Lukas went to the supermarket to buy some meat.

He felt rich with the money he made today, and he wanted to give Shiba a treat.

So, he bought some steaks and other groceries.

When he got back home to his small and dark tiny room, he thought that it was also time for him to improve his living conditions.
