I Can Transform Into Any Monster
Chapter 96: Velos 1

Chapter 96: Velos 1

Since there were no assigned seat numbers, a bit of chaos erupted as some students scrambled for window seats to enjoy the outside view.

Even the teachers struggled to stop the students from fighting over seats.

However, once Thomas and the others—the Awakener students—stepped in to assist the teachers in calming things down, the students quickly settled.

They sat in their preselected area, in the back row but on the opposite end from Luis and Alice.

Their eyes couldn’t help but glance at Luis with various expressions as they saw him sitting beside Alice, signaling that their closeness had clearly surpassed mere friendship.

They hadn’t thought their relationship had reached that level, but it seemed to them that Luis was trying to get close to Alice, and she wasn’t avoiding him. She was open to being approached.

This wasn’t the case when any of them had tried to get close to Alice. Even when Thomas did, she had coldly ignored him.

Although Thomas still liked her, he no longer had the courage to approach her again.

After a brief conversation with Luis, Alice returned to looking at her phone.

She didn’t hide the screen from him, and what she was doing was simply reading a fantasy novel.

"Mm!"

Luis noticed the aircraft beginning to move. There was a slight vibration, but it was brief, and the plane was virtually silent.

The ground below seemed to gradually rise as the aircraft ascended, still visible to him since he wasn’t too far from the window.

As the plane soared higher, it suddenly darted eastward at high speed—so fast that Velos 33 disappeared in an instant.

Compared to Madam Sofia’s flying car, this was much faster. However, Velos 1 was very far away. From Velos 33, they were practically flying across half the planet.

Even with this aircraft, the journey could take up to three hours.

Some students opted to sleep rather than wait.

"Alice, can I watch our video?" Luis asked Alice, who was still focused on her novel.

No other student was sitting beside her.

He could speak freely with Alice without worrying about being overheard.

If they watched the video together, no one could peek.

As for the sound, they could use headsets. In fact, they didn’t even need headsets—just connect the phone to the Stat Watch, and it would transmit the sound directly to their ears.

Alice rolled her eyes when she heard that.

"I don’t want to watch it again," she said.

Luis couldn’t help but show a strange expression at her words.

Had she already watched the video on her own?

Alice seemed to realize that her words had given her away, and she grew slightly awkward for a moment.

"Are you not satisfied just seeing me?" Alice asked.

"It’s not like that, I just wanted to watch the video," Luis replied.

"NO!" Alice responded firmly.

She clearly wasn’t going to let him watch the video no matter what.

Luis knew he couldn’t force her, so he dropped the request.

Unable to keep talking about it, Luis finally pulled out his phone as well.

It also contained a hot video—but of course, watching that here was impossible. If Alice saw it, Luis feared she’d destroy the plane, even mid-air.

To pass the time, Luis decided to play a mobile MOBA game he hadn’t touched in recent days due to his busy schedule as an Awakener.

He loved playing MOBA games and could easily lose track of time.

Not only Luis and Alice were busy with their phones—so were the other students.

Minutes passed, and after nearly three hours, the plane finally began to slow down.

"Look, there it is! Velos 1!" one student suddenly shouted.

This caused the other students to jump from their seats and rush toward the windows to get a view—except for the window next to Alice.

No one dared approach that one.

Luis didn’t need to stand to get a better view. He simply straightened his back, and the massive city finally came into view, located on the seashore with 90 percent of it built above the ocean on tens of thousands of artificial islands, connected by countless bridges.

It was undoubtedly a breathtaking city. Even the surrounding sea was clear and clean, with vast beaches lining the city’s edges.

The number of skyscrapers in the city was uncountable. Hundreds of them stood directly on the ocean, without any reclaimed land beneath, connected by bridges.

Flying cars zoomed all over the city, and the buzz of activity was unimaginable, as if there were major events happening everywhere—though there weren’t.

Before the empire’s arrival, this city wasn’t the largest in Velos, though it was a major one. It used to consist only of the area on original land, often called the Old City.

By chance, many imperial citizens had taken a liking to the sea beside the Old City, and they built a new city there.

Over the years, the city had become incredibly grand, attracting more imperial citizens and Velos natives looking for opportunities.

Imperial technology had made things that once seemed impossible to the people of Velos incredibly easy.

The scenery became even more stunning with a giant mountain behind the city, its peak covered in snow due to its immense height.

The city even had a massive port, full of large cruise ships that came and went.

Though Velos 33 was a major city, Luis felt like a village boy arriving in a metropolis when he saw Velos 1.

It exceeded all his expectations.

As a powerful Awakener, he could faintly sense many strong auras within the city.

Tyler, for example—an Awakener with a Tier 3 Spirit—lived here.

The plane was heading for a wide open area at the city’s edge.

No, it wasn’t just a field—it was an enormous aircraft carrier.

Only here could large planes like theirs land, as city roads were too narrow, and landing in someone’s yard was out of the question.

Naturally, it wouldn’t be appropriate to just drop a ladder and let students off like they were being picked up. That would look unrefined.

This time, the plane actually landed.

"Students, you may disembark now," said one of the teachers leading the study tour.

She was a woman in her 30s, young among the staff, and pleasant-looking—Mrs. Selvi.

The plane’s door opened as she spoke.

The students, weary of being cooped up for so long, hurried to get off.

In this era, three hours in a vehicle was considered too long and enough to leave some people frustrated and annoyed.

Luis and Alice didn’t like being jostled in the crowd, which could ruin their image as the two strongest Awakeners.

They preferred to wait for the others to leave first, disembarking last.

As Luis set foot in the city, he was slightly surprised to feel the air much denser.

His body, tired from sitting too long, felt refreshed as he breathed in the dense atmosphere.

"No wonder people here live longer—they’ve made the air so comfortable," Luis said.

Ordinary people could live up to 60 or 80 years, but it was no secret that residents of Velos 1 could live up to 100—at least 90 years if they weren’t struck by disease or murdered.

Perhaps that’s why so many wanted to come here. But for native citizens, settling here wasn’t easy.

The empire was strict—if you weren’t needed, you weren’t allowed to live in this city.

"Students, this city might be exciting, but it’s not a place where you can behave however you want—even if you are Awakeners," said Mrs. Selvi again, looking at Thomas and the others.

"Last time, those who caused trouble came back full of injuries," she added.

"Don’t worry, Mrs. Selvi. We know our limits," Thomas replied casually.

Luis remained silent, even though he knew they were planning revenge against those who had beaten their seniors.

Of course, the main reason for this revenge plan was him.

Otherwise, they wouldn’t dare do it—they’d surely lose.

Not because the other students were stronger, but this was their territory. They had the numbers, from Class 1 to 3, while Luis’s group was only from Class 3.

"Alright, you’re all free to go wherever you like. If you get into trouble, it’s your own responsibility. It’s not that the school doesn’t want to take responsibility, but we can’t," Mrs. Selvi said.

Although this was a study tour, the main goal was pure vacation. Students were free to go anywhere. The school didn’t forbid it but recommended places where they could learn something.

"Luis, come with us!" Thomas approached Luis and invited him to join.

Luis glanced at Alice, curious if she would come along.

"I’ll accompany the girls. You can go ahead. I’ll wait for you tonight," Alice said just as Luis looked at her.

Luis nodded after hearing that.

"Let’s go," he said to Thomas, who suddenly looked curious about what Alice was expecting from Luis that night.

When they were a few metres away from Alice, Thomas finally asked, "What are you two going to do tonight?"

He seemed too curious, and Luis wasn’t quite sure how to answer.

"Mm, there’s something we need to do," he said.

That was all he could say, not lying but not explaining what it was.
