I Can Transform Into Any Monster -
Chapter 63: Too Expensive
Chapter 63: Too Expensive
"Madam, what is the ability of this Double Power Mirror?" Luis asked.
That was the name of the mirror—Double Power Mirror.
Unfortunately, only the name and starting price were displayed. There was no description, as the screen obviously couldn’t fit the details of each item being auctioned.
Basically, everyone was expected to already know the capabilities of the items they wanted.
"How should I explain this? Basically, this mirror can store our reflection when we stand in front of it. That reflection can then launch the same attack as we do, from inside the mirror. It’s perfect for someone like me who uses fire abilities. My reflection in the mirror can unleash my fire attacks, so there will be two attacks instead of one, without me using any extra energy. But if it’s for you—or anyone who fights with physical strength—this mirror isn’t suitable," Madam Sofia explained.
"Well, for anyone with long-range attack capabilities, this mirror is truly helpful," she added.
After hearing the explanation, Luis nodded. He thought the starting price was indeed worth it, as the mirror significantly increased a person’s combat strength.
Luis just didn’t know whether the Monster Cores that Madam Sofia had would be enough, even with the additional 50 million he could contribute.
He hadn’t yet asked how much she actually had.
Of course, he couldn’t lend her more, as he himself wanted to win two items and was already worried his own Monster Cores might not be enough.
One thing that made Luis uncomfortable was that the Imperial Academy students were actually seated behind him and Madam Sofia.
Velika Aris was even sitting directly behind him, and he could constantly feel a threatening presence from behind.
If she suddenly stabbed him in the back, it would be truly dangerous.
"Ladies and gentlemen!" Once everyone had taken their seats, the woman on stage—the auctioneer—finally spoke.
Immediately after, two combat robots appeared from backstage, pushing a glass case containing a sword.
"Our first auction item is a Tier A Level 2 Weapon. Its power is unquestionable. Starting price: 40 million!" she announced as the sword was placed before her.
"42 million!" someone immediately shouted.
"47 million!" another person added.
Tier A weapons were among the most valuable items for most people since weapons could be used by anyone, so it was no surprise the prices soared.
It didn’t take long before the weapon was sold for 80 million, doubling its starting price.
Compared to market prices, that was quite high, but perhaps the uniqueness of the auctioned weapon made it highly sought after.
All weapons were the first set of items auctioned.
After that came the Death Leaf.
"Maybe you don’t see the importance of this item, but I believe there are still some interested parties. Of course, I think every item has hidden value. If you invest in this leaf and its secret use is discovered, its price could skyrocket," the auctioneer said with a soft smile and a pleasant tone.
She knew the item wouldn’t sell easily, so she added some marketing flair.
Because she was a beautiful woman, her words did affect some people’s judgment—making them believe perhaps the item truly had unknown potential.
One of them was Riven.
He raised his hand and said, "16 million!"
Luis was, of course, unhappy about that.
He quickly said, "17 million!"
The fact that he suddenly bid surprised the imperial academy students, who assumed he was doing it just to provoke them.
Riven furrowed his brows, thinking the same, then said, "18 million!"
Luis’s expression turned grim.
If this continued, he might keep raising the bid just to avoid losing to Riven.
"19 million," he said.
He was getting uneasy, not wanting to waste too many Monster Cores on the Death Leaf, as it would reduce his chances of getting the Star Eye.
But unexpectedly, Madam Sofia suddenly looked at Riven.
"Friend, would you mind letting us have that?" she said with a gentle smile.
Riven was momentarily stunned by her smile.
Of course, he quickly composed himself. With his cold personality, he tended to hide his feelings toward women—though truthfully, he was as attracted to Madam Sofia as the others.
"Do you want it, Lady?" he asked, speaking in a softer tone without realizing it.
"Yes, I hope you’ll yield," Madam Sofia replied, still smiling.
Her charm clearly affected Riven.
He nodded and finally stayed quiet.
The auctioneer frowned at this outcome. She glanced at Riven unhappily, as if thinking, "Damn brat!"
Once it was assumed Madam Sofia wanted the Death Leaf, everyone else who initially wanted to bid on it backed out.
The auctioneer had no choice but to give it to Luis.
The item was immediately delivered to his seat by attendants, and he paid for it right away.
"I knew that was one of the materials you needed for the Giant Shadow Body," Madam Sofia said to Luis in a soft voice.
In the end, it was clear that only Luis wanted the leaf. Madam Sofia merely helped him get it, and others backed off because of her.
Luis was once again the target of jealous stares. This time, he even felt it from Riven.
"Thank you, Madam," Luis said.
"We’re here together, so it’s only right to help each other," Madam Sofia replied, as if telling him not to thank her.
Luis simply nodded.
The next item to be auctioned was a Spirit, though only Tier 1.
It was a wind-type Spirit said to help someone fly if used properly.
It was very rare for Spirits to be sold, but of course, Tier 1 was the limit in Velos—no one would sell a Tier 2 Spirit. Perhaps only the empire had that.
Naturally, since it was a Spirit, it was hotly contested with a starting price of 75 million.
In the end, a Spirit was an internal power source—unlike weapons, which were external.
Internal power was still considered more important, even if it didn’t boost strength as obviously as external ones.
One of the strongest bidders was Riven.
He seemed to possess many Monster Cores.
Considering he was the strongest student in the Imperial Academy, it wasn’t surprising that his background was extraordinary.
Luis and Madam Sofia remained silent.
Surprisingly, Tyler, the Awakener who had a Tier 3 Spirit, also bid for the Spirit, instantly raising the price to 150 million, shocking everyone. They wondered why he wanted a Tier 1 Spirit.
It likely wouldn’t boost his power anymore—only Tier 2 Spirits would be useful to support his Tier 3.
"170 million!"
When everyone thought Tyler would win because most people feared competing with him, someone else raised the price.
It was Paul, the bald middle-aged man with four Tier 2 Spirits.
Tyler glared at him sharply for that move, but Paul looked back at him with a smile, as if saying, "What now, kid?"
He wasn’t intimidated at all. Having four Tier 2 Spirits meant his combat power was comparable to a Primordial Monster.
His combat methods might be highly unpredictable due to the combination of four Spirits.
"200 million," Tyler said next.
Unable to intimidate his opponent, he had no choice but to raise the price again. That was a huge sum—enough to push a Level D Awakener to Level C with ease.
After that, Paul said nothing, remaining silent with a grin.
Clearly, he had only raised the price to make Tyler pay more.
Perhaps he held a grudge.
But Tyler remained indifferent. He paid the 200 million without hesitation.
And surprisingly, he kept the Spirit, making people suspect he would give it to someone else.
"Seems like a lot of people have a lot of Monster Cores," Luis muttered.
He now only had 130 million left.
If someone had a star-type Spirit, they probably wouldn’t mind spending all their Cores to get the Star Eye.
After the Spirit, the auctioneer woman finally brought out the Star Eye.
Luis took a deep breath, his heart suddenly pounding.
"Starting price: 75 million. If you need it, I hope you’re ready to spend your wealth," the auctioneer said with a chuckle.
"I want it—150 million," someone immediately shouted, making Luis—who was planning to wait and see—open his mouth in shock.
How could it jump to double the price immediately?
He was even more shocked when he saw the person who raised the price.
It was Liam, the middle-aged man who had spoken with Madam Sofia.
He had said he just wanted to watch the auction, yet he raised the price so high it was beyond Luis’s reach.
"Has this exceeded your budget?" asked Madam Sofia, who knew she also wanted the Star Eye.
"Yes, I only have 130 million left," replied Luis.
"That’s a shame. Liam clearly won’t give up on this item because, as far as I know, his son has a Spirit with star power. He must want to help his son’s spirit evolve," said Madam Sofia.
Luis finally understood why the man had raised the price so high.
This was equivalent to obtaining a Tier 2 Spirit. Not to mention 150 million; even 1 billion wouldn’t be a problem.
Of course, it was extremely difficult to find someone with Monster Cores that had a total Energy Point count reaching 1 billion.
