I Became The Administrator of A Sacred Ground -
Chapter 54: Aftermath
Chapter 54: Aftermath
It was already dark outside by the time Euri returned to his empty home. It had been a long, eventful day, and he couldn’t wait to fall into his bed to sleep.
Somewhat dazed, he freshened up, ate some heated leftovers, and took a look into the game.
Scavenger Rat was finally awake, now being chased around the grove by Brawler Rat. The rest of the beast pets were cultivating diligently, except for Blizzard Porcupine. That guy was sitting ducks inside the Breakthrough Pod.
Feeling bad for keeping it locked up, Euri brought the porcupine out of the pod, but an alert immediately popped into the screen.
[ Blizzard Porcupine’s cultivation energy is at the risk of an overflow. Please restrict its cultivation! ]
Euri hurriedly tapped on the beast’s status window and found the restrictive option in the [ Cultivation ] slot. The faint green smog of vitality gas permeating the sacred ground started avoiding the porcupine immediately.
Next in the checklist were the Infinity Locusts. Apart from the six who had made a strange breakthrough, the rest didn’t show any signs of closing in on one. Euri’s suspicion that the first locusts were special in some way was fortified further.
About thirty minutes were left of the cooldown phase. It’d be unwise to miss out on a hunting attempt just to get thirty minutes of extra sleep. So Euri decided to wait despite the heavy drowsiness in his eyes.
His comcell was vibrating ceaselessly for the last two hours. Every acquaintance of his in the school had come to know about what he had done in that classroom today. People were curious.
Of course, his reckless act hadn’t been enough to drive away the danger. He couldn’t just beat up every reporter, and Chaera Doll wasn’t going to be intimidated by someone as weak as him either.
It was Principal Serique who stepped in before things got ugly. Euri was grateful that he did, regardless of the fact that it was Serique himself who had allowed the reporters to come in.
The reputation of the project was saved for the time being. That meant the ominous fate of Jaakie’s father wasn’t sealed yet. Had it not been for that revelation, Euri would’ve gladly watched the project be exposed and cancelled.
Then again, his decision to act in defense of the project wasn’t entirely selfless. He was no saint. He had done it partly because it was an opportunity to gain some benefits from the descendants of the Bloodfly Clan. Having become an integral part of their false claim, he could leverage a lot.
While he was going through the list of unread texts in his comcell, he discovered one from Aemon’s ID.
[ We managed to convince Boss Chen. But he’s definitely a bit suspicious about the origin of our injuries. Vernon cooperated well on the phone to vouch for our story. Pray that this is the end of the matter. ]
The burden of worries on his shoulder suddenly felt a lot lighter. A potential disaster had been averted. Now was the time to enjoy the spoils.
Euri messaged Vernon to confirm the news. The wager between the two of them over his bank account was concluded in peaceful terms. He got back the full ownership of his 4102 credits.
Vernon promised to transfer the compensation money within a week. Euri kindly allowed the extension. 6000 credits was a lot of money. He could wait a week or two for it.
Not to mention, he still had Vernon’s lucky watch. The man wouldn’t dare renege on his words under the fear of losing it.
Next, he checked up on his parents. Inter-district routes weren’t easy to traverse. A large portion of the routes were unsafe because of the dimensional gateways infused across miles of ruined landscape.
These cross-dimensional fusion regions had appeared just before the first cosmic notice. Across the globe, more than a billion people had been displaced. Millions died in the process, too. Civilization had become somewhat fragmented, as the people had gathered into the safe regions to build the modern ’Districts’.
Traveling from one district to another meant one was bound to brush along the borders of dimensional gateways. Routes were constantly being adjusted to avoid the increasing influence of alien elements seeping into their world.
Thankfully, his mother replied almost immediately.
[ We’ve crossed half the distance. But it looks like we have to make a detour to some smaller cities up ahead. There’s apparently been breakouts of powerful beasts on the usual routes. ]
Euri quickly wrote back in support of the detours. Then he moved on to the remaining unread messages on the comcell. There was no use in responding to most of them. Especially so in the case of the unknown IDs that seemed to belong to reporters from local news outlets.
Done with it all, he simply scrolled through a list of trending news onine. Red Sea Lab’s big discovery floated past the screen a few times.
But Peacock District was quite large, and it didn’t lack sensational events. The doubtful circumstances of the project made many mainstream channels shy away from hyping it up.
Half an hour passed by just like that. Euri reentered the game and activated hunting mode. Ten minutes later, the results were in.
[ Invasion Attempts: 2 ]
[ Success / Failure : 0 / 2 ]
No anomalous development had taken place this time. Euri didn’t know whether to feel happy or disappointed at that. He checked the data of the tied up beasts in a dull mood.
[ Brave Rabbit ]
[ Rank-0 Lifeform ]
[ Physique: 0.4 ]
[ Special Attribute: Berserker ]
True to its affix, the rabbit wasn’t intimidated by the wall of tentacles. It fought with a comical show of fury, punching, kicking, and biting like a rabid animal. The damage it caused, however, was far from matching its intensity.
"What am I supposed to do with this guy?"
Disappointed, he made up his mind to sacrifice the rabbit and moved on to the next catch. Almost immediately, his disappointment dissipated.
[ Scavenger Rabbit ]
[ Rank-0 Lifeform ]
[Physique: 0.37 ]
[ Special Attribute: Hungry Gaze ]
