I Became The Administrator of A Sacred Ground -
Chapter 55: His Aims In Life
Chapter 55: His Aims In Life
Euri woke up the next morning still feeling the jubilance of adding a new Scavenger to his pet squad. He had been so happy last night upon seeing the rabbit’s affix that he had decided to spare the other rabbit’s life.
He hadn’t even prepared for the headache before adopting it for cultivation. Luckily for him, the theorized rule of the Shepherding skill hadn’t failed him.
For similar beasts with the same affix, bonding with one of them was equivalent to bonding with all of them. Although Scavenger Rabbit was quite different from Scavenger Rat as a lifeform, the same affix had probably cut down the painful sensations in half.
He had managed to blink and groan through the memory implantation procedure fairly easily. The rabbit had listened to his commands obediently since then and dragged Scavenger Rat off for its first mission.
The cooldown period of the sacred ground ended while he was making breakfast. A new hunt came to its conclusion as he was drinking the steaming soup. This time, both invading beasts turned out to have uninteresting affixes and stats.
Euri gave them both up to sacred ground’s cores; one to the Gas Well, the other to the Ambrosia Pool. The beast core sacrifice counter reached 18/100. Perhaps three more cores added to the counter would make another impact on the cooldown mode, taking it from 11 hours to 10.
On his way to the school, Euri mentally prepared himself to face some variations of troublesome scenarios. He had left as quickly as possible yesterday after Principal Serique had forced the reporters to leave the classroom. He had a lot to explain to many interested parties today.
He hadn’t actually planned to show up at all for the rest of the week. It was a message from Mekyle, Baldy Bennet’s representative in their class, which had prompted Euri to come.
[ Euri, my brother, Bennet set up the ’meeting’ opportunity you wanted. Please come to school today and discuss the details with him. ]
He hadn’t expected Bennet to track down those three thugs so fast. The efficiency was rather surprising. Or perhaps the infamy he had gained yesterday gave Bennet some extra motivation. Mekyle’s tone in the message was a good piece of evidence that he was no longer deemed a ’nobody’.
After arriving at the campus area, Euri took a detour to avoid being seen at the main entrance. He put on a facemask, scaled a border wall near the academic buildings, and made a fearless leap into a second-floor corridor from the top of the wall.
He had seen a delinquent kid do this once, years ago, and had fantasized about copying it ever since. The distance in that leap wasn’t the issue, it was the height; more than twenty feet above the ground, one mistake meant bones would be broken. Death wasn’t out of the question, either.
"Hooh... That’s another aim in life achieved," he muttered, looking back at the wall with deep satisfaction in his gaze. From the deserted corridor, making it to his classroom undetected was not difficult.
But the scene inside his class was different. When he walked in, the roars of his classmates alerted half the students in the block. Students surged around him like they wanted to beat him up.
After the initial excitement came an awkward phase. No one was quite sure what to say except to thank him. Some tentatively inquired about the truth—whether he really was a superhuman. Euri denied it vehemently, but not everyone was convinced.
Shenna, Jaakie, and Eddie, for example, didn’t believe a single explanation he gave to the rest of the class. Shenna didn’t have a skin thick enough to keep digging into his answers, but the other two weren’t so polite. Both kept bugging him in turns.
Jaakie was feeling a bit wronged, considering their decade-spanning friendship. So Euri gave him five different versions of how he had become so strong, and told the flabbergasted guy to pick whichever version he liked.
On the other hand, Eddie just wanted more information to sell outside. So Euri kindly gave him an offer.
"100,000 credits, bro, that’s all I’m asking in exchange for the truth. I’ll even take an IOU if you can’t afford the whole amount right now!"
Seeing the dumbstruck look on Eddie’s face, he hoped this would be an eye-opener for the young entrepreneur.
A teacher came in for the first period, as usual, but the moment the woman saw Euri in a corner of the classroom, she pulled out her comcell and sent a message. The recipient turned out to be the principal, who appeared outside the room a couple of minutes later, looking like he hadn’t slept all night for some reason.
"Student Euri, please accompany me to my office. We have things to discuss."
There was no sidestepping that order. Euri obediently followed the man to the administration building and discovered a group of familiar faces in the principal’s office.
Three males and two females—the overseer team of the project, had been waiting for him, it seemed.
Nadir Bloodfly took the lead as usual, jumping to his feet and offering Euri a sincere handshake, his expression bright.
"Thank you for stepping up yesterday! You have no idea how much it helped us in keeping the project afloat. Not only did you help us, you helped all of your classmates as well!"
The veiled praise didn’t surprise Euri. Nadir had no reason to divulge the full details behind the scene to him. Euri didn’t want to create another issue by revealing what he knew, either.
Surprisingly enough, the other four superhumans showed him a warm reception too. Perhaps now that they knew about his true capabilities, they deemed him as an equal. The snobbish superiority in their behavior was nowhere to be seen.
The respect of superhumans could be bought by 0.22 units of strength, hah~!
After the pleasantries were set aside, Principal Serique guided the discussion to more serious matters.
"Euri, I keep an eye on every student in each year’s graduating batch. I know who you are, where you live, your family circumstances, and past academic records quite well. So I have some doubts about whoever it is that’s guiding your path to Rank-1 Lifeform."
Tagging along with the principal, Nadir spoke up.
"I’m assuming that they’re not investing in you for free. Are you ready to pay that price? If you don’t want to, you can confide in us so that we can help you. We owe that to you not just out of our gratefulness, but also because you are a part of our company now."
A faint smile was born on Euri’s lips. It was time to strike at another aim in his life!
