I Became The Administrator of A Sacred Ground -
Chapter 46: Chaos In The Deep
Chapter 46: Chaos In The Deep
One by one, they got to know the other three superhumans as well; Eskandar, Merida, and Boris. Among them, Boris left a profound impression on everyone.
"I am Boris Blackstar, third-generation superhuman. I did not take part in the traditional academic curriculum. I have worked in a cross-dimensional military base for several years. As for my current strength, you’re not qualified to know that much."
Having the tag of a third-generation superhuman meant that his forefathers were among the first batch of superhumans of Planet Nen. In other words, he had the most elite lineage possible in this era.
But if that was true, why was he working under a random descendant of the Bloodfly Clan?
Euri recalled Nadir saying that he had invited these four young elites to give them an opportunity to be favored by the Bloodfly Clan.
While Euri didn’t know about this Blackstar Clan’s current status, surely, they’d not like to see their descendants being snatched off by other clans...
Making a mental note to look into the matter later, he watched Nadir reclaim the stage.
"Students, at this phase, we were supposed to let you guys take an aerial tour on the backs of these carrier eagles. It would have been a great way to introduce you to what our project entails."
Everyone in the crowd felt a rush of blood in their hearts. Nobody made a noise, but their faces mirrored their minds.
Riding these monstrous eagles for free? The project would give them more of such experiences even before becoming a superhuman? How many more beast pets would they get to see?
Sign me up!
"But of course, only those of you who qualified on the first test would get this opportunity. Since ALL 80 of you have qualified, and our original schedule must be cut short, we’ll have to skip the fun stuff."
A collective gasp of disappointment resounded among the crowd.
"Let me summarize what this project really is about. It shall be divided into two phases. The first phase is just basics, where we will introduce you to certain types of dimensional environments and record the data based on your physical and psychological reactions to the exposure.
"You may be expected to perform certain tasks in such environments, generally nonlethal, of course; interact with dimensional elements, which include beasts, plants, and various types of unique lifeforms. Based on your performance, you can not only earn handsome remunerations, your future opportunities as a part of our company can also be endless!"
While Nadir’s speech struck the chords of ambitious passion in many young hearts beating on the rooftop, not everyone was quite convinced. The assurance that these tasks would be nonlethal didn’t fool them; neither did they harbor unrealistic dreams of making it big so easily.
Standing at the back of the crowd, Euri made mental notes of some interesting reactions in the crowd. Shenna, the cautious and well-connected class monitor, looked skeptical. Some of the kids who had considerable backgrounds looked pensive.
Even Eddie, the failed entrepreneur of their batch, looked like he was trying not to let out one of his infamous antagonizing laughs.
"The second phase isn’t something we can discuss without signing NDAs. So you guys must make do with the information available so far. But once you fully qualify for the recruitment, all questions shall be answered!
"You’ll not be disappointed—that I promise," Nadir concluded his speech with a sonorous claim.
"Now, our staff shall guide you to the next test. Good luck!"
Turning his back on the gazes of the stunned crowd, Nadir silently gestured at the rest of his team to follow him as he jumped on the back of the largest eagle.
Up until now, it hadn’t paid anyone an iota of attention, lost in its playful fights with the other eagles. But the moment it felt Nadir’s body come into contact with its back, the eagle straightened up, neck feathers quivering, tail swinging up and down to blow air and dust into everyone’s face.
A harsh screech killed the noises of dissent and curiosity rising among the crowd. In the blink of an eye, the eagle carrying Nadir was off the rooftop, shooting towards the clouds like a bullet.
Sensing a dull vibration on the floor from the force of the violent takeoff, Euri couldn’t help feeling impressed. He hadn’t realized how fast these eagles could truly fly. From the train encounter, he had thought they were just faster than ordinary birds.
Now, watching the rest of Nadir’s crew taking off on their own carrier eagles, he had little doubt that ordinary human means would never be able to catch up to them. If a criminal had one such carrier-type beast pet, only a superhuman of equal footing could chase after him!
A sense of anticipation rose inside him as he recalled the sacred ground inside his miniscreen. He was catching new beasts every day there. How long could it take for a carrier beast to appear?
And how much longer did he have to operate the sacred ground before he could access functions like summoning such beasts into the real world? After all, if beast cores and ambrosia packages could manifest here, surely the same law applied to the beasts themselves!
Unbeknownst to him, the same fiery ambition in his heart was being mirrored on the face of the person whose silhouette he was focused on. A thousand feet above him, cutting through the disturbed wind, Nadir Bloodfly was roaring at his crew in a fit of rage.
"Those scheming fuckers will pay! I swear I’m going to fuck over anybody from their lineage at every opportunity I can find!"
"Can you clearly explain what’s going on, first?!" Ania yelled back at him, sharing the confused look of the other members of the team.
"Did you discover something when you went downstairs to check the setup?" Boris voiced his guess, appearing much calmer.
"Exactly!" Nadir shouted.
"Got a call from one of my sister’s plants in the company board. The directors have apparently decided to negotiate a contract with one of the secret allies of the Helios Clan! They want to snatch away our project and weaken my sister’s footing further!"
"Fucking hell! Won’t your clan interfere?! This is cheating! Those guys are literally breaking the law to screw us over!"
Eskandar began to curse profusely. The collective speed of their flight increased with each passing moment.
"Why would they interfere? Nobody expects the Helios Clan to sit by and watch us spread our network through Peacock District. Helios Clan is going to fight dirty wherever they can. But I didn’t expect that so many fat, greedy rats were hiding in our own company! How dare they! Assholes! Motherf-"
"Stop cursing! This isn’t the time to throw tantrums," Boris shouted authoritatively.
"Since the board of directors dared to hold the meeting, they probably have some way to defend the decision. That’s why they sent us here with a faulty setup, hoping to delay our recruitment. What do you think will happen if we return to the head office now and walk into the meeting?"
His detached voice seemed to act like a charm against the agitated demeanour of the rest of the group. Even Nadir’s face regained some clarity.
"If we’re lucky, we can stop the meeting before a contract gets finalized. Otherwise, they’ll just tell us that the company has selected suitable recruits already according to its convenience and better contract benefits. We wouldn’t be able to contest that lawfully."
"Why not?" Merida asked in bewilderment.
"They can simply accuse us of something like delaying the project’s initiation or misusing the funding. After all, they have full access to all the official records. It’s easy to fake some documents and bank statements. Remember, we’re outsiders here. Even though Nadir’s family is a stakeholder of Red Sea Labs, Nadir or his sister can’t boss them around," Boris explained patiently.
"If they’re so powerful, they can assert those things even if we reach the boardroom before the meeting ends, right? Doesn’t that mean we’re doomed?" Merida instantly grasped the problem.
"So what are we supposed to do?" Eskandar said in despair.
"...Guys, I have a plan," Nadir finally spoke again, attracting everyone’s focus. Turning his neck, he stared down at the minute view of School No. W-15, where his soon-to-be recruits were headed to their next test.
"If they want to play dirty, why can’t we? Just follow my lead!"
