I Became The Administrator of A Sacred Ground -
Chapter 45: Hunger
Chapter 45: Hunger
Nadir didn’t waste one extra second on the rooftop upon hearing the news. While he disappeared under the stairwell, leaving the Red Sea Lab employee behind.
Euri strode forward to speak to him, but his attempt was cut off when the other four superhumans dragged the guy off to a distant corner of the roof.
Even Euri couldn’t get close enough this time without making himself too conspicuous. But he could eavesdrop on the two teachers who had turned up alongside the employee.
As they tried to avoid the crowd of students, they ended up chatting just under Euri’s earshot.
Throughout the next five minutes, he only caught some loose strands of voices in the wind. But that was more or less enough to reach his own explanation.
It seemed that the AI evaluation system had performed without a hitch for the first and second groups of students. But starting from Euri’s batch, it had begun showing erratic deviations from the evaluation templates, suddenly readjusting its previous grading.
The overseers had initially assumed that someone with remarkable answers had caused this impact. Euri himself had thought that his unusual answer script might be the cause.
But it seemed that he was overestimating his capabilities.
After the fourth group of examinees had taken their test, the overseers discovered a technical issue in the algorithm; a problem that wasn’t supposed to exist unless someone intentionally messed with the program while setting it up.
With that understanding, Euri reached the same conclusion as the four superhumans did. Someone, whose interests didn’t align with Red Sea Lab’s activities in this school, was behind this malfunction.
This was clearly another incident centered around the power struggle of giants. What remained to be seen was what they hoped to gain from planning it.
After all, it was a simple test that could be conducted again, anytime. What benefit could it bring except a delay of a couple of hours?
Just about ten minutes later, Nadir returned to the rooftop, his face red and sweaty. On his wrist, his comcell was blinking nonstop. Anyone with good eyesight would be able to tell that his inbox was being absolutely flooded by messages.
Nadir looked around, scanned the crowd of eighty students with an icy gaze, and took a deep breath, gesturing at his fellow superhumans to stay silent and follow him. Together, they parted the crowd and came to stand in front of the frolicking eagles.
"Students, congratulations on qualifying for the second phase of the recruitment test!"
He shouted with his arms wide open, addressing them all rather confidently for a guy who had looked out of his element a minute ago.
"Wait, all of us qualified? Nobody failed?" Shenna, the class monitor, sounded like he couldn’t believe his ears.
"Indeed. You’ve done a tremendous job, I must say. I hadn’t expected such a performance from a school of this sort...Ahem."
Realizing that he had misspoken, Nadir hid the awkwardness expertly with some realistic coughs and moved on to the next issue.
"Now, our original schedule for today was quite extensive, especially this introduction phase. But due to some sudden administrative emergencies back in the company, we’ll have to skip things. The five of us are in charge of the entire recruitment and training project this year. So we will now introduce ourselves formally for future references. Starting with myself...
"I am Nadir Bloodfly, a second-generation superhuman from a corollary branch of the Bloodfly Bloodline. I graduated from a private academic program last year. Since then I have been working under the Red Sea Labs Company as an intern.
"This is, officially, my first big project! So I hope for your success as much as you guys do!"
Clapping his palms together to add an impact to his speech, Nadir paused, smiled brightly at the silent crowd, and then added,
"I am at the cusp of becoming a Rank-1 lifeform. And those of you who can accompany us to the success of our project, in all probabilities, shall also gain the opportunity to be on my trail!"
The crowd could no longer stay silent this time. A clear promise has been made! The recruitment would give them exactly what they dreamed of!
Recalling Nadir’s boasts about hitting 1.5 points in terms of physical evaluation, Euri couldn’t help but wonder whether this scale was the same one used for his own physique rating in the game.
He himself stood at 1.22 points, but that had already made him much stronger than the average unathletic people.
How much stronger was Nadir Bloodfly? Could he take him on in a fight?
A thirst to test him broke out in Euri’s heart, which he had to suppress as his common sense kicked in. He couldn’t go around fighting every strong person for experiments. That would lead to some dangerous rabbit holes with no way out.
"Maybe when I reach 1.5 points too. Yeah, that’d be safer...."
"What did you say?" Jaakie nudged him from his side suspiciously.
"Look, Jaakie. Isn’t that girl the type you like the most?" Euri said, nudging him back. Jaakie took one look at the girl who was taking off her hat and face mask while replacing Nadir, and the look in his eyes immediately changed.
Tall and healthy, with tanned skin and mid-length black hair, this girl embodied all aspects of Jaakie’s romantic dreams. Euri had seen his buddy dig out the bedrock of entertainment networks for photos of women who remotely fit those requirements.
She introduced herself as Ania. The lack of a surname meant that she probably wasn’t from an influential clan. Her graduation was from a famous Heart-zone school, indicating the possibility of financial affluence.
As for her strength, she gave a rather vague statement.
"I am just at the midpoint of the journey to Rank-1, ahaha. I’m the weakest one among your handlers, but the closest one to you guys in terms of lifeform quality. So I think we’ll get along very well!"
Although she appeared very easygoing and friendly, Euri could recall distinctly that she was the one with the most snobbish attitude towards the students back when they were chatting on top of the water tank.
So he turned to warn Jaakie not to make moves on her, only to notice the utterly enamored look on Jaakie’s face as he was staring at the girl.
This couldn’t possibly end on a happy note, it seemed.
