I Became My Elf King Character In A Game-Like World -
Chapter 72: Taunting
Chapter 72: Taunting
Renjiro gave a slight nod, absorbing the information.
"The Giant Golems’ Taunt is like mind control, but much, much stronger," he explained thoughtfully. "Even incredibly powerful warriors can’t simply ignore it. They’re simply forced to attack the golems, losing all control."
"Your Majesty!" Elaria’s eyes lit up with an idea. "Thinking ahead... if we run into stronger enemies like tenth circle or maybe even eleventh circle enemies, could we maybe surround them with Giant Golems? Have each one taunt from a different direction?"
Renjiro paused, genuinely struck by her suggestion. ’That... might actually work!’
He only had ten Giant Golems right now, but he could summon more later, building up their numbers. He pictured it: a vast army of Giant Golems, roaring and taunting, driving an enemy force into chaos. The mental image alone was chilling for Renjiro.
’Could we actually taunt powerful foes into going completely mad?’
"A very Interesting thought... Elaria... a very interesting one." Renjiro murmured aloud. "Maybe I should form a unit of Golems purely for this strategy? Let them soak up the attacks upfront, like perfect shields, while the Archers deliver overwhelming firepower from the safety of the back lines."
He took a slow breath, a smirk touching his lips. "Heh, that combination sounds practically unbeatable!"
He could vividly imagine it now. Enemies facing that taunt tactic on the battlefield would likely crumble, shot down by a relentless hail of arrows before they could even get close to the lines or set their mind straight from the taunt.
....
The battle against the Ogre tribe was already nearing its end.
From positions outside the fray, Elf Archers stood calm and focused, losing volley after volley into the Ogre camp. The ground was becoming thick with fallen Ogres and their blood.
Just as Renjiro had envisioned, his ten Giant Golems bulldozed into the centre of the Ogre encampment. Their roars echoed as they smashed nearby Ogres and, more importantly, drew the aggro of those further off with their powerful taunts.
The moment an Ogre locked onto a Golem, it became an easy target for the Archers’ coordinated shots.
At the same time, the ten thousand Huntresses Renjiro had deployed surged across the field on their swift panther mounts. Their Silver Moon Scimitars flashed, efficiently cutting down the remaining Ogres or the one who tried to fled.
Time seemed to crawl, but the number of Ogres still standing dwindled rapidly.
Suddenly, a dazzling white light flared, expanding to cover hundreds of meters. A potent shield shimmered into existence, bathing dozens of Huntresses in its protective glow.
It was Elaria’s ultimate ability: Moon God’s Sanctuary!
Casting such a powerful spell took its toll. Elaria’s face paled noticeably; as an early Ninth Circle mage, summoning the Sanctuary pushed her to her limits, draining her magical energy reserves too fast for her to handle.
She quickly retrieved a small vial of shimmering Water from her storage ring and drank it. Warmth spread through her, and the healthy color slowly returned to her cheeks.
Renjiro watched her with concern. "Don’t overexert yourself like that again," he said gently but firmly. "This battle’s outcome was never in doubt."
Elaria offered a small smile. "I know, Your Majesty. I just..."
Moon God’s Sanctuary could be cast as a wide-area shield or focused on one person like a barrier.
She hadn’t wanted to risk even a single Huntress falling, prompting her use of the large-scale shield.
Renjiro gazed back at the battlefield. Elaria probably didn’t realize the Huntresses were already buffed with his Intermediate Defense Enhancement, giving them a 50% boost to their toughness.
Their chances of dying were slim to begin with, especially facing Ogres while having such a massive numbers advantage. Indeed, he hadn’t seen a single casualty among them yet.
....
Across the field, the Giant Golems continued their roaring rampage. Heaps of Ogre bodies lay around their feet, all drawn in by the taunts, only to be picked off by the ever-vigilant Elf Archers watching from the perimeter.
Elaria sighed, a note of awe in her voice. "The synergy between the Giant Golems and the Archers... it’s truly fearsome! With enough Golems, I feel like we could take on forces far larger than our own and still win."
Renjiro silently agreed. The Golems Taunt ability was a game-changer, bordering on unfair. Combined with their ’Giant Rock like Body Defense’ that shrugs off both physical hits and magic to certain limits, they were the ultimate tanks, perfectly suited to keep the fragile, high-damage attack power Archers safe.
"Your Majesty!" A bright, childlike voice piped up. It was Sylphie, the Unicorn. "Sylphie wants to fight too! Let Sylphie help the elves defeat the filthy Ogres!"
Renjiro turned to her. "Not this time, Sylphie. The fight is almost done."
"Oh... okay." Sylphie’s ears drooped slightly, her tone laced with disappointment. She hated feeling useless to Renjiro.
’But I’m strong! she thought fiercely. I’m a Tenth-circle beast, a rare Sacred beast! I could really help!’
Renjiro chuckled softly at her crestfallen expression. He reached out and gently stroked her mane. "Don’t worry," he reassured her kindly.
"When we head into the mountains to deal with those tribes, you’ll get your chance to shine."
"Huh!? Okay, Your Majesty!" Sylphie instantly perked up, her magnificent, snow-white wings giving a happy little flutter.
Those wings were breathtaking, spanning several meters, they radiated a soft, shimmering white light, imbued with an aura of sacred energy. They were grand and beautiful, reminding Renjiro of depictions of angel wings, though he’d never encountered such beings himself.
....
Roughly ten minutes later, silence fell over the battlefield.
The fight was well and truly over. Thousands of Ogre corpses littered the clearing, the ground soaked crimson.
Remarkably, only a handful of Huntresses got minor wounds. Not a single elf life had been lost. It was a testament to their superior numbers, the flawless execution of the Giant Golems taunt strategy, and the timely protection from Elaria’s skill.
The Ogres never stood a chance. The Archers, positioned safely away from the melee, were completely untouched.
It was, undeniably, another perfect victory.
