Chapter 73: New Summoning Units
Chapter 73: New Summoning Units
With the battle won, the elves efficiently cleared the ogre tribe’s rough settlement and the Giant Leader’s imposing stone palace.
While they gathered only a handful of gold coins and some tarnished silverware, the real treasure was the discovery of tens of thousands of magic cores.
Even Renjiro was taken aback by the sheer quantity.
"These all ’cores’..." Renjiro breathed, his eyes wide. "They must be worth millions of gold, at least!"
Elaria knelt, carefully examining the cores piled in a crate. "Your Majesty," she reported, "Most of these do seem to be from high-level Magical beasts and monsters. Based on their quality, this entire collection could likely fetch three, maybe even four million gold."
A satisfied smile spread across Renjiro’s face. "Well, it looks like the Ironcrest Merchant Guild might struggle to afford this particular haul!"
With a casual wave of his right hand, he swept the coins, silverware, and the mountain of magic cores into his spatial ring. Instantly, as the gold entered the ring, the System absorbed it.
Renjiro checked his System balance. Less than 30,000 gold. Odd, he thought, recalling the much larger sum they’d recovered from the goblin nest.
"It seems the ogres and their giant leader just didn’t care for shiny trinkets like gold and silver. No wonder they didn’t bother hoarding them."
The abundance of magical cores of beast and the monsters, however, made perfect sense. Ogres hunted everything that moved in the forest, and these cores were likely just accidental trophies from their countless kills for food or whatever.
Right on cue, as if sensing the lull, the familiar, emotionless voice of the System echoed in his mind:
"Ah!?" Renjiro reacted, caught slightly off guard.
[Quest Complete: Ultimate Novice Task]
[Objective Achieved: Slay Ogre Giant Leader, Destroy Ogre Tribe.]
[Congratulations, User.]
[Status Update: Goblin Territory eliminated. Dark Wolf Territory eliminated. Giant Leader of Ogre Tribe eliminated. Current Forest Inhabitants: Elves (User controlled). You are now the undisputed Ruler of the Forest. Entry requires your permission. This is your domain, the Elves Territory!]
[Reward Granted for Task Completion:]
[Building Unlocked: Elder Tree of Wisdom (Wizard circle)]
[Notice: Novice Phase Complete. User will now engage on the continental stage, competing with powerful races for vital resources. This path is fraught with danger. Proceed with caution!]
"Caution, huh?" Renjiro echoed thoughtfully.
[Assessment: Expanding Territory presents significant challenges for the User.]
"No kidding," Renjiro agreed, thinking aloud. "This whole Continent... it’s massive. No single race has ever ruled it all. Even the Elf’s, at its absolute peak, only held maybe half the land."
[Correction: User’s historical data is incomplete. In the past Era (approx. >500,000 years prior), Titans ruled the entire
Continent. To them, even dragons were little more than prey.]"Titans?" Renjiro repeated, his surprise evident. "You mean they were real? That race actually existed?"
[Affirmative. However, they departed the Continent ages ago. They ascended to the new plane, establishing the Titan Divine System among the stars—an eternal power structure rivaling the Light God System.]
"System, you even know about things like that?" Renjiro asked, genuinely impressed now.
[My knowledge base is comprehensive.]
Renjiro fell silent, processing this revelation. Shaking his head slightly to clear it, he shifted topics. "Okay, System... this Elder Tree of Wisdom. What exactly is it? Is it like a library, something to boost the elves’ knowledge?"
[Negative. The Elder Tree of Wisdom, similar to the Tree of Battleborn, functions as a high-circle unit summoning structure.]
[Available Units via Elder Tree of Wisdom (Requires Gold): Spirit of the Grove (Peak circle 7), Shapeshifting Sage (Peak circle 8), Giant Golem (Peak circle 9).]
Renjiro’s eyes widened in genuine shock. ’Giant Golems?’ He could summon Giant Golems now? His planned ’battlefield taunt’ strategy, the one built around massive, durable units... it wasn’t just a dream anymore!
"Alright, System, tell me about these Spirit of the Groves. What are they?"
[Spirit of the Groves: A branch of the Forest Elf lineage. Physically small with delicate features, akin to elemental sprites. They sustain themselves on raw arboreal essence.]
[Notable Ability (Spirit of the Grove): Innate Magic Immunity, comparable to that of Dragons. They are impervious to all forms of magical assault.]
[Combat Role: Can be classified as elven magic-users. Their attacks possess a natural toxic effect. Any target struck by a Spirit of the Grove will suffer from poisoning.]
Peak circle 7, poisonous attacks, and magic immunity... Renjiro mused silently. "These Spirit of the Groves sound incredibly potent!"
Dragons, though? The System mentioned them like they were common knowledge. Renjiro frowned, searching his memory.
’Do the elves even have Dragons?’ He drew a blank. Nothing about them, or Spirit of the Groves for that matter, appeared in any elven lore he knew.
He knew the elves once had powerful practitioners capable of shapeshifting – into eagles, mighty sea lions... perhaps even dragons, according to some legends. But that knowledge, the path to becoming an elven Druid, vanished with the collapse of the past.
"System, so what’s the deal with these Shapeshifting Sage?"
[Shapeshifting Sage: Classified as an Elven Unit, but distinct from Elves. Base form resembles an Bearman. Upon shifting into Battle Bear, they gain significantly enhanced Defense, Attack Power, and Vitality, augmented by a Totem Aura effect.]
"Wait, so they turn into bears? Not eagles?" Renjiro asked, clarifying.
[Clarification: Transformation into a War Eagle is the domain of the Windshaper. This unit is not summonable via the Elder Tree of Wisdom.]
"Got it." Renjiro nodded, absorbing the information. For now, he had enough to think about.
’Shapeshifting Sage, Windshaper...’ Renjiro mused. Whatever the specific name, they were powerful, high-circle elven units. Summoning them was definitely a goal.
But the immediate hurdle, the one blocking his path forward, was gold. A lot of gold.
This entire, bloody war against the ogre tribe had earned him less than thirty thousand gold coins.
Enough to summon a few hundred Archers, maybe, but a mere drop in the ocean compared to the astronomical cost of summoning elite forces like Druids or the newly unlocked Giant Golems.
And those tens of thousands of magic cores, glittering with potential millions of gold?
Right now, they were just shiny rocks. Useless until he could find a buyer wealthy—and perhaps foolish—enough to take them off his hands.
