Chapter 40: The Product

Gorren gaze unintentionally drifted toward Theron, the mighty Knight, now a pathetic wool-covered creature standing awkwardly in the middle of the hall.

The moment Theron opened his mouth to speak, only a pathetic bleat escaped.

"Meeaahhh!" The former knight froze, his expression contorting in utter humiliation. This was the man who once terrified enemies on the battlefield.

A legendary ninth-circle knight. A warrior feared throughout the City. Now? Now he was just a sheep. The realization was too much.

If word got out, Theron wouldn’t just lose his reputation, he wouldn’t even be able to show his face in the city again. Let alone lead the Knights.

He’d be the laughingstock of every noble in the kingdom. Gorren swallowed dryly before quickly adjusting his tone.

"Your Majesty," he said hastily, his voice unnaturally polite, "could you... perhaps, lift the transformation spell on Sir Theron?"

"He acted out of impulse, but he meant no disrespect toward you." Renjiro leaned back slightly, regarding Gorren with a look of mild amusement.

"No disrespect?" His lips curled ever so slightly. "The esteemed Knight Commander of your City came into my forest, leading a team of knights and mages with the goal of capturing a sacred beast that belongs to my people."

"Turning him into a sheep was just a small punishment." Gorren felt his chest tighten.

"A small punishment?" If this was a small punishment, then what would a real punishment look like?

Renjiro’s voice remained calm, but there was an unmistakable edge to it.

"If your lord is willing to pay the two million gold compensation, I may consider returning you knight Theron to him in his original form."

Gorren fell silent. Two million gold coins. That amount was ridiculous. Even for a powerful Merchant Guild like Ironcrest Trading, it was an amount that would make anyone feel pain on giving.

’Impossible,’ Gorren thought bitterly. There was no way their lord would agree. But then, another thought crossed his mind.

’The Holy Temple...’ His gaze flickered with hidden intent. The Holy Temple was known to have priests capable of using divine purification spells. ’If we can just get Theron to the temple, surely they can remove this curse.’

If Renjiro’s magic was transformative druid magic of some sort or like a curse, then divine magic might be the perfect countermeasure.

Yes, All they needed to do was bring Theron back to City and have the priests undo the spell. Gorren quickly composed himself, his mind now set on a new plan.

What he didn’t realize was that, It wouldn’t work. Because unlike ordinary transformation spells, Renjiro’s dagger transdormation spell was absolute.

Only he could reverse it. And Theron? Since he had failed to reach the next advancement in his strength, his transformation was permanent unless he reversed it.

Just like the thirty thousand goblins in the Underground territory... Who were now nothing more than a massive herd of sheep.

"Your Majesty, the wyvern has been brought here. It’s waiting outside the hall." Elaria entered the grand hall, holding her magical staff in hand.

"A wyvern?!" Gorren and Lyra’s faces filled with shock.

Only magical beasts with dragon blood running through their veins could be classified as wyverns. And wyverns, even on the Continent, were a rarity. In the City, they were practically unheard of.

Without wasting a second, the two rushed out of the hall, eager to witness this mythical beast for themselves. Theron, still in his sheep form, quickly followed them.

However, before they had even stepped outside for long, a sudden, terrified scream rang through the air. Renjiro and Elaria hurried to the entrance of the hall.

What they saw made them freeze.

The massive, starved wyvern had clamped its jaws around Theron the sheep, nearly swallowing him whole. Its hungry, glowing eyes made it clear, it was starving for some food.

Gorren’s face turned an alarming shade of green.

"Your Majesty, please! We can talk this out! You must order it to let go!" Theron wasn’t just any knight; he was a Ninth-circle Knight, as well as the commander of the Knights in the city. He absolutely could not be reduced to nothing more than a snack for a starving wyvern.

If that happened, how could Gorren possibly explain this to his lord? What could he even say?

’My Lord, I regret to inform you that your most trusted Knight was turned into a sheep by the Elf King using a druid transformation spell... and then, well, he was promptly eaten alive by a hungry wyvern.’

No noble in their right mind would believe such an absurd tale! As soon as Renjiro stepped outside, the wyvern froze in place.

It instinctively tightened its grip on the fat sheep in its mouth but didn’t dare to bite down any further.

"Put him down," Renjiro ordered in a calm but firm voice.

The wyvern let out a low whimper, clearly reluctant. But it didn’t dare disobey. With a deep sigh, it carefully placed the trembling sheep which was Theron back on the ground.

However, before releasing its grip entirely, it took the opportunity to drag its wet, slimy tongue across Theron’s soft body, licking him thoroughly.

"Bwuuuhhh!" The wyvern let out a satisfied growl.

Ever since it had feasted on the goblin king who had been turned into a sheep the day before, it had developed a taste for it. It found sheep meat to be exceptionally tender, juicy, and, above all, perfectly seasoned with just the right amount of musk. It was a flavor that suited its tastes perfectly.

Theron, still in his sheep form, stood there trembling from head to hoof. Though it wasn’t confirmed whether he was afraid of wyvern or the humiliation of being even unable to fight back.

Never in his life had he imagined that one day he would be transformed into a fat, helpless sheep... and then nearly swallowed whole by a starving wyvern.

This was, without a doubt, the most nightmarish experience of his entire existence.

Renjiro frowned slightly. "You didn’t feed it?"

Elaria covered her mouth with a chuckle. "Your Majesty, I asked Commander Lorien, but she said the wyvern refuses to eat fruit."

Renjiro nodded in understanding. That made sense. Unfortunately for the wyvern, the elven territory didn’t stockpile meat.
