Chapter 29: Class Change
Chapter 29: Class Change
Renjiro’s expression softened at her determination. "That’s a noble dream, Vanya. Becoming a warrior isn’t easy, but if you work hard, I have no doubt you’ll become a great archer one day."
The little girl nodded eagerly. "I’ll train every day!"
Renjiro’s tone became firm, but there was warmth in his voice. "Remember, Vanya, you must train daily, eat well, and listen to your elders. If you stay strong and healthy, one day, you will become an archer too."
Vanya’s eyes widened with excitement. She clenched her tiny fists and declared, "I understand! I will train every day and eat plenty, and then I will become an archer!"
Renjiro chuckled at her enthusiasm and set her down. "Good girl. But don’t forget to play and have fun too." He watched as she ran back to her friends, still full of energy.
As evening fell, the Elves gathered for a well-earned feast, celebrating their victory over the Goblins. The soft glow of enchanted lanterns lit up the settlement, casting a golden light over the lively festival. Elven musicians played gentle melodies on harps and flutes, while the delicious smell of freshly cooked food filled the air.
After the meal, Renjiro gathered his closest allies—Elaria, Lorien, Selena, and Lirael—and led them deep into the heart of the Elven lands. Their destination was the Forbidden Grove, a sacred place untouched by time.
The ancient trees stood tall, whispering stories of the past, and the air was thick with old magic.
They stopped in a clearing bathed in moonlight. Renjiro looked up at the sky, took a deep breath, and gave a command.
"System, construct the Heroic Altar."
A deep, thunderous sound echoed across the land as golden light burst from the ground. In the center of the clearing, a massive structure began to rise as if answering a call.
The Heroic Altar was built.
Standing nearly twenty meters tall, it glowed with a soft, golden light. The surface was covered in strange, glowing runes, each pulsing with power. The air around it crackled with energy, making it clear that this was no ordinary shrine.
Elaria stepped forward, staring at the altar with wide eyes. "Your Majesty... is this a shrine to the Goddess?" she asked hesitantly.
Behind her, Lorien, Selena, and Lirael stood in silence, sharing the same confusion. The Elven land already had a sacred shrine where they prayed to their Goddess. But this altar was different.
Even more shocking was how Renjiro had created it. With a single command, divine light had descended, and in mere moments, the Heroic Altar had risen from the ground.
Renjiro chuckled at their puzzled expressions. "This isn’t a shrine to the Goddess," he said, excitement in his voice. "This altar belongs only to the Elves. It is the Heroic Altar."
"The Heroic Altar...?"
Elaria and the others exchanged uncertain glances. They had never heard of such a thing.
Renjiro continued, his voice full of authority. "This altar holds great power. Any Elf who completes the ceremony here will grow stronger, becoming a Heroic Elf. Unlike normal Elves, Heroic Elves will gain unique abilities—powers beyond ordinary magic and combat skills. They will possess Heroic Skills, something only heroes can have."
The four Elves stared at the altar, absorbing his words.
A Heroic Elf...?
The idea sent chills through them. Though they had never heard of this before, they could tell that this transformation would be unlike anything their race had ever known.
Elaria took a deep breath before asking, "Your Majesty... can I become a Heroic Elf?"
Renjiro smiled. "Yes. Every Elf in our land will have the chance to ascend. However, there is one condition."
He paused, letting anticipation build before revealing the cost.
"To undergo the Heroic Ascension, each transformation requires one hundred thousand gold coins."
A sharp intake of breath followed his words.
One hundred thousand gold?!
The three commanders, experienced warriors who had led many battles, were stunned. That amount of gold could summon an entire army of Elves from the Divine Realm. With those soldiers, they could greatly strengthen their kingdom.
Elaria was the first to speak, shaking her head. "Your Majesty, wouldn’t it be wiser to use that money to summon more warriors? More people would make our territory safer."
Renjiro simply chuckled. "Don’t worry about resources," he assured them. "The Heroic Altar only works once per full moon, and it can only transform one Elf at a time. That means even if we had unlimited gold, we could still only create one Heroic Elf per cycle. The rest of our funds can be used for other needs."
Elaria frowned, thinking carefully. "So the next activation will be... in half a month," she murmured.
Renjiro nodded.
At that moment, a familiar voice echoed in his mind.
[The User has successfully constructed the Heroic Altar. As a reward, the first Heroic Ascension can be performed immediately.]
Renjiro’s eyes widened slightly.
Immediately?
He hadn’t expected an early activation, but it was a welcome surprise. Without hesitation, he turned to the four Elves before him.
"The Heroic Altar is ready," he announced. "We can perform the first ascension right now."
Renjiro’s words hung in the air.
Elaria and the others stiffened, fully grasping the significance of what was about to happen.
"The first ascension?" Selena asked, her voice carrying both excitement and uncertainty. "Then... who will receive this honor?"
Renjiro smiled. "That’s what I want to ask you. Who among us should take this first step?"
The three commanders exchanged glances, but there was no hesitation. Almost in unison, they turned toward Elaria.
"Your Majesty, Elaria is the best choice."
Renjiro raised an eyebrow. "Oh?"
Lorien spoke first. "Elaria is the only Eighth-circle Elf in our domain. She has the highest potential to ascend."
Selena nodded. "Not only that, but she is also your betrothed, Your Majesty. As the future Queen, her strength should reflect her position."
Lirael crossed her arms. "It’s only right that the Elf Queen stands at the pinnacle of power."
Elaria’s lips parted slightly as if to protest, but no words came.
Her fingers curled into fists as emotions surged through her. A part of her burned with desire for this chance—the opportunity to go beyond her current limits, to wield power unlike anything she had ever known. But another part of her hesitated, unsure if she was truly worthy.
"Your Majesty... I..."
Renjiro studied her carefully. The weight of this decision was heavy, but he could see the truth in her eyes. She wanted this.
His smile was gentle as he extended a hand toward her. "Elaria... do you wish to become a Heroic Elf?"
She hesitated only for a moment before taking a deep breath. Then, she met his gaze, her eyes filled with certainty.
"Yes, Your Majesty. I do."
