Chapter 110: Ten Thousand

’So the real test wasn’t just them, he thought, his jaw tightening. It was that Dragon Ghost! The system hadn’t mentioned the ghost as part of the mine’s battle. Sneaky system... If I hadn’t recruited Varn, fighting that spectral dragon would’ve been a nightmare.’

His daggers, sharp as they were, would’ve been nearly useless against a ghost. Varn’s necromancy had saved him a brutal fight.

Still, excitement bubbled up. Ancient Treants! He remembered stories of the old Elven Territory, when treants were their mightiest warriors. After the empire fell, the knowledge to summon them was lost.

’Ancient Treants are peak Tenth-Circle units, he thought, his grin returning. A group of them could probably crush Bone Dragon bones without breaking a branch!’

Trying to stay calm, he focused on the system again. "System, how much gold does it cost to summon an Ancient Treant?" he asked, his voice steady despite the thrill in his chest.

The system quickly replied to Renjiro.

«Respected User, you can spend 10,000 gold coins to awaken a thousand-year-old tree into an Ancient Treant. Each Ancient Treant possesses strength reaching the peak of Tenth circle!»

"Ten thousand gold?"

Renjiro didn’t think that was too expensive.

After all, summoning a Giant Golem cost 5,000 gold back on the Ninth Circle Peak.

An Ancient Treant, even at peak Tenth circle strength, was only twice the price.

The real problem was finding the thousand-year-old trees needed for the summoning. There definitely weren’t any trees that old on this specific mountain. The surrounding forest might have a few, but probably not many – maybe three to five at most.

’If I want to find a lot of thousand-year-old trees, I’ll probably have to go to the Mountain of the Gods!’

The Mountain of the Gods was located in the northern part of the continent, deep within Dwarven territory.

The kingdom of the Dwarves itself was situated upon those very mountains.

Thinking about the Dwarves...

Renjiro’s expression soured slightly.

Back in the era of the Elven Empire, the Dwarves and Elves had been very close allies. The Elven armies even included an elite Dwarven unit – the famed Raging Ram Brigade.

This Dwarven force had played a crucial role during the war against the Abyss Demons, fighting alongside the Elves.

But...

After the Abyss Demons were defeated, the Elven Empire was torn apart by internal conflicts and schemes. Then, pressured by four other races – including the Dwarves – the empire finally collapsed.

In other words, the Dwarves had betrayed the Elves.

In the end, the Dwarves got exactly what they coveted: the entire Mountain of the Gods, which had originally been part of the Elf Empire’s lands.

"System, show me the Ancient Treant’s details!"

A virtual panel shimmered into view before Renjiro, displaying the information for the Ancient Treant.

[Ancient Treant]

Description: One of the most powerful Elven units, born with the strength to challenge dragons. They are the guardians of the Elves. On a forest battlefield, even Giant Golems and Golden Behemoths would find it hard to defeat these ancient protectors of nature.

Rank: Peak Tenth circle

Abilities:

Nature’s Grasp: The Ancient Treant can summon incredibly tough vines to entangle all enemies within a one-kilometer radius. Only incorporeal beings can ignore this effect.

Giantwood Hurl: Drawing on nature’s power, the Ancient Treant forms massive, sharpened logs tens of meters long and hurls them at enemies. Even the strongest walls cannot easily resist this attack.

Aura of Restoration: Injured Elves gathered near the Ancient Treant will find their wounds healing rapidly.

Summoning Cost:

10,000 Gold, 1 Thousand-Year-Old Tree

Looking over the Ancient Treant’s details, Renjiro showed genuine surprise.

He realized the Ancient Treant actually had three special abilities: Nature’s Grasp, Giantwood Hurl, and Aura of Restoration.

The first two were active skills, while the last was a passive aura.

Until now, all the Elven units he could summon only had two abilities. With three, the Ancient Treant truly lived up to its reputation as a peak Tenth circle guardian of the Elves.

’Looks like I’ll have to make a trip to the Mountain of the Gods eventually,’ Renjiro thought.

The Mountain of the Gods was said to be the oldest mountain range on the continent.

Legends claimed it was the birthplace of faith for many true gods, and some whispered that the secret to achieving godhood itself was hidden within its peaks.

Of course, none of that mattered much to Renjiro right now. He was only interested in the ancient trees that grew there.

In such an old and vast mountain range, there were bound to be countless thousand-year-old trees – more than enough to summon a large force of Ancient Treants.

However, the Mountain of the Gods was far to the north, a long journey from his current location. He’d likely have to pass straight through the territory of the main Empire to get there.

’No need to rush, though.’

There were still those few ancient trees in this forest he could use for the time being.

’First, I need to establish our Elven sanctuary here in the forest. Then, I need to upgrade the Eternal Tree into an True Eternal Tree. Once those two goals are complete, I can start planning the trip to the Mountain of the Gods.’

Besides just finding ancient trees, Renjiro had other reasons for eventually visiting the Mountain of the Gods.

He intended to pay a visit to the Dwarven Kingdom itself.

While the Dwarven capital was famously hidden and mysterious, its location wasn’t a secret to the Elves – or at least, not to him. He recalled that the original Elf Empire had granted the Dwarves a corner of the Mountain of the Gods as their territory back when they were allies, and it was there they built their kingdom. Clearly, that gift hadn’t been enough to satisfy their greed; they had wanted the entire range.

Shaking off those thoughts for now, Renjiro walked over to stand beneath the Tree of Wisdom.

Like the Eternal Tree, the Tree of Wisdom was a massive, ancient tree reaching a hundred meters tall.

He knew the Eternal Tree, the Tree of Wisdom, and the Tree of War were all different types of ancient trees, though he couldn’t identify the specific species. Not that it mattered much to him. In his eyes, they weren’t just trees; they were living Elven structures, vital parts of their growing home.

Renjiro was about to summon some more advanced Elves when his eyes caught the sight of Pixies fluttering through the air. He remembered them – now that the recent threat the ’Dragon Ghost’ had been dealt with, it was time for these little sprites to get to work.

Renjiro gave a gentle wave of his hand.

Sensing their King’s call, the Pixies in the air instantly zipped towards him, gathering in a dense, shimmering cloud.

Ten thousand tiny sprites surrounded Renjiro, their combined light creating a breathtaking spectacle that drew gasps of wonder from the other Elves nearby. It was an incredibly beautiful sight.

Buzz... hmmm

A gentle, collective hum arose from the Pixies, a sound filled with their respect and happiness towards their Elf King.

Renjiro gave the order like he owned the place.

"Alright, get to work! Go mine that gold underground for me!"

Whirr...

Instantly, the elves turned into streams of light and sank right into the ground.

It all happened incredibly fast. A system notification popped up for Renjiro: The elves were already busy mining the gold.

[- Info: 10,000 elves can gather 1 million gold coins each day.]

Elaria walked over, looking puzzled. "Your Majesty, where did all the elves go?"

She had been standing back a bit, talking quietly with Lorien, so she hadn’t seen the elves sink into the earth. When she looked up again, they were all gone, which seemed odd to her.

Renjiro answered simply, "I sent them to mine gold."

Elaria was shocked.

It took her a second, but then she remembered: elves were naturally skilled at mining.

Meanwhile, Renjiro opened the status screen for the Wisdom Elder Tree in his system interface.

He checked his gold count. He still had 4.39 million coins left.

That much gold was enough to summon a huge army of high-level elves.

"This time," Renjiro thought with excitement, "I’m summoning the Shapeshifting Sage too!"

It worked just like the Battleborn Tree.

Inside the Wisdom Elder Tree’s menu, there were three more unit types listed:

Spirit of the Grove, Shapeshifting Sage, and Giant Golem.

These three advanced elf units were ranked Circle 7, Circle 8, and Circle 9.

Renjiro already had Treeants and Giant Golems under his command. Of these three specific units from the Wisdom Tree, only the Shapeshifting Sage was one he hadn’t summoned yet.

From the system description:

The Shapeshifting Sage were obviously very strong fighters.

When they changed into their bear form, they had the strength of powerful beasts. They could also project a battle aura, kind of like what orc beastmasters use, making nearby allies stronger and even healing wounded friends a bit.

Basically, when they hit the battlefield...
