I Ascend to the Divine Throne through Arcane Means -
Chapter 928 - 562: The Bones on the Throne_2
The attempt to probe Jue, originally thought to be harmless, unexpectedly attracted the Legendary.
The main exploration of the City Lord Mansion, however, did not present any anomalies.
"Strange..."
Lis found it hard to grasp the intentions of the Legendary Mage Ihelos.
Could it be that his main base is located elsewhere in the small town?
Lis speculated, controlling his Avatar to move towards the area he sensed.
It was the largest room in the City Lord Mansion according to the information returned by Lis's Spell.
He intended to check out the situation there, as it couldn't have been for nothing.
Soon enough, Lis arrived at the center of the City Lord Mansion, pushed open the heavy door, and entered the hall.
A somewhat peculiar scene appeared before Lis's eyes.
This was a grand hall, vast and profound, seemingly a venue for grand noble banquets.
However, contrary to the lavish decor of typical banquet halls, this one abandoned all intricate carvings and luxurious utensils, revealing a unique simplicity and solemnity.
Under the towering dome, moonlight sparsely spilled onto the ground through the lattice windows, adding a touch of mystery and tranquility to the spacious area.
To Lis's surprise, rows of solid wooden racks stood like loyal guards along both sides of the hall.
Some racks were neatly arranged with armor glimmering coldly, some brand new and unused, their surfaces smooth as mirrors reflecting a cold brilliance; others bore marks of battle, cracks and dents telling tales of past valor and sacrifice, with dark red stains faintly visible, perhaps dried blood silently narrating stories of the past.
Other racks displayed an array of various weapons, quietly lying there, yet seemingly imbued with inexplicable power and stories.
The Longsword was extremely sharp, its tip flickering coldly; the Long Spear stood tall, its shaft straight like a pine tree, exuding an unyielding spirit; bow and arrow elegantly hung on the rack, though the bowstring was not fully drawn, one could sense the power poised to be unleashed; Heavy Hammer and Shield stood side by side, the former heavy and powerful, the latter solid and dependable, appearing as the most reliable Guardians here.
The entire hall, in Lis's view, resembled a living collection room of weaponry and equipment, where each weapon and set of armor seemed to bear the Dust of history and the warrior's Glory.
In this hall, there was not a trace of the nobles' lavish style, but rather an air of iron-blooded solemnity.
Lis looked at the weapons and equipment on both sides, stepped forward to take down a Longsword for a feel, shaking his head with some disappointment.
Although these weapons and equipment appeared quite remarkable, they possessed none of the Extraordinary Power.
No different from a useless stone, Lis could easily crush them.
This shouldn't be right, and why would the Legendary Mage's domain have such a collection room?
Could Ihelos have such a peculiar interest?
Or is it...connected to that?
Lis directed his gaze towards the furthest stretch of the hall.
In the deepest part of this ancient and mysterious hall, the light grew dimmer, as if even time slowed its pace here.
Lis's eyes traversed rows of weapons and armor, finally settling at the top of several steps on a green stone throne.
The throne was towering, its back extending upward like mountains, several meters high, imparting an insurmountable sense of authority. Its surface was engraved with simple mountain and storm patterns, intertwined symbolically representing the embodiment of earth and Storm, denoting power and conquest.
And at the center of these simple patterns, a Sword adornment was prominently visible, quietly embedded in the spine of the throne, its hilt delicately carved with thorny patterns, seemingly conveying a keen sharpness.
On this throne sat a bone remains.
The bone remains rested on the throne, retaining the king's majesty and composure, as if calmly facing the arrival of Death.
His head drooped slightly, the hollow eye sockets apparently gazing at the entire hall.
Embedded in the front chest of this skeleton was a Longsword, the grip wrapped with thorny pattern, identical in design to the Sword on the throne's spine.
Lis stood before the throne, closely examining the bone remains before him.
The whole skeleton was white as jade, showing no trace of dirt or bloodstains.
The skeleton was significantly larger than a normal one, indicating that when alive, the individual was likely around two meters tall.
Each bone was much thicker, suggesting the owner of the bones was physically robust.
Upon seeing this skeleton, Lis initially thought it might be the Legendary Mage Ihelos himself, but quickly realized that this guess was unlikely.
It wasn't surprising Lis thought so initially, merely that someone seated on such a throne was likely the master of this structure.
Perhaps due to the prolonged existence, the aura of this skeleton had completely dissipated, leaving Lis unable to assess its strength or weakness in life.
Judging solely from the outer appearance of the skeleton, in life he likely was a Warrior or other close-combat Professional.
Certainly, the possibility that this was a Mage couldn't be completely ruled out, although the probability was very low.
Additionally, the numerous weapons and equipment around the hall supported this point.
But it's quite odd; isn't the owner of the City Lord Mansion supposed to be the Legendary Mage Ihelos?
Why is there a bone remains seated on the throne here?
Furthermore, the surrounding weapons and equipment don't quite resemble a Mage's collection.
Could it be that Ihelos's City Lord isn't Ihelos but another Warrior Professional?
And why did he die here, the cause being stabbed by his own Longsword?
Judging by the angle of entry of the Longsword, it shouldn't have been done by the skeleton in life; rather there was external involvement.
Lis looked at the throne and skeleton, somewhat perplexed.
The unfolding within the City Lord Mansion indeed exceeded his expectations.
Lis inspected the Longsword embedded in the skeleton, finding that, like the weapons displayed on nearby racks, it possessed no special powers.
Shaking his head, unable to find other clues, Lis noted the situation here and left the hall.
Lis explored all remaining special places within the City Lord Mansion, yet discovered no further valuable information.
This City Lord Mansion indeed was bizarre...
Lis controlled the Avatar, used the Flying Technique to hover above the City Lord Mansion, looking down at it.
Thinking a bit, Lis controlled the Wind Element to form a pale blue illusory whirlwind, sweeping towards the City Lord Mansion below.
The pale blue gale quickly enveloped the entire City Lord Mansion, searching for any potential anomalies.
Hmm?
Lis's gaze instantly focused on the rear side of the City Lord Mansion.
It was an open space occupying nearly half of the City Lord Mansion area, devoid of any buildings, seemingly a training ground, with a small, delicate garden beyond.
Though, in Lis's perception, nothing existed here, the pale blue storm disappeared entirely upon reaching this place, as though swallowed up from nowhere.
What's happening?
Lis felt a bit amazed.
If not observed with the naked eye, he wouldn't have noticed anything strange here.
He knew the Spell he used was imbued with his spiritual power, enabling better control and serving as a detection and warning mechanism.
Yet this time, there was no feedback.
Was the spiritual power devoured as well?
Even if the spiritual power was absorbed, he should have noticed it, though?
Or perhaps feedback was given, but he subconsciously ignored it?
If not for viewing with the naked eye, would he continue to overlook it?
Is it the influence of an illusion?
Lis's mind swiftly pondered, while he controlled the Avatar to fly towards the empty ground.
Soon, where the gale was devoured, Lis encountered a seemingly illusory transparent wall.
There's indeed something wrong!
