I Ascend to the Divine Throne through Arcane Means -
Chapter 927 - 562: The Bones on the Throne
Lis controlled his avatar and headed toward the City Lord Mansion.
Under the night sky, the City Lord Mansion was extremely quiet; Lis observed outside for a long time without noticing any signs of activity.
Although it appeared somewhat grand on the outside, it was as lifeless as a long-abandoned haunted house.
Using a spirit avatar for this exploration, Lis did not activate a stealth state to ensure there were no detection measures within the City Lord Mansion.
He boldly walked across the street.
Up until he neared the edge of the City Lord Mansion, Lis's avatar did not trigger any defensive or alert measures, nor did it come under attack.
Though Lis found it strange, he didn't stop but continued controlling his avatar in the direction of the mansion.
Even when his avatar touched the stone wall of the mansion, Lis found nothing amiss.
"Strange..."
Lis frowned and controlled the avatar to use [Wall-Passing Technique] to enter the mansion.
Piercing through the thick walls, Lis entered the dwelling that symbolized the highest authority of this small city.
Lis controlled his avatar to look around. This seemed to be a room for storing miscellaneous items.
A small portion of the room was piled high with tables, chairs, wooden ladders, and cleaning tools like brooms and mops.
Lis touched the table beside him, glanced at the faint dust on his fingers.
This level of dust didn't seem like a long-neglected state.
After all, it's a storage room, and it's normal for it not to be cleaned for a while.
But Lis couldn't shake the feeling that something was off.
As he entered, the sense of eerie silence emanating from the mansion grew stronger.
It felt as if no one had been here for centuries.
From his conversations with Old Milo, Lis knew that out of respect for the City Lord, Ihelos's residents handled their own affairs.
This meant, essentially, there wouldn't be residents coming to the mansion to disturb things.
Except during the annual Gur Festival, City Lord Ihelos wouldn't show up in front of the residents, let alone issue orders.
But regardless of how you look at it, although the mansion was only three or four stories high, it took up a considerable area.
To maintain the day-to-day operation of the City Lord Mansion, it used to require dozens of servants,
it can't possibly be that the Legendary Mage would do the work himself, right?
But now the mansion, besides having no living beings, not even undead residents like Old Milo had any presence.
Is the Legendary Mage Ihelos really residing here?
Or was he always near the Golden Coconut Inn?
Lis wasn't sure.
In any case, this mansion hardly seemed like the stronghold of a Legendary Mage.
Lis already checked; the City Lord Mansion had no detection or defensive magic arrays set up.
Even a simple spell like Wall-Passing Technique could be executed successfully, without any interference, worse than a magic workshop set up by a low-level mage, not to mention compared to a mage tower filled with various prohibitive magic arrays.
Even human nobles without any extraordinary power would spend a fortune to hire mages for protective measures when building a castle, so there's no reason for the Legendary Mage to be so negligent.
The Legendary Mage's abilities might be comprehensive and powerful, but they are typically fragile, terribly afraid of being approached by professionals of the same rank or facing an assassination by a same-rank assassin.
Lis's situation was merely an exception.
Even when mage professionals ascend to legend, this aspect won't change much.
Not just Lis, even a Bronze Rank professional could freely come and go in the City Lord Mansion.
Lis stood in the mansion's corridor, observing the situation around both sides.
A few beams of bright moonlight sifted through the corridor's windows, spilling onto the deep green floor, adding a hint of illumination.
However, in the darkness where moonlight couldn't reach, the deep shadows seemed like a voracious abyssal maw, hungrily wanting to devour any life.
Lis pondered for a moment and controlled his avatar to directly use detection magic.
With such a large mansion, searching little by little would take too much time.
Why not use detection magic directly to find clues?
If a problem is discovered, it's just an avatar, Lis could easily escape.
Moments later, Lis received feedback from the detection magic, his brow slightly furrowed.
As he had sensed before, the entire City Lord Mansion contained no humans or undead, nor any traces of extraordinary power.
It was just an ordinary building.
Lis paused, controlling the avatar directly to cast [Fireball Technique] at a nearby window.
Bang!
The sound of the fireball explosion mixed with the shattering of glass echoed throughout the mansion, like a stone thrown into a calm lake.
But what puzzled Lis was, though the disturbance caused by Fireball Technique was significant, it elicited no reaction.
The entire mansion seemed dead, with no feedback whatsoever.
That shouldn't be the case?
Lis scratched his head, surprised by this unexpected situation.
Earlier at the Golden Coconut Tavern, when preparing to deal with Jue, Lis genuinely felt the intimidating presence of a Legend.
That definitely wasn't wrong, nor could it be an effect caused by Legendary Items.
Lis could still distinguish between these.
Exploring the mansion was a decision Lis made after careful consideration.
He was ready to trigger chaos, as he left a space mark on Taya when leaving the room, to ensure he could take Taya out of this secret realm immediately.
