I Ascend to the Divine Throne through Arcane Means -
Chapter 929 - 562: Sharing Among Girls
Lis gently placed his right hand on the illusory wall in front of him, his brow slightly furrowed.
The transparent wall before him felt like a cold and smooth plane, with an extremely hard texture.
Lis exerted force violently, but it didn't budge at all.
After a brief silence, Lis controlled his magic power to penetrate into the wall in front of him.
But just like before, the magic power he infused completely vanished, as if there was a giant abyssal maw in front of him.
Lis's avatar injected more than half of his magic power, yet the transparent wall showed no reaction, so he stopped.
Could this be the arrangement set up by the legendary mage Ihelos?
Lis rubbed his chin, carefully observing the illusory wall in front of him.
This seems to be a special hidden magical array that can absorb magic power and spell effects below its tolerance limit.
That's why Lis's previous detection spell had no feedback.
However, the effect of this hidden array is truly magical; no similar spell exists in Mr. Stephens's repertoire.
Indeed, there are many wondrous spells in the world that Lis doesn't yet understand, and he's currently glimpsing only a corner of it.
The simplest method to deal with such a hidden array is to cast an attack exceeding its tolerance limit, causing it to collapse automatically.
But Lis can't use that method right now.
It's obvious that this hidden array is likely the handiwork of the legendary mage Ihelos. To break through and defeat this array would require at least a legendary level of strength.
With Lis's current power, it's almost impossible to achieve.
Since he couldn't think of a way to open this hidden array for the time being, Lis wasn't in a hurry and started exploring the area.
After a while, Lis stood on the level ground of the City Lord's Mansion, observing the seemingly empty space, yet it was hidden by that legendary mage.
Lis conducted some investigation, roughly estimating the range of the hidden array before him.
It's roughly an area measuring fifty meters by fifty meters, and a hundred meters high.
Is this... a Mage Tower?
Lis measured the area concealed by the hidden array, a suspicion forming in his mind.
But this range... doesn't quite match the scale of a legendary mage's Mage Tower?
Lis was fairly clear about this; a legendary level Mage Tower would occupy an area three to four times that of the current one.
This isn't a random guess by Lis. The magic books have records, and several legendary level Mage Towers exist in the Azela Floating City, with which Lis is familiar.
But exceptions are not unheard of.
For example, Mr. Stephens, at the Royal Magic Academy's First Magic Workshop, officially a part of the academy's holdings, has in practice become the exclusive Mage Tower of the Judgement Flame.
It's not that Mr. Stephens lacks the ability to establish a larger Mage Tower, but it holds no meaning for him.
For someone like Stephens, who excels in space magic, expanding room areas within the Mage Tower is not troublesome.
For example, the workshop basement where Lis once undergoed special training was larger than the entire City Lord Mansion in front of him.
But Ihelos was supposed to specialize in undead and illusion realm magic, making it hard for Lis to imagine him also mastering advanced space magic.
Thus, Lis was uncertain if the entity concealed before him was indeed Ihelos's Mage Tower.
If it truly is Ihelos's Mage Tower, hidden so well, then it might very well contain an important secret of this illusion.
However...
Although Lis was eager to learn what was hidden within, he certainly had no way to unlock the hidden array in the short term.
Yet Lis's interest in the hidden array in front of him was piqued.
After all, as an arcanist, the sight of an unknown and strange spell instantly aroused his thirst for knowledge.
He glanced up at the sky; the night was deep, but lingering here was no longer suitable.
Although he wasn't too worried about his own safety, Taya was waiting for him at the inn, and it wouldn't do to return too late and cause her concern.
Moreover, the potential presence of a legendary strongman at the inn was something Lis needed to discuss with Taya, to caution her to be careful.
Lis cast one last look at the hidden array before him and turned to leave the City Lord Mansion.
Once Lis departed, the building returned to its former silence, unchanged as it had been for centuries.
...
In a room at the Golden Coconut Inn,
Taya sat by the window, idly watching the small town outside, engulfed in sleep.
She sat in a chair, her legs curled up against her chest, arms tightly wrapped around them, her delicate feet exposed to the cool night breeze.
Her cheek rested on her knees, as her blood-red hair cascaded over the back of the chair, glowing with a soft, silvery light in the moonlight.
The chair tilted slightly backward, with its rear legs grounded, and the front legs suspended, yet Taya's gentle sway on the chair felt stable.
Although Lis had left her with many delightful treats, Taya wasn't much interested at the moment.
She had the feeling that ever since Lis entered this small town, he had become somewhat secretive...
Did he discover something amiss?
Thinking this, Taya suddenly stood up, then dispiritedly sat back down.
Lis didn't tell her what he was doing, so even if she wanted to help, she wouldn't know where to start.
