Chapter 893: Chapter 889: The Past is Over
As the wound was torn open, all the space within Yang Yuexi’s body was exposed, revealing a hollow cavity. Looking down from above, one could still see her continuously beating heart.
With the opening of her wound, Yang Yuexi let out a pained moan, her pupils dilated as she watched Paint Man stuff rotten, shriveled organs into her body, one clump at a time. After he finished, the blood, now a pale red, seeped back onto the blanket surrounding her.
Paint Man stood up, looked at her and said, "Do you remember the doorman standing at the entrance of the nightclub?"
Uh... err-err...
A flash of confusion crossed Yang Yuexi’s eyes, but unable to speak, all she could muster were zombie-like groans.
Seeing her like that, Paint Man evidently knew that Yang Yuexi did not remember and shook his head, moving a chair over to sit opposite her, staring at her.
"I knew you wouldn’t remember. Think hard, once you remember, you’ll die with clarity. I won’t give you much time, just ten minutes. If you can’t recall, then... heh-heh..."
As he spoke, a twisted smile spread across Paint Man’s face, he licked the fresh blood off his fingertip, only to realize that it tasted like paint, distorting his face as he spat it out with several "ptui" sounds.
With Paint Man’s reminder, Yang Yuexi started to recall, when had she ever encountered the so-called doorman?
In the United District during the Apocalypse, there were still places for people to vent, but unlike before the Apocalypse, the clubs and other such places similar to nightclubs were no longer suitable for women to visit.
If a woman went to such a place, unless she was incredibly strong, she was essentially seeking work!
Recalling from the beginning of the Apocalypse to now, she didn’t seem to have visited such places, so what Paint Man was referring to had to be from before the Apocalypse!
But before the Apocalypse, she had been to plenty of entertainment clubs, how could she remember every doorman she encountered?
She couldn’t remember; her mind was in chaos. Perhaps what Paint Man said was deeply significant to him, but to her, it was as inconsequential as a stone or a blade of grass seen on the road of life, not something one would intentionally remember.
As time ticked by, Yang Yuexi grew increasingly desperate for the answer to why Paint Man was doing this, but in the end, she realized that time had passed incredibly quickly without her noticing.
"Two more minutes."
The voice of Paint Man startled her, and Yang Yuexi’s body trembled. She relaxed as if she had given up, perhaps she was meant to die without understanding.
Throughout it all, Paint Man had been waiting silently, not showing a hint of impatience, looking as if he was a patient with depression.
Seeing her body relax, Paint Man then stood, took a dagger with a notched blade from his chest, and approached Yang Yuexi.
"Given up? Good, then I can save some time."
Seeing the dagger in his hand, a plea appeared in Yang Yuexi’s eyes. She wasn’t begging for more time from Paint Man, she was pleading for him not to use that dagger.
This dagger had never been sharpened since Paint Man acquired it, and God knows how long it had been used; its blade was extremely blunt. It was the same dagger he had used when he performed the organ removal surgery on himself.
Sometimes, a sharp weapon isn’t such a bad thing, at least when the blade cuts through flesh and blood, you don’t feel pain, and yet this dagger, you say it’s blunt, but it can still open up your own flesh!
A sharp dagger only needs a gentle swipe to create a wound, but this dagger, when placed against your flesh, it takes a couple of rubs to actually make a cut, and the pain it brings is even more immense than that of a sharp one!
All she wanted was to die quick and easy, not to be in such agony, but the Paint Man didn’t grant her wish.
Watching the Paint Man approach step by step, the dagger in his hand seemed like the fangs of a demon gaping at her!
Her thoughts were chaotic; her brain, in its final moments, played back her life like a movie. She stared blankly ahead, her eyes reflecting the silhouette of the Paint Man.
She saw him squat down, and she thought he was about to kill her. A deep sadness flashed across her eyes, and another wave of agony was upon her, but that was fine, after pain, there would be no more suffering.
She reviewed her life at lightning speed, and at the same time, the Paint Man picked up the corner of her shirt, poured water over it to wet the fabric, and touched her head covering and then Yang Yuexi’s face, as if comparing something.
In the end, he circled an area on Yang Yuexi’s face with his hand, took the water-soaked cloth and wiped her face clean of all filth.
Through all this, Yang Yuexi didn’t feel anything until the muscles and nerves on her face detected the icy blade. She felt a pain in her face as the blunt edge of the dagger sunk into her flesh.
A tearing sensation came; the spot on her face that the Paint Man had marked now bore an extremely rough wound. The dagger was too dull to cut smoothly, so the Paint Man gripped the dagger tightly and yanked hard, the intense pain making her overcome her body’s weakness and scream a most inhumane cry.
Ah!!
This scream was identical to the one she had let out when the Paint Man was performing organ surgery on her. Listening to the scream, the Paint Man also let out a pathological laugh.
He checked the wound on Yang Yuexi’s face and noticed he had cut too much, but he didn’t care. He knew his dagger was too dull to cut exactly where he wanted, and instead of being satisfied with a less than perfect work, he preferred to watch his prey’s despair.
Meanwhile, Yang Yuexi, with the intense pain on her face, had the lifelong memories playing in her mind suddenly freeze.
Her pupils dilated in shock as she remembered everything.
The doorman!
It was him!
A memory flashed through her mind, from before the Apocalypse, her father Yang Yong was the Chief Inspector of the Public Service Department in the city, and a local businessman who often needed favors for his business used to regularly bribe Yang Yong, hoping to use his power to open back doors.
Facing the amount of money that easily reached hundreds of thousands, Yang Yong certainly wouldn’t refuse; thus, the income from the bribes made Yang Yuexi’s family live lavishly. Always leading a lady’s life and receiving higher education, she naturally looked down on those at the bottom of the social ladder.
As a result, she always seemed haughty in front of those people.
It was a very normal day when her best friend was having a birthday, and that day, Yang Yuexi brought her friends, driving a sports car to a nightclub where they had just hired a new doorman.
When their car arrived, the doorman, probably because he had just started and was unaware of many things, was too busy admiring the cool-looking sports car.
