Chapter 873: Chapter 869: Spirited Young Man
Time had unknowingly and slowly passed by; Tang Ye did not know how long it had been when he noticed the sky outside had darkened. He estimated it must have been around five or six hours, right?
Looking again at Brother Shi, the bloody hole that had been stabbed into his body had stopped bleeding, and the wound had already scabbed over. Only, too much blood had flowed; his face now looked very pale.
Dangling limply, he had been curling his body during this time, always keeping his eyes closed, trying to give his mind a bit of relief. But hanging as he was, he could never fall asleep, his eyes mostly seeing the faces of those decaying zombies.
However, he had discovered a fascinating trait about humans—their strong adaptability. At first, the ferocious and ugly zombies made people feel extremely scared, but after watching them for a while, they got used to the sight and no longer showed fear—of course, the more powerful beings were an exception, like that man.
He didn’t know where that man was, but Brother Shi was very clear that he was somewhere watching him. After much thought, he seemed to realize what that man intended to do. The reason he was being hung seemed to be to lure something out. What could it be?
"Still not here?"
Tang Ye frowned, the sky was getting darker and darker, and until now, he still hadn’t seen any sign of a smarter zombie. Occasionally, a few zombies would crawl up the crane trying to grab Brother Shi by following the hanging beam, but since the beam was almost vertical, they couldn’t climb it, and the brainless ones also gathered on the ground to form piles of bodies trying to reach Brother Shi. However, these piles eventually collapsed a few meters away from him.
In this process, many zombies died from cracking their skulls open from the fall.
Yet, they seemed relentless, attracted greatly to the flesh and blood of a Level 3 New Human.
It could even allow them to evolve!
At this moment, the water cup beside Tang Ye, which had already been cleaned, suddenly rose by itself. The muddy bottle cap of a beverage bottle seemed to be opened by an invisible hand, tossed casually aside, then the body of the bottle also began to rise slowly. The bottle tilted, and the orange beverage poured precisely into the cup.
Then, the cup flew to Tang Ye’s mouth, tilting to pour the drink into his mouth. If someone saw this scene, they wouldn’t need to be scared; they would probably scream that it was haunted on the spot!
But Tang Ye was very clear why this was happening.
He drank a sip of the beverage, smacking his lips a few times as if tasting the flavor. After a while, he pointed at the drink, and subsequently, the beverage flew into his hand. He scraped off the mud on it and looked at the packaging.
"Expired for years and you give this to me? Get lost!"
Tang Ye casually threw the drink onto the ground, the liquid spilling out. If it weren’t for the fact that he was a zombie, unable to recognize the off taste of spoiled drinks, he might have vomited it out already.
"Forget it, let’s cut that guy again. If it still doesn’t appear, then don’t wait any longer, maybe it has already left this place."
Tang Ye thought for a moment, and a tentacle stretched out behind him as his thought formed, slowly reaching towards Brother Shi. He prepared to stab a few more times, making him bleed more to attract more zombies.
If that still didn’t work, he didn’t want to continue this way; zombies hated waiting for something the most.
However, the tentacle had just stretched out of the window when it quickly retracted. Tang Ye narrowed his eyes and involuntarily leaned forward slightly. His zombie eyes could clearly see things in the darkness, and at this moment, on the diagonal street across, a strange group of zombies appeared.
"Interesting," Tang Ye murmured, a smile appearing on his face. He had finally found it!
Across the diagonal intersection, four zombies were heading this way—two nearly three meters tall Power Type Level 2 zombies, and one Level 1 Speed Type Zombie that, despite its deformed body, walked briskly. These three zombies didn’t seem unusual at first glance, but importantly, they were actually following another zombie who seemed to be about 1.6 meters tall and had a head slightly larger than a normal human.
Such a combination resembled those lively lads who used to roam the streets before the Apocalypse.
Tang Ye’s gaze was instantly drawn to the zombie walking in front. It wore only a pair of tattered shorts, which seemed to be black work pants torn into shorts for some reason, adorned with dried mud and blood.
It wore no shirt, and its thin figure, which revealed two rows of ribs, made it look almost like a good-for-nothing, its skin a light iron color and thin scales visible. More oddly, one of the Level 2 Power Type Zombies following it had two pre-Apocalypse rifles hanging around its neck.
Would a normal zombie carry two rifles? Tang Ye remembered that, when he had first turned into a zombie, he had also carried a rifle that was eventually stolen by some damn beast!
Now, seeing another zombie carrying a rifle like he did, Tang Ye immediately realized that the one walking in front wasn’t a normal zombie!
But this fellow seemed to be more imposing than Tang Ye had been at the start—it even had underlings carrying its rifles for it?
Tang Ye smirked, sat back down on his chair, and turned sideways, peering out at the strange group of zombies with one eye.
The leader, upon coming within a dozen meters of Brother Shi, bellowed excitedly, yelling at the zombie underlings following it. As it gestured, the three zombies behind also made "ga ga ga" weird noises.
Tang Ye’s eyes brightened more and more. This reaction, this behavior, was definitely a sign of intelligent zombies!
However, what was strange was that it looked like a Level 1 zombie, maybe even a normal zombie, but according to Tang Ye’s senses, this was a Level 3 zombie!
He watched as the intelligent zombie struggled to lead its three zombie underlings through the crowd of zombies toward Brother Shi. Whenever other zombies blocked its path, it had to put in a lot of effort to push them away, an action that didn’t seem characteristic of a Level 3 zombie!
"What is this thing? It’s really embarrassing for a Level 3 zombie,"
If it were any other Level 3 zombie, it could have just used brute force to break through the crowd. Why bother putting in so much effort?
Moreover, from the intelligent zombies Tang Ye had encountered before, they all seemed to have really strong mental control abilities, but in this intelligent zombie, he couldn’t see this trait shine. In fact, it seemed like it didn’t have the ability to control other zombies at all!
Apart from the three zombies following it, the other zombies didn’t bother with it at all.
"Odd, isn’t it?"
With a tinge of disappointment in his eyes, Tang Ye thought, if this intelligent zombie really had only this little ability, then it was completely unnecessary.
