I am the Zombie King of the Apocalyptic World
Chapter 426 - 423 Really Turned into a Zombie_1

Chapter 426: Chapter 423 Really Turned into a Zombie_1

The Rest is a state where a person whose body houses an anti-living substance would die under the most despairing of emotions, leading to their brain capacity being fully utilized for the first time. They will then evolve into a creature that’s not entirely human, all under the influence of the anti-living substance.

However, anyone cannot become a Rest. During the later stages of the Apocalypse, the number of known Rests can be counted on all of one’s fingers. Its occurrence among millions of people is scarce and rare.

In possession of human wisdom and considered a member of the zombies, the power a Rest holds is similar to that of the zombies. Despite these seemingly good traits, they all have one defining characteristic: they must feed on humans.

Despair fuels their resurrection after death. When revived, the mentality of a Rest cannot be described in human terms. Instead, they are zombies with human appearances and thinking patterns.

Deformed mentally by despair at the point of their creation, it’s only out of pure luck that a Rest doesn’t disdain humans. There is absolutely no room for collaboration between a Rest and humans during hardships.

In Su Sigui’s previous life, a Rest had led an anti-human organization in an attack on a survivor base, treating humans like livestock. Their actions proved to be even more brutal than those of the Zombie King.

Rests are not good people and neither is Su Sigui.

To turn into a Rest, one must die first. This suggests that Su Sigui had already died once before. As for her death, her resurrection, and the painful ordeal experienced, only she knows.

Despite now being a non-human, she became a Rest for the future of humanity.

Human strength only goes so far; even though there are Level 9 New Humans, it’s not easy to evolve into Level 9.

Among the future generations, there’s only one Level 9 New Human and about a hundred Level 8 New Humans.

She lingered at Level 8 for a whopping four years, never catching a glimpse of the threshold to Level 9. No matter how she replenished her internal energy, it always overflowed.

It was truly maddening, the position of a Level 9 New Human was something she could see but couldn’t touch. She had no faith in her ability to reach that level in the future, so she chose a radical measure and became a Rest.

Non-human as she is, strength is all she seeks.

People in the post-apocalyptic world would do anything to achieve their goals. It’s now the norm.

Su Sigui’s body began to contort, with black lines faintly appearing on her pale skin. The Zombie King sensed that something was wrong, squinted, and tightened the hand around her neck, churning out flesh in the process.

Chilling was the fact that Su Sigui, despite her neck being mangled, didn’t die. Her expression remained unchanged as the Zombie King extended his other hand, grew a sharp bone blade, and aimed for her head.

Su Sigui fought back. Her cold glare intensified, she wielded her sword, and crossed its tip with the falling blade of the Zombie King. Surprisingly, her strength had grown significantly, almost matching that of the Zombie King.

Her sword barely blocked the Zombie King’s hand, and when his other hand attacked, she straightened her body and wrapped her legs around his neck, suspending herself above the Zombie King.

Whip!

The sword held against the Zombie King’s hand maneuvered with force, scattering the blood and bits of flesh from around it. Once again, she sliced off several zombie arms with a side sweep of her sword. Her legs sank with a force, managing to bend the Zombie King’s upright body towards the ground.

"Roll!"

She swung her body and once again demonstrated a remarkable strength in her legs, flinging the Zombie King onto the ground and freeing herself. Her throat, which was squeezed to the point of rupture, quickly healed. In this state, she seemed no different from a zombie.

It was a close call. Although the Rest have the same vitality as zombies, they would still die if their brains were pierced. There are no exceptions to this.

The Zombie King stood up in defiance of physics, like a jellyfish, squinting at Su Sigui.

"You haven’t been trying your best, haha, but neither have I."

Upon saying this, the Zombie King’s skin, which was initially grey, changed to silvery white. Now looking like a silver statue poured directly out of molten silver, the dozen arms behind him swayed up and down. There was a murderous intent in Tang Ye’s eyes as he stood on the roof.

He was currently unhappy, the sensation he had been hunting for had been disrupted by Xu Tianyu. Since he couldn’t retrieve it, none of them needed to stay alive.

Using the control over the Zombie King, Tang Ye unleashed all his power and once again began to fight hand in hand.

Black lines grew on Su Sigui’s skin, emanating a chilling aura. Her speed was already high, but after becoming a Rest, she outraced Tang Ye, the Zombie King, in speed, nearly matching him in strength as well.

The two figures darted back and forth on the streets, several unfortunate zombies and buildings were blasted into pieces. Su Sigui’s speed surpassed Tang Ye’s, her sword swished through the air without missing once, precisely landing on the Zombie King’s body with each strike.

But Zombie King, whose skin had turned silver, wasn’t as easy to be dealt with. Although his strength and speed didn’t change, his defense was frighteningly high.

Before, Su Sigui could barely break through Tang Ye’s self-defense with her sword, but now it was nearly impossible to leave a mark on him.

Su Sigui’s attacks were as swift and sharp as rainfall, while the Zombie King’s attacks were wide and open. Every part of his body functioned as a weapon. Bolts of black fog swirled around him. With no ability to fly, Su Sigui was swatted away several times by his descending strikes, suffering many losses. Zombie blood pooled around them, forming a dense black river and causing the buildings to collapse in large chunks.

Unconsciously, the only blue sky left was covered by dark clouds. It didn’t rain, it didn’t thunder, the clouded sky just hung there, ominously. The city’s skyline in the distance turned gray, transforming into vague silhouettes.

One building after another collapsed, the ground was decorated with more and more craters. The sound of gunshots, the resulting ’bang’, and the deafening roars of zombies intermingled incessantly, agitating the heart.

The two shadows continued to dart back and forth. After Su Sigui sheathed her sword, her hands drew energy from the scabbard, pushing Zombie King Tang Ye back. Her scabbard had grown hot, and the hand holding it was already blistered.

Tang Ye, who had been pushed back, suddenly turned and shot towards Su Sigui like a bolt of lightning. Despite her quick reflexes, she was still struck and was sent flying a hundred meters away, her exoskeletal armor and her sword had been warped and several notches marred the blade edge.

The Zombie King rushed again, this time grabbing a load-bearing column of a high-rise building and using his strength tore the building apart. Amidst the falling rubble, he raised his hand, an immense killing intent directed towards Su Sigui.

Her black robe and white hair fluttered in the still air. As Su Sigui broke through the ruins and stood up once again, the expression on the Zombie King’s face darkened.

"She really has become a zombie!"

Fighting Su Sigui, now a Rest, felt eerily similar to fighting a zombie of the same level. Their heads remain their only weak point, and quite predictably, it’s an area she strongly protects. Tang Ye had tried and failed several times, while his own head has been struck multiple times.

Without breaking their defense, there is no killing them. And so, it goes on as neither of them can withhold the other.

Muttering this, the Zombie King, Tang Ye, waved his hand.

Groan!

A huge creature burst out from the ground...
