Chapter 40: Chapter 40: Familiar Zombies, Crisis Returns _1
Are you full yet?
Tang Ye used his thumbnail to engrave a line of characters on the table.
"Yes, we’re full, Little Mister, I’ll clean this up now!"
Tang Ye nodded, casting a puzzled glance at the half bag of food that still remained on the table.
"Really? Just ate this little?" Tang Ye thought to himself but didn’t vocalize it, watching Ning Yu’er pick up the bag and leave the room, heading down to the first floor.
He followed her, and they headed to their sleeping quarters.
"Going to sleep? Let me warm the bed for you, Little Mister
Eh? Tang Ye was taken aback, followed by an excitement. Warm the bed?
Noticing Tang Ye’s quizzical look, Ning Yu’er blushingly realized that she might have misspoken. She quickly covered her face with the blanket as she lay down on the bed.
Oh hehe ~
Tang Ye let out a grating laugh. He, who enjoyed funny skits before the Apocalypse, might be a simple and straightforward man, but he also enjoyed certain things that most men of the otaku persuasion did, like anime, and was especially sensitive to the term "warming the bed".
He shook his head, discarding the random thoughts in his head, and lies on the large bed made up of four smaller ones.
His massive body occupied half of it, but it did not interfere with Ning Yu’er’s sleep. Like this, amidst Ning Yu’er’s pleasant body scent, Tang Ye drifted off to sleep.
In the middle of the night, Ning Yu’er peeked her head from under the blanket. Quietly, she pulled a layer of blanket to cover Tang Ye, who was not covered at all, then cuddled up to his muscular arm and went back to sleep.
What she didn’t know was that the dark purple blood lines on Tang Ye’s skin under his clothes were slowly fading, leaving only a pale complexion. And that, Tang Ye, who would usually wake up at the slightest touch, did not stir despite her clutching his arm.
The next morning
Tang Ye woke up surprisingly without any fuss. With a puzzled look on his face, he sat up in bed and surveyed his surroundings.
He seemed to have woken up naturally for once. Tang Ye glanced at the blanket covering him and at Ning Yu’er, who was still clutching his arm tightly. He gently pushed her aside and withdrew his arm, causing her to stir awake.
"Little Mister, is something wrong?"
She squinted at Tang Ye, rubbing her sleepy eyes, and slowly got up from the bed.
Tang Ye shook his head. This night’s sleep had been weird. He hadn’t felt anything when going to sleep, and he didn’t feel like napping more upon waking. However, he now felt like going back to sleep for a while.
Standing up quickly, he shook off the drowsy feeling.
Ning Yu’er had left the half-eaten bag of food on a cabinet. Tang Ye looked at the half bag of food, thinking to himself that it wouldn’t be able to sustain them much longer.
Never mind, let’s go out and get more now!
After glancing at Ning Yu’er, Tang Ye left the dormitory.
"Leaving as soon as you wake up?" Ning Yu’er asked.
Tang Ye nodded, pointing at the half bag of food.
"Are you going to look for more food? Can I go with you, or... maybe don’t go. We still have plenty..." Ning Yu’er said pitifully.
Tang Ye shook his head, rejecting her, and headed outside. Ning Yu’er, left behind, huffed at his retreating figure, as though Tang Ye had disregarded her after their night together.
Eh ~
Leaving the building, Tang Ye sprinted towards the supermarket where he had previously found supplies, disappearing through the school gates like a shadow.
Shh ~
"What the hell was that?" Chu Yupeng muttered, trying to calm his fright.
"Brother Peng, he’s gone. Should we go?" a young boy stuttered.
"Let’s go. Try your best to avoid the zombies! Don’t alert them, whoever leads them here will be fed to the zombies by me!"
"Yes, yes, yes!" The group of more than ten men and women behind replied in unison in hushed voices.
Under the leadership of Chu Yupeng, they advanced towards the girls’ dormitory. The bespectacled young boy among them seemed to be mulling over something.
"Why does that evolved zombie seem so familiar? Could it be..."
His face fell, a feeling of unease surfacing in his heart. But seeing the group moving forward, he decided to follow and approached Chu Yupeng.
"Brother Peng, what if that guy from yesterday really killed the big evolved zombie? What should we do?"
"What are you blabbering? We’re not afraid of him! How powerful can one person be? If you’re not willing to go, piss off! You’ll have nothing to eat when you come back!"
The bespectacled young man sighed, frustrated. He knew that Chu Yupeng was currently not in any state to heed his words.
The group reached the entrance of the girls’ dormitory, nervously checking their surroundings for zombies. With no zombies in sight, everyone let out a sigh of relief.
Chu Yupeng excitedly approached the door of the dormitory building, his hand trembling as he prepared to knock on the door, while everyone behind him stood vigilantly with their weapons.
Thinking of all the food that could possibly be inside, Chu Yupeng felt exhilarated.
Knock Knock Knock!
Ning Yu’er suddenly heard a knock, her face lighting up as she thought Tang Ye had returned. However, she quickly collected herself.
"Wait a minute, Little Mister wouldn’t knock on the door while entering, would he?"
Confused, Ning Yu’er asked aloud, "Who’s... outside?"
Chu Yupeng composed himself, saying: "It’s us, fellow students. We’re out of food. Do you have anything to eat? Could you spare us some?"
Ning Yu’er’s face lit up at Chu Yupeng’s words. Seeing living people, who used to be her classmates before the Apocalypse, she felt a sense of joy in her heart.
She saw no harm and opened the door. The door was never locked; one could simply turn the doorknob to open it.
Upon opening the door, she saw Chu Yupeng and his group of about a dozen people. Chu Yupeng, upon seeing Ning Yu’er, was a bit taken aback. The past few days in the post-apocalyptic world had worn them out. Each of them had lost a considerable amount of weight, including Chu Yupeng, despite his regular food intake.
Due to their limited energy, none of them paid attention to cleanliness. They’ve been wearing the same clothes since the post-apocalyptic outbreak, which were now filthy and ragged.
Seeing Ning Yu’er, looking as if nothing had changed since the Apocalypse, wearing clean clothes and a healthy complexion, they couldn’t help but feel a sense of envy.
Why her?
Chu Yupeng’s lecherous gaze swept across Ning Yu’er’s face. She used to be the campus belle. Before the Apocalypse, he didn’t even have the right to talk to her. But now? He could do whatever he pleased!
His eyes greedily inspected every inch of Ning Yu’er’s body, his expression becoming more and more malicious. Ning Yu’er saw this and felt a sudden pang of fear, knowing that something terrible was about to happen. She wanted to close the door, but it was already too late.
"Ha ha, it turns out to be Ning, the campus belle. Hehe, you are the woman of my dreams. I’ve finally met you! I’ve missed you so much!" Chu Yupeng laughed brazenly.
He reached out to grab her, but she dodged.
"Don’t, please... What do you want? I’ll give it to you! Please..."
"We want food. Hehe, give us food and we won’t hurt you! Ha ha ha!"
