Chapter 381: Chapter 378: Familiar Things_1

With the sound of the plant’s fibers snapping, the mobile rootstock plant was torn in half by Ah Fu. Oddly, its roots had separated from the upper half of its body, but that upper half still squirmed.

The large and small "mouths" tried to bite Tang Ye continuously. Although unsure of the evolution level of this strange red rootstock plant, each time it bit him and its teeth failed to come close to breaking through his skin, Tang Ye knew categorically that it must be above Level 3!

Ah Fu tore the lower half of the creature’s body into several pieces, fiercely tossing it aside before turning its attention to the other half still in Tang Ye’s grasp, roaring as if it had been wronged greatly.

Tang Ye gave the slightly silly creature a bemused look, not bothering with it as he passed the half body to Ah Fu. The creature’s delight at receiving it gave way to a violent shattering of the pieces, bringing everything to stillness.

Just as Tang Ye was about to turn and leave with Ah Fu, the creature growled at him.

Confused, Tang Ye turned around only to see Ah Fu prying apart the "skull" of the plant, retrieving a jade-green, crystal-like object.

Tang Ye picked it up, examining the object and looking at the rootstock plant’s remains.

"Could this be an Evolution Crystal Core?"

"A jade-green Evolution Crystal Core?"

Tang Ye couldn’t be sure. He had never encountered such a Crystal Core before.

"If this is a plant that’s evolved and contains an Evolution Crystal Core, then that would mean..."

As if realizing something, Tang Ye’s eyes brightened as he looked towards the enormous tree that seemed to be bridging the gap between heaven and earth.

Swallowing the Crystal Core whole, Tang Ye experienced a surge of energy equivalent to a Level 3 evolution Crystal Core. He hurriedly moved towards the massive tree with Ah Fu, stopping at the large hollow he had dug out earlier.

Digging with his hands, a mix of excitement and frustration appeared on Tang Ye’s face. Excited at the prospect that the tree was an evolved plant and would thus contain an Evolution Crystal Core, yet frustrated because he was unable to fully penetrate the massive tree’s bark.

"Let’s give it a try..."

With a glint of hope in his eyes, Tang Ye’s body split open, turning into several fleshy petals and tentacles.

After flailing them in the air for a while, Tang Ye stepped back to give the tree some space before suddenly thrusting his tentacles and flesh flaps towards the tree trunk.

A series of squelches and crunching sounds resounded in the air!!.....!

Seventy percent of his body had been inserted into the tree. Only when he found it impossible to go any deeper, did Tang Ye stop.

Taking a deep breath, Tang Ye’s expressions shifted between anticipation and complexity. If he couldn’t get this particular tree, then he would be in a state of despair. The unknown dread lurking somewhere near them filled him with a sense of impending crisis!

As soon as Tang Ye’s fleshy petals and tentacles started to generate a suction force, his arm began to contort under the pull.

He tried to drain the life force from the enormous tree!

However, his next actions only led to disappointment. Practically within four or five seconds, Tang Ye retracted his tentacles and flesh petal in dismay. He was unable to extract the life force from the tree which seemed as inanimate as a corpse.

Leading Ah Fu deeper into the boundless forest, he randomly chose a tree to attach his tentacles to. Just like the giant tree, there was no life force available for Tang Ye to drain.

He wondered, "Could it be that only evolved plants possess life force that can be drained?"

He hadn’t tried using his blood-sucking technique on the mobile red rootstock plant earlier, and hence didn’t know if all evolved plants could be drained in such a manner. Or perhaps the massive tree wasn’t an evolved plant?

But that couldn’t be right. It was so large; who would believe it was naturally grown?

Had such a huge tree existed before the Apocalypse, wouldn’t it have been swarmed with people coming to look at it every day?

Moreover, such a tree would surely require tens of thousands of years to grow naturally.

But to confirm whether only evolved plants could be drained, Tang Ye would have to find another evolved plant to try again.

He and Ah Fu continued their search in the forest, reaching out to those peculiar-looking grasses and flowers they came across, trying to see if he could drain their life force, but the result was always the same, he couldn’t drain them!

It seemed as though all plants didn’t possess life force Tang Ye could drain.

There was an inkling of an answer in Tang Ye’s mind, but he wasn’t certain. Perhaps all the plants he came across were naturally grown?

Continuing their search, it wasn’t until on the third day that Ah Fu accidentally knocked a tree while playing, revealing the Evolution Crystal Core within its root. It looked exactly like the jade-green one they had seen before!

Tang Ye was ecstatic at that moment. Without a second thought, he grabbed the Evolution Crystal Core and swallowed it. This crystal was only at Level 1, but it didn’t stop him from feeling exhilarated!

Following Ah Fu’s method, he began to uproot the trees, believing that every tree held an Evolution Crystal Core. However, after destroying around 40 to 50 trees, he could only find five Crystal Cores!

Of which, four were Level 1 Crystal Cores while there was only one Level 2 Crystal Core.

And the most frustrating part was, Tang Ye couldn’t differentiate which tree contained a Crystal Core. There could be two trees, one large and one small. The larger one might contain the Crystal Core, but the smaller one might not, or vice versa.

Even a sapling could possibly hide an Evolution Crystal Core beneath it!

Given these circumstances, Tang Ye gave up on his tree-wrecking endeavor as it was not efficient or yielding enough rewards. Yet, he had rampaged around, excitedly thinking every tree had an Evolution Crystal Core hidden underneath it!

This was a classic case of the reality not living up to the dream!

Another few days passed and Tang Ye felt a sudden sense of tranquility in his heart. He had been here for almost nine days now, but he had not lost his sanity. Even though the place gave off an eerie vibe at night, the scenery was beautiful during the day.

Basking in the ambiance of nature, Tang Ye found his mood subtly improving.

The initial anxiety was now gone. However, he had not given up on finding a way out.

At noon, Tang Ye and Ah Fu casually chose a direction and began their trek, hoping to stumble upon some luck and a way out.

During the last few days, the hidden entity had observed him thrice, each observation lasting for a very short while. Tang Ye didn’t pay heed to the hidden entity, wondering what it was, or how it was observing him.

They twisted and turned their way through clusters of grass. While Tang Ye held a piece of raw tiger meat in one hand, gnawing as they walked.

They hadn’t explored this area yet, but the direction was right, leading towards the slopes ahead.

Around half an hour later, Tang Ye spotted something familiar. It was the same red rootstock plant that they had encountered a few days ago!
