Chapter 380: Chapter 377 Is this a plant?_1
But if it’s an Evolution Crystal, why is Ah Fu, who is a Level 5 zombie like me, so fixated on me?
To be honest, Tang Ye was really scared. Now he realized it’s not fear itself that’s terrifying, but it’s the unknown!
If he knew what exactly this entity was, even if it had extraordinary powers, he wouldn’t be scared at all. It was the unknown that drove him to endlessly guess.
One moment he thought it was a ghost, then a zombie sharing his human mentality, the next moment some formidable evolved human toying with him.
Mostly he thought about ghosts. The nights here were creepy and gave off an entirely different vibe from Lin City. If the nights in Lin City induced a kind of desolate horror unique to the post-apocalyptic world, the nights here felt like you were living in a horror movie, filled with impending ghost encounters, giving him chills.
He finally understood why some survivors would rather starve than venture out for supplies. If he were human, he wouldn’t dare to go out either. Humans fear the ugly zombies. Being a zombie himself, the human threat is useless against him, hence he isn’t scared.
After becoming a zombie, his psychology had changed and was dominated by rage. You could say fear was irrelevant, but Tang Ye, largely due to human habits from his past, was constantly guessing and questioning.
"This is the spot."
Suppressing his thoughts, Tang Ye muttered to himself, and pulled up the hanging python to share this late-night snack with Ah Fu.
After they had consumed the python, Tang Ye patted his stomach. He hadn’t evolved at all. It was a bit disappointing. If he had evolved to Level 6 at this point, he would have less fear of that unknown entity.
Having kept vigil all night, Ah Fu finally woke Tang Ye up when the sun rose and drove away the darkness.
The two zombies jumped off the giant tree and continued their search for a way out. Along the journey, that unknown entity observed him several times, as if it was checking whether Tang Ye had successfully fled.
Each time he felt the sensation of being observed, he was on the verge of losing his composure. He wished he could find the hidden entity, beat it severely, then torture it mercilessly until it died!
It was too annoying; Tang Ye felt like a lab rat trapped in an artificial ecosystem, with someone checking on him periodically.
The feeling was extremely vexing, but he could find no way to break free from it.
After a few attempts to leave this dreadful place, Tang Ye eventually gave up trying to find an escape route, and instead started hunting various mutant creatures to acquire their Evolution Crystal Cores, hoping that many small advancements might amount to a significant evolution into a Level 6 zombie.
By the third day, Tang Ye had collected some Evolution Crystal Cores, mostly from Level 1 and 2 mutants. Consuming these crystal cores didn’t trigger any evident changes, and Tang Ye was thinking of giving up. Level 5 to Level 6 required a colossal amount of energy, which could only be supplied by Level 4 Evolution Crystal Cores or Evolution Crystals.
The energy supplied by lower-level cores and crystals was negligible. Level 1 crystals and cores were particularly miserable. It felt as though he hadn’t eaten anything after consuming these. So, Tang Ye spared the Level 1 mutants and focused on the troublemaking Level 2 and above mutants.
Ah Fu’s intelligence had significantly improved after evolving to Level 5. It could now operate at the intelligence level of a 3-year-old child. Its behavior was quite playful, and wherever Tang Ye went, it followed. Yet, whenever it encountered some peculiar mutant plants, it ended up creating a mess.
Occasionally, it would engage in baffling activities like digging the soil, pulling out trees, and leaf picking.
Hisss~!
Crack!
In a certain region, Tang Ye knocked open a mutant creature’s skull, pulled out a Level 2 Evolution Crystal Core, and immediately threw it into his mouth. For a moment, he felt a minuscule increase in energy, and he let out a wry laugh.
Ah Fu, who was originally behind him, suddenly jogged over to a nearby peculiar red plant, captivated by it.
He had no idea what type of plant it was, but looking at the exterior, it seemed to be a tuberous plant. Upon growing to a certain height, its stem branched out into several roots. Each root ended in a flat head, with one head as large as a car door and five smaller ones, each slightly bigger than a human head.
The soil where the plant was rooted was littered with various animal bones. One glance at this bizarre plant was enough to tell that it was dangerous. Tang Ye was too occupied to notice Ah Fu’s actions and didn’t pay it much mind.
To maintain flexibility, Ah Fu shrunk its figure down to seven meters high. Unlike Tang Ye, its size came with many limitations; the smallest it could go was this height. The odd red tuberous plant was just over three meters high, appearing like a not-so-blossomed rapeseed flower in front of Ah Fu.
With a "pitter-patter," Ah Fu kicked away the pile of bones underneath it, bent down, and stared at this bizarre plant with its big, curious tiger eyes.
Ah Fu’s big hands clenched and unclenched repeatedly, looking quite restless. The peculiar plant seemed to vibrate subtly under Ah Fu’s gaze. As it sensed the strange changes, Ah Fu’s eyes shone with curiosity. Just as it was about to reach out and touch the plant, without even making contact, the five smaller heads of the plant lunged forward, forming a mouth and biting hard on Ah Fu’s waist, leaving behind several rows of bite marks!
Roar!
Ah Fu went berserk, roaring furiously. Tang Ye heard the commotion and turned to look, only to see Ah Fu raising its hand.
He was still not certain about what was happening, when he saw the red tuberous plant in front of Ah Fu shake violently. The soil where it was rooted started to loosen, and in an instant, the plant’s roots emerged, and it started moving!
Yes, it moved. The plant’s roots were acting like feet. Was it running?
Ah Fu was taken aback for a moment, but it soon bounded after it. With the enhanced strength and speed it had gained after evolving to its current stage, it sprinted after the tuberous red plant.
Seeing this, the plant scrambled to turn and retreat. However, as soon as it turned around, its body was firmly seized by a powerful hand.
Tang Ye effortlessly controlled the plant’s squirming body and squinted at it in curious observation.
"Is this fucking thing a plant?"
At that moment, Tang Ye thought to himself.
Whose plant runs on its own?
Before he could observe any further, Ah Fu ran over, caught hold of the plant’s lower half, and yanked it hard!
Shriek!
